  1. Thanks guys! Forgot to mention the rigger lures, small spoons: One was hammered silver proeye spoon which I airbrushed to copy a silver streak black fin tuna(can't seem to find this pattern in small sizes). The other which took the bow was a small scorpion style spoon in Christmas tree(green/yellow/red)
  2. Same thing happened to me a few weeks back, same rigger too. That bolt that holds the handle on comes loose often. Luckily I had just ordered new Big Jon electrics. There's a few places online that sell the parts. I'll probably be ordering a new handle from fish 307 or elsewhere so I can have both of the lake masters as backup. You can probably get what you need quick if you are willing to pay a tad more for shipping. Good luck!
  3. Went to visit my parents out in Skaneatles and took my fathers little boat out to do some trolling. We hit the water about 6 am and we're off at 1030. Boat traffic was light, mainly fisher folks, both bass and trollers. Ran two riggers and two leadcores. Riggers parked at 45 and 60 and the cores out 5 and 10 colors. Didn't take a temp reading as we were marking fish and getting hits right out of the gate. Trolling 120-200 fow produced 4 lakers and one 25" bow. Bow hit on the 45 rigger and the lakers were mixed between the two. All lakers released well but the bow went to the box after an unsuccessful release attempt. We reeled her in quick, snapped one quick photo and tried to revive but no dice. Maybe because the bows seem to come up quick and fight hard in the warmer water while the lakers were staying deep until the very end? Either way My parents ate well that evening, I unfortunately had to head back east and couldn't partake. 10 color took 2 hits which came unbuttoned, nothing on the 5. Lost another 4 fish between the riggers. All in all a good morning. Since my move to Albany I miss this lake and of course my fishing buddy. The rainbows, when you can get them, are just gorgeous (and tasty). Maybe I'll try to get out again before he stores his boat and I have to trailer mine! Tight lines..
  4. Rusty- you are correct, this weekend is the boat show so best bet is to steer clear of skinny! I made the mistake of trying to launch one wekend during it, never will I again. Alec - great info! I never really though of the effects of wind on the FL like I do lake O. All this talk of a little pink on the spoons has me rethinking some on my color schemes, or at least investing in some pink prisim tape.
  5. Thanks for the help/tips. Unfortunately I've recently moved to the Albany area so once I find a house out here the boat will reside with me and my finger lakes trolling will be limited to a few trips a year. I'm pretty sure all my favorite spoons will work well here in the dacks, on LG and Sacandaga!
  6. True there are a few places online but it seems harder and harder to get them in the 2.5" size and the basic colors. Maybe I'm just not looking in the right places. The old silver with fish hologram always seemed to be the best. I've just been buying tape nowadays and doctoring up my own.
  7. Very cool Rusty! For some reason the Atlantics in skinny have always eluded me so congrats on that. Needlefish are often a go to for me at skinny as well but even those are getting harder to find in the stores. All the good spoons are seeming to disappear.
  8. No clue what really would cause the differences in the two lakes but maybe something to do with springs?? I think the springs in skinny are ALOT deeper but I may be wrong. I was surprised by the temps as well, never took a second reading , just kept fishing! Good job on the laker, that's a beast. Here are a few from yesterday. (I'll add a note here in case folks get worried- we rarely use those grips on soft mouth fish and only needed them on that laker. We have found them useful when reviving fish that aren't quite ready though. They help hold on to the fish when the boats still in motion and not slip out of your hands)
  9. Fished Skinny w my father this morning south of 5 mile. Trolled spoons on riggers, dipseys and a 10 color core. Went 3 for 5. Riggers around 60 took all 3. Core only took one hit and a drop. One decent laker, one average laker and a pretty bow. All swam away to fight another day. #21 sutton took the most hits. All the action seemed to be over by 9/930 and the screen dried up too. Water temps per the fishhawk td: Fow-Temp 10-71.3 20-71.3 30-71.0 40-68.8 45-64.4 50-55.3 55-51.6 60-49.2 65-47.9 70-46.8 80-46.2 Will try and post a pic when they come off camera. Tight lines all.
  10. Yeah sometimes "bigger lure bigger fish" works but I have never had that experience on skinny. (Wish I would have though!). Never had a fish on a spoon bigger than maybe 3" out there. Did get a few on bigger stickbaits though. I'll probably be out there this Saturday morning if the weather holds. I'll be scanning the airwaves so if anyone's out give a shout to the LooseEye!
  11. Good to hear & Great job! I may be headed to visit my parents in Marcellus this weekend and give it a go myself. If you don't mind me asking what size spoon do you most often use? Iv always been partial to scorpions and sutton 61s in Skan but occasionally go bigger with no luck. If you don't want to post specifics I totally understand. LooseEye
  12. I just asked my father for more details on how he did Saturday. Said his biggest laker came 60 down over 250fow.
  13. Troller, you get salmon? Regrettably I have never gotten one out of Skan and have started to think they aren't there! (Or at least in any numbers) I saw a pic from a guy thinking he had gotten one but it was pretty clearly just a big bow and I didn't have the heart to say anything and be "that guy".
  14. This one made the paper a few years ago. http://blog.syracuse.com/outdoors/2011/12/weedsport_man_lands_lunker_lak.html It seems I catch a ton more 15-17" ers out of there more than anything else.
  15. Both myself and father have been out. I fished a few weeks ago I got a nice bow and a few lakers on flutter spoons. My father went this weekend and had some fun in the morning fishing for lakers down deep. It seems like this lake shuts off at 1030am. As for thermocline, no clue. My fishhawk unit is waiting on replacement. Sorry I can't be of too much help but I'd say fish it early and let us know how you do! Good luck.
  16. Ditto Pete. Got blown off the lake before I hit 60Fow out of the oak.
  17. Ill have to give them a try out there. Thanks guys. Anyone ever use them on Skaneateles?
  18. So being a bit new to the flasher fly game and seeing how many people use them on the finger lakes I have a question on fly size. The standard atomics or g-flys seem a bit large for lots of the FL fish, does anyone use scaled down versions or do the big flies seem to work just as well as they do on Ontario? Anyone ever make there own smaller patterns with success?
  19. That Guy is a dick, he'll get his eventually. People like that ruin the sport and I can't say I'd blame anyone for plastering his name all over these boards if they felt the need to. I havnt had any real bad experiences fishing in the pack yet but being a smaller boat I do feel that the bigger guys try and muscle you around. The rules of right of way definitely don't apply to trolling out there. Lol I try and stay to the outside of the pack more often than not.
  20. Nice thanks! I fish a lot of suttons on the FLs but with all the talk about his spoons on this site Ill have to try some out!
  21. Great report and nice browns! What size KOS do you topically run, fingerling or smolt If you don't mind me asking? I need to order some spoons! Haha
  22. Do you still need a roller tip with stainless as you do with copper and do you back it as you would leadcore?
  23. Thanks Kooter! Still have a lot to learn about lake O, it's quite a bit different than my home waters of Skaneateles and Otisco but I think I'm getting the hang of it! Looking forward to this weekend! Cheers
