Here’s a story we all know too well being hunters especially bow, yesterday behind my house I made it out late in the day actually the first time behind the house this year .. as I stalked out through the thick stuff I saw a big dead buck .. heart breaking, been there ,, never found a hole so I assumed it was a car kill .. because it was literally 100 yards behind the homes . After dark I went back in to grab his head after I got a road kill tag from a deputy. When I got him rolled over I started looking for a hole, found one ,, fixed broad head right shoulder forward ... after I got home I started calling local land owners I know well , asking if any one hit a good one? Well I found a younger guy that hunted a half mile east of me , I hooked up with the guy , his best friend that’s hunts with him , told me what side he hit the deer on ,on November 1st, this kid was hurting since then after loosing this beautiful buck ..well we surprised him , his buddy told him they were coming over to my place to ask permission to hunt , but he was overwhelmed when I told him I found his buck . Watching a grown man break down in tears was more rewarding than I can even say..I have a video of us surprising him with his first Pope and Young buck I wish I could load it up here to show you guys .. this is what it means to us all the time preparation,hrs in the woods..GOODLUCK to all through the rest of the season.

Brought my daughter to Southern Ohio Outfitters for a youth hunt.  She was able to score first thing this morning on a nice 10pt!

Anyone follow the hunting public? See that buck he spot and stalked? Making me feel quite pathetic haha

BTW the number one target for me is a 6pt that looks like and oil drum with stilts. 

This seems so odd to me, because NY residents seem to have a good grasp on this and take quite a few does. Yet, there are so so many female deer around. Maybe just too many people passing on the large matriarchs?

Congrats everyone! Some awesome deer! I personally saw over 35 doe in a day an a half. Bunch of spikes, a 6 and young 8. Possible shooter out of range. Thinking too many doe which is why there have been very little buck movement on the property since does started popping. Got a solution for that though.

I almost got killed and my front door got smashed forward in Irondequoit this morning. 
 
I had just put my coffee cup in my bag, ready to hit the woods, standing the front side of the truck when a car slammed into my open door just inches from me and smoked my door against the hinges forward. He played chicken with a car going in the other direction and didn’t account for the open door and pedestrian on the other side of the equation. 
 
I’m fine and the truck door is shot, but I am more mad about not being able to hunt this morning. Didn’t give the guy the business either, I never get too mad at people when it’s pretty obvious how bad they messed up. 
 
Kinda gets you thinking about how life can change at any moment, this morning I was about 5 inches from being dead or severely injured. So, I’m not either of those and that’s the bright side I guess.
 
 

Good question! I haven't seen anything over 1.5 yr old since the 4th. Two mature bucks the 3rd, one the forth and crap since. Gonna dig right into the bedding for the next few days. Why not at this point.

Off since Sunday, hunted every day and haven’t seen much. This buck came running through at seven and hung up north of me. I grunted and can called at him and he looped around back behind me. I could hear him grunting so I kept grunting back. He came quartering towards me at thirty and I drew back.
I stopped him but didn’t have a shot. He moved forward and I stopped him again.
Sharp quartering away angle, aimed just ahead of his hip. Quick shot.
Let him sit an hour and went to look.
Not a ton of blood at first but found two thirds of the shaft and tip and a little further up the rest of the shaft and fletching. They looked great and shortly thereafter we found the deer.
Certainly not a giant but I’m pumped to get him. Have worked hard the last six days and am looking forward to a couple days off before heading back to work.

Just had a doe run by with her tail up. She stopped, looked back and ran off. I figured buck, coyote or trespasser. Might have shot any of the three but fifteen minutes later haven’t seen a thing.

Hunted from sun up until 2:30 when I had to leave for other obligations. Had chasing around me most of the morning. All young bucks chasing yearling does. No mature does to be found all morning as opposed to Sunday when they were everywhere. I saw one mature doe in a dead run after the rain started but nothing trailing her. Had a 100" 8 come through around noon but no big guys. I agree the lockdown is on for now. I think I am out of the woods until Saturday unfortunately. Saw around 30 deer today within 100 yrds. Most in bow range including two shooters. I let a 9 walk after seeing a huge 10 walking right at me. Fun day.
