  1. My early bow season’s over. Hunted pretty hard and missed a good one last Wednesday afternoon. 25 yards broadside and I rushed my shot. Horrible. Deer unhurt but can’t say the same for my ego. Oh well, not the first time.
Saw a couple very good deer but nothing else in range.
Had a great time. Saw some cool stuff and enjoyed my time on stand. Can’t say I’m not disappointed but to a larger degree blessed to have had the opportunity.
Key to life is things to look forward to.

  2. Starting to think they’re locked down. Haven’t seen a buck since Monday afternoon and I’ve had plenty of does around.

Saw that for past week and a half. Moved right into the middle of bedding last weekend. That's where the most action all weekend was. Saw some short bursts of chasing and lots of unharassed doe. Gonna keep hunting with a bow as the property gets little pressure.

  3. So its been awhile since i posted however i got oit for a quick hunt behind my house saturday before last and saw the first chasing i saw of the year by a small buck chasing 2 does up the hill by me and then a bit later i saw the 9 point coming dirrectly at my stand across  the field. He made it to about 50 yards and then a doe that had been near me walked into the field and he chased her into the swamp.

However this past saturday 11-11 even though my morning went rough do to dropping my release out of my climber at like 8am and having to climb down.. it quickly went back uphill agia. When my dad texted me saying he just hit the biggest buck of his life. I drove to the patch of STATE LAND he was hunting and walked to his stand. We jumped the buck shortly after (we had gave it plenty of time and he thought he had heart shot) we gave it awhile longer and i had him circle to the other end of creek bottom buck was headed up. Well to make a long story shorter i jumped the buck again and it circled out of the creek and wasnt going well at all and stopped just outta my sight. I couldnt get ahold of my dad so i crept up the hill and was awestruck to see the buck 40 yards infront of me fending 3 coyotes off him with his antlers! They necer knew i was there and he chased yotes away then ran another 40 yards and stopped. I decided togo back to my dad and go to truck for my bow. We got back on track because it was one of those few tracks where it was better to track him down and get anothet arrow in him. Well we did just that a short while later and put the buck on the ground. His shot had hit just maybe 2 inches low and busted a front leg. We (he) got lucky but it was a situation where we worked well as a team and got it done. We had a hell of a time trying to drag him out from a mile back in the state land and it was getting dark so we gutted him and drug him away from the pile, stashed him and covered him with debris to keep coyotes away and came back with the game cart in the morning. Very nice to have for big old 4.5 year old bucks

  4. Hey guys, i don't mean to clutter the forum with non-hunting posts, but i wanted to follow up with an update. A lot of you were aware of my newborn son needing major surgery after birth at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. He was born Monday morning, and went into surgery this morning st 9:45. Surgery lasted about 3 hours and was extremely successful (even more so than the doctors and surgeons thought possible). Just wanted to thank everyone that sent prayers and well wishes our way, it was very much appreciated! Our son Lincoln is back in the NICU where he will remain over the next few weeks for recovery.

Thanks again, and congratulations to everyone that has harvested something so far this season. Now I've got a lot of reading to get caught up on the thread!!

  5. Enjoy reading all of your guys reports and seeing the pics. Down here in DE and SEPA been bow hunting a couple nights a week the last few weeks. Seeing tons of doe and harvested one about 3 weeks ago, but prior to today I had only seen one buck on stand all season so far.

Today left work at noon and was in stand by 130. Pouring rain, but much colder than its been. Did some blind grunting after being in stand for 5 minutes and had this guy come in on a string. 10 yard shot and he only went 10 yards where he stopped and fell over. Pretty decent 6 point (tiny brow tines, not the best pic). But he's got some good mass so I'm happy with him. Tagged out my buck tag for PA. Still have two more buck tags in DE to chase.

Good luck to you guys the rest of the season!

  7. Hunted with Gatorny and his buddy Fred this morning and shot the biggest buck I have ever shot this morning. Not a monster by any means but a decent buck. I was taking a leak in my bottle and when I looked up, a doe came busting out of the corn. I quick finished up and noticed a big buck coming behind her. Seconds later a second buck appeared. After some chasing and no good opportunities to shoot the bigger buck, I took the other buck. On the initial hit, I hit a little further back than I would have liked. He ran off and ended up bedding down right next Keith in his stand. To make a long story short, the buck ended up going off the property and across a raging creek. He was bedded down in the cattails. We backed out, drove around and got permission from the land owner to retrieve the buck. Thanks again Gator for the opportunity to let me shot a buck on your land. Hopefully you will be rewarded with the 9 point that was with this buck!

  8. November 3 pm
    51 degrees
    NW wind 5-15
    Partly cloudy
    Full moon rising at dusk

Very uneventful day on stand this morning. NW put me in a fresh stand this afternoon. The lack of action had me question my choice in stands. Purely out of boredom... I did an aggressive rattling sequence followed by some mature grunts. Then I sat back and waited. Half hour later I did another aggressive rattling sequence but it was interrupted by a shadow in thicket to my left. I began to do some mature grunting with no response. I gave it a couple minutes... And started again with the grunting and just like that a small 8 pt appears. He begins to seek out the ruckus, nose to the ground, and ends up directly under the stand. He under there for a couple minutes when something grabs his attention. I'm looking and looking and out behind a tree pops a buck. 30 yards headed right at me. No doubt a shooter. Bow is in hand. If he goes to my left it's gonna be a chip shot. If he goes right i probably won't even be able to get a shot. He goes to my right and passes by me within 15 yards. I just can't turn all the way right to get a shot without standing and turning 90 degrees. Unbelievable. Cool experience I guess. I pulled the card from the camera so here's some pics. He's unique. He's a unicorn.

  9. Lots of action this morning. No shooters though. Thought I put a chip shot broadside shot through both lungs on a doe. Not so much. Bright blood that didn't start for 30 yrds. Followed her for over 400 yrds, after letting her lie for over an hr. And she didn't lay down one time. Think I hit no mans land. Lost blood about 4 times and last time we found it she was headed up hill so we called it. Feel ****ty. Would rather clean miss.
