  1. The seasons need to change. It would be nice to go a little later in the north and get a chance to hunt some ice on the St Lawrence river. I always wondered why the split in the north is 5 days. With a work week the brids really get no break. Why not close it 2 or 3 weeks and get us into Christmas? My dad hunts on wolf Island and can hunt into January if he wants to. The late season west is a joke. There are parts of the season last year where I didn't even need to keep my jacket on. Yes there were some cold days where there were a few birds. But anyone who has been to the finger lakes when the boat ramps are froze knows what it should be like . I live for the late last season and I find it tiresome to keep going out there and doing what I love because it's not worth it. It was warm in Central New York until literally the day the duck season ended. After that there were ducks everywhere. My hunting friends and I were talking. We are willing to drive two and a half hours to be somewhere by 4:30 in the morning but we won't go to a meeting. I feel like a lot of duck hunters are in the same position. We need to be at these meetings and need to make our voices heard. Anyone who loves duck hunting and has a passion would agree the seasons are messed up. Just think of all those mornings sitting in the blind and not seeing anything close to what we should be. It comes up all the time when it's 50° in December. I feel it's the high rent marshes/feilds in the western zone that are throwing their power/money (we call them LL bean hunters) around so they can hunt their flooded fields/marsh and not get frozen out. 2. This is crazy. LL bean hunters dont like the cold. What a joke. Does anyone want to spill the beans on the north dates. I hope they pushed them back.... Sent from my SM-G965U using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  3. I guess. I shoot lots of wood duck, teal, black duck and widgon when I target puddlers so it won't really screw me up too much. I guess I am spoiled seeing mixed bag of ducks where I hunt. If a friend and I go out and shoot 4 mallards 3 wood ducks and a widgen or 2 I am a happy man. I remember reading you said you saw tons of ducks this year. Most people I talk to did not see very many at all(SLR and cny) in the early season. Boy did that change when it got cold for the second season in the west. There were ducks than I have ever seen day after day. I wish they would let you shoot more than 3 geese though I never thought you would be able to shoot as many black duck as mallards
  4. I have heard that. I am all for it! If everyone kills 2 less a day that is a lot of extra babies at the end of the year. I don't really see enough ducks to just pick drakes out and let the hens fly away. If it comes in it is dead
  5. That was us, late season duck hunters need to stick together. Nice job today I will probably head north next weekend maybe even hit cauyga. I don't think I will have time to scout this week though so I may have to stick with what I know Sent from my VS990 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  6. Not much action today. There was so much fog on the water I don't think the birds could see us very well. One week to go... Sent from my VS990 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  7. I have been out 6 times this late season. Only one really bad day. Got to love the late season. I saw more ducks in one day then I saw all year on the slr. Sent from my VS990 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  8. Had a visit from the Dec yesterday while out on seneca mid hunt. He showed up at our blind at 8 45 when the ducks were pushing big time. By the time he left it was close to ten. We left the house at 2 30 am and he ruined the best part of our hunt. I understand he is just doing his job but I have a lot of time and money into this to have that happen. If I wanted to watch ducks fly by in 0 degree weather I would sit in my truck and do it Sent from my VS990 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  9. I went out today between the cape and clayton on open water hunting divers. I did not even see a good duck. A bunch of mergs. I don't even know what to say or think there should be tons arluns. Maybe I am in the wrong place but I should at least be seeing something Sent from my VS990 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  10. Best in years!? Most people I know agree it has been the worst. Up on the St Lawrence and Syracuse area. Glad your having a good year!!! Sent from my VS990 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  11. I could not agree more with this post. Sacred grounds need to be protected. I stoped posting for this reason Sent from my VS990 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  12. Went out the other day and shot 20 or so over decoys. First time snow goose hunting and it won't be the last Sent from my VS990 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  13. Found the birds last night. They were gone this morning when we set up where they were. Saw cans with the spotlight when we pulled in, thought we were in business... As a duck hunter I live for 7 degree mornings because the ducks are in heavy. Maybe I am in the wrong place.... I have the week off next week. I hope some ramps make it. Its getting tight out there Sent from my VS990 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  14. It's crazy what a few days can do to push birds out. Not even a fraction today of what I saw Monday. Everything is starting to lock up... Sent from my VS990 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  15. Good start to the season Sent from my VS990 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  16. I agree. I will be out 11 days this late season. My friends and I will be doing laps looking most afternoons. If anyone wants to trade some info maybe we can save some time and money when things get going Sent from my VS990 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  17. I saw them the last weekend big time on the river. Then the season ended.... Funny how that works. I keep saying I am going to get my Canadian stuff ready but never do anything about it . they were in one spot. A few miles away it was like a ghost town Sent from my VS990 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  18. I think it's a blond mallard. We did well that day. lots of mallards and blacks around. They are gone now that's for sure...Sent from my VS990 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  19. Bagged this the other day Sent from my VS990 using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  20. Had my first group of brant come in. 50 at once. Got three of them. A scoter too. A windy day produced a interesting mixed bag of birds Sent from my VS990 using Lake Ontario United mobile app

    Beginners luck!

I agree. I know I put hours and hours into finding them and to just give it away so 3000 people to see it is crazy Sent from my SM-G900V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  22. If you find out let me know. No 18 inch walleye lives when it gets onto my boat. Anything over 21 inches goes back unless it is for a special reason. I kept a few big ones last weekend and I am still feeling bad about it. If you have something to back it up I will change my ways Sent from my SM-G900V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
  23. I posted this on the walleye side last week . Slr Sent from my SM-G900V using Lake Ontario United mobile app
