Hugh's 8-1
Hillside replied to reeltrout's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
My daughter and I went out of Sodus and put lines in at 300' (52* down 95'), 6 a.m.. We went 4 for 4 on small kings (2, 5, 5, and 6 pounders). We stayed out until we hit 525 feet (3 hours). It was too bumpy to troll back in, and we only planned on staying out a max of 4.5 hours anyway. I am glad my 15 year-old daughter didn't mind getting up at 3:50 a.m. to spend some time on the water. -

Bass on a thumper rod...LOL

I had 40lb. Big Game mono on the riggers yesterday out of Sodus and still collected fleas, but they came of easily (I could not "flick" them off though, I had to pull them off with a sliding motion). If I had fleas on the rigger lines in the past, I could just "flick" them off.

Pappy, I took my daughter out in the a.m. on the 7th out of Sodus too. No big fish like yours but we had fun. We did some dancing with the rods when we pulled her 16.5 pounder in (she did not want to hold the big one for the picture [she is waiting for her 20 pounder]). We had our lines around 10 feet deeper than you (Pappy). We ended up going 5 for 5. The fleas are the worst I have seen. When we were headed in, slowly picking our lines up we got this one (just over 18.5). My daughter passed on this one when she heard the drag go. We were inside 120 feet and I could not tell you how far down the rigger was because I brought is up some odd amount and then was distracted breaking down rods for a few minutes. My daughter is still learning how to handle the net (aren't we all, at times). She had the fish in the net, and then it jumped out before she pulled and lifted (we got lucky she got another chance to net, because the cheater was caught in the netting after the first attempt). The eel on this one didn't survive.

Advice on Purchasing a Portable Gravity Fed Fuel Tank
Hillside replied to Hillside's topic in Open Lake Discussion
I ended up purchasing a FLO-FAST Professional Model Pump from Cabela's. A bit pricey but I purchased it as a gift for my brother to use (for his side-by-sides, lawnmower, and his jet ski). I went with the cheaper option of the Safety Siphon - The Original Safe Multi-Purpose Self Priming Pump by The Original Safety Siphon...$16.99. Faster than a gravity fed tank (over 3 gallons per minute) and easy as heck to use. -

Advice on Purchasing a Portable Gravity Fed Fuel Tank
Hillside replied to Hillside's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Thanks for the replies (Bozeman Bob and Last One). This is a starting point. I do not know if Flo-Fast has gravity fed but I will check. -
Was wondering what brand I should look for (or features I should look to have) when purchasing a Portable Gravity Fed Fuel Tank. I am looking at getting a 12 to 16 gallon tank on wheels (probably want pneumatic tires) with a good quality nozzle. I need one for the side by side and one for a family member's boat on Seneca. What do you recommend. Thanks!

Relaxing Day Perch Fishing
Hillside replied to Hillside's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
Temp was 65.5* -
Took the riggers off the boat today and went out perch fishing. It was a fun day. We kept 40 perch for a few dinners. The highlight of the day was when our anchor got hung up on something. In the water I went and down to the snag and freed it. The water was refreshing. I hope the water level stays where it is with the rain coming. I want more days like today.

Out of Sodus - 9/18 a.m.
Hillside replied to Hillside's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
I did not try running meat (a decision we made early). The best marks we had were in 267' to 275'. Crazy marks (marks of bait pods only, fish only, and bait with fish marks) the marks were from 40' to 100' down. We just could not get any more takers (we marked them and kept circling back through from different directions). It was better than staring at a blank screen (it was a challenge [both fun and frustrating]).
