  1. Had my brother from Jamestown up for some Lake O fishing.  He fishes Chautauqua Lake for walleye and bass. Friday night we fished for 2 hours just NE of IBay in the 140-220 for area. The steelhead lit up from about 7:45 to a little after 8:00.  4 in 20 minutes. All on green/yellow flies with gold or silver SD flashers.  Yesterday went about 1 mile east of Braddock's in the 140-190 range marking a lot of fish.  Got a late start at 10:00 but still plenty of action. More steelies and one nice 16lb king.  DW NBK spoon and similar neon yellow and orange/yellow FF.  He took some nice salmon and trout home.

  2. I dock in I-Bay and seeing how it's been very slow out there decided to try near Braddocks. Marked quite a lot of bait and fish in the 150-230 fow area NE from the bay. I don't know this area very well as I usually fish from the river to Hedges, so can't be more specific about where. About a dozen boats out near me and conditions were better early rather than late AM. Hit a couple steelies at 55 and 60 over 160 on a NK wonderbread spoon. They were in the 7 to 8 lb range. Took a nice 12 lb king on a flasher/fly down 78 over 210. Overall much more action and activity in that part of the lake than out by I-Bay. I've been out the previous 3 weeks due N and NE from I-Bay and nothin'! Well worth the 20 minute cruise west. Will do again.IMG_20200614_094200294_HDR.jpeg

  3. Fishinfreak, I installed the new Mag 10 stx today and the electric plugs were the same as the old style Mag 10.  The old DR manual was late 90s so it's possible the previous owner upgraded the DR and battery wiring before I bought the boat in 2014.  The slide in base is different and the new low swivel base installed in same holes as previous one.  I sure like my Master lock with homemade aluminum T latch I use for the old DR better than the wimpy Cannon lock you buy for $35 for the new style.

  4. Offshore, I like the advice your charter Capt friend gave you.  Keep a simple and proven approach and try to find the fish. If you're on them you'll catch them.  I fish solo most of the time and it works for me and makes the trip more enjoyable.

  5. I have a pair of Cannon Mag 10s that are nearly 20 years old. One still going strong, the other failed just last weekend. I ordered a new Mag 10 STX and will be installing it today. The nice thing is it looks like the hole pattern for the swivel base is a perfect match from old to new. Definitely some improvements from old to new too. The old one that failed had a cracked spool that caused the spool to turn out of center as the DR operated. That made the motor gear and spool drive gear to have uneven contact and about 1/3 of the teeth on the spool drive gear wore down. Of course it gave up the ghost in the down position. It's fun pulling 90' of cable out of the lake. Thank God I had heavy leather work gloves on the boat. If I have any significant pros or cons soon I'll update this post.

  6. Trolled pretty much north of Hedges in the 200 to 300' area yesterday as shallower water showed nothing a few days before. Marked a few fish deep around 110' over 230' but no takers. Water had a nice 1' chop which calmed down as the sun came out. Then near noon when the wind shifted it started to chop up again. Has anyone else seen anything promising out of IBay in the last week?
