  1. My thoughts are with you and your family! My daughter was born at 29 weeks. She's 10 and perfect now. Listen to the doctors they know what they're talking about no matter how crazy it seems! If there's anything I can do feel free to PM me I've been in your shoes.

  2. 2 days after I got my driver license my best friend and I lied to my father and told him we were going to go to my friends camp on schroon lake fishing for the weekend. So Thursday afternoon we loaded up the boat a 1986 Starcraft 16ft and headed to Oswego. Friday morning at 4:30 we were launching the boat my buddy was with the boat when I parked the truck. Just got around the last dock when my buddy says " what the f*** my foots getting wet." I turned on a flash light and we had water up to the consoles. I knew enough to hammer the throttle and turn on the bilge. it finally got on plane and were able to get the plug put in from the inside.

That next day we got into a school of koho's and were catching one as soon as we could get a lure back down. We were with a group of boats and the weather was changing fast, after a while all the other boats were gone and we were in big trouble. The storm was between us and shore and by the time I was smart enough to call it a day the waves were coming over the bow and the thunder storm was between us and shore. I ended up "running" off shore to try and get away from it and somehow I kept the boat from sinking. We both put on life jackets and at one point my buddy was under the passenger dash in the fetal position. "Something I still rag on him about to this day."

That was my first solo trip to the big O about 2 weeks after my 16th birthday. We got home that Saturday night and We were still so scared that We told dad the truth, he wasn't even mad just glad we were OK. That's was over 15 years ago and I still remember that first trip like it was yesterday. I had been on the lake 100's of time with my old man before that weekend but that one was a big eye opener that I had a lot to learn.

  3. I did with a buddy, they love to follow and follow, sometimes for five or more minutes. That why you often get strikes when releasing the line from the rigger, reaction strikes. Try raising and lowering the rigger 5 ft or so every now n then.

You would be amazed how many bites I get by hitting max throttle on my troll master every 2 or 3 minutes.

If I mark a fish that doesn't hit I'll bump the botton a couple times and probably 1/3 of the time the fish will hit.

  4. Lake trout have been absent so far.  Been running a bottom thumper and have had one hit on that rig.  Now the eight color is on fire.  One short Atlantic and Smallmouth galore.  After snorkeling the rock structure around the north part of the lake, it became apparent there were no smallmouth where they "should be".  The food web appears to be Mayfly hatches as when it is calm on the lake, fish are up and feeding on the surface.  I am catching smallmouth in the middle of the lake on leadcore with a small Northern king aluminum blank in blue/chartreuse with some doctored orange tape on the other side........wtf.

Wait until you catch a smallie on that thumper rig in 100fow. Lake George is an interesting beast for sure. I fish it a ton and I haven't cracked the Nutt yet. Just when I think I have I get a big slice of humble pie! I think the smelt rule the lake and all the predator fish are on them.

  5. I have a 300 and 400 I just put together. I was concerned running them not knowing a small laker was on a board or same with a diver having more drag than the laker. I've only been trolling for two years but I'm trying to hammer the learning curve. Catching fish new ways is half the fun.

It's tough to tell there is a dink on a copper but after you watch your boards for long enough you will learn what to check for. Just bring a buddy to have reel them in when you check them often.

  6. I live a few minutes from the lake and started open water fishing it last year. Ive done well with salmon. I've had limited Laker success spoons so far. One on a gambler rig with spin and glow. Only tried that once so far. Any one have luck using wire divers? I was thinking about trying mag lip on diver with gamblers on riggers.

I run wire divers every time I fish the lake after the water warms up.

For what ever reason on lake George copper out fishes everything else on the boat day in and day out. I fish the lake 2 or 3 times a week and have only had 2 or 3 days when dipseys and riggers combined caught more fish than coppers. The problem is fighting a 5lb laker on a 3 or 400 copper sucks.

  7. It turns about 34-38 depending on conditions. I could have gotten the 150 but didn't see the need for speed anymore. Trolls down to 1.8 with no issues at all and nothing but 91 nonethanol gas as well. Fuel mileage is outstanding

    Thanks, I appreciate the info!

  8. Tupper is tough! There is some big lakers and big walleyes and they are often together. Find 60-80fow with a relatively flat bottom so you can keep close to bottom with cow bells and flat fish/peanuts and you will catch lakers and walleye. Walleye aren't usually in "normal" walleye waters on tupper.

  9. Anyone have any guesses to a copper dive curve at 1.5mph with 45lb copper? While trolling for lakers on inland lakes I like running junk lines and have been doing well on them but have no idea how deep they are running. I know my 300 will hit bottom in 90fow at 1.5. But would love to know where a 150,200and 250's are running.
