  1. Even tho I have the chip now I still pay for it on my phone. It gives me something to do at work and it's easier for me to search for spots than on the helix.

My buddy uses it on his iPad and that's really nice, its on a ram mount.

  2.

I am not to worried about split screen more of be able to see where is what as far as holes and structures once on them id switch back....at least I think that's what I would like to do.

If that's all you're going to use it for if you have a smart phone the navionics app for 10$ a year would be perfect! Screen shot from my phone.

  3. My suggestion is buy a helix 5 or 7 with just sonar and the local chip that covers your home water the best and use your current 597 for mapping and the helix for a fishfinder. A 5 or 7" screen is just too small to split screen.

  4. If that's the same chip that came with my helix 7 that I got from cabelas it was awful! It went in the trash because it was that bad. If you want the helix 5 get it but I wouldn't buy it just for the map card

  5. If you have a smart phone save a bunch of money and get the navionics app! Like 10-12$ I know have the Lake Ontario navionics chip in a helix 7 that is only used for mapping, but I got by with the app on my cell phone for a couple years.

  6. Save yourself a lot of struggle and ditch the blacks, they work great for kings but not lakers. I have drug 10lb lakers on blacks that 15" salmon popped. I run chamberlains now and don't think I have drug a fish with them. Tighten the top thumb screw with pliers and play with the end screw until they aren't releasing from the bells and a perch should release them fine.

  7. Well I picked up the 4hp 4-stroke, couldn't pass up the deal. I trolled with my 150 2-stroke for a long time so the vibration cant be any worse than that I would guess. I went the cheap route and ordered a panther aux steering kit, if it doesn't work I will have to look into an EZ steer setup. Anything else I need to know/do before I take it out for the first time?

If your clamping it to the transom go to tractor supply or what every you have close by and get a piece of 1/8-1/4" thick rubber mat and lay it over the transom and clamp the motor to it. It will take almost all of the vibration out of the motor and you won't feel it in the boat. I was about to sell my 5hp because it made the boat rattle until I was given the same advice.

  8. I have similar size boat with a 5hp merc 4stroke. Runs like a champ pushes the boat very well. It vibrates a little but I have it mounted on a rubber mat and it fixed the vibration issue completely.

  9. I own a 26' all weld pilot house (www.wooldridgeboats.com) that I bought in 2011. I charter with it on bay of Quinte and Lake O. It's a beautiful boat and I'm very happy with it. I went through a lot of what I'm sure your going through. My website is www.bayofquintecharters.com. There should be build pictures on there and a video or two. My cell number is listed on the site and I'd be happy to talk to you. Feel free to call and chat. I would also be happy to show you the boat in person and walk you through it. I couldn't find one closer to home and ended up flying out west and walking through a couple factories before buying my boat. I would have been happy to see one closer to home. Again feel free to call I'd be happy to chat.

I am in the process of talking to west coat builders and can't decide if I want an offshore bracket or not, how do you like it? Is it a pain to net fish?

  10. If it is your "perfect boat" although we all know that doesn't exist it's worth it. If you're going to keep it for the next 5-10 years because it fits you than its worth it. If you have it done and invest 10k in it and next year you want bigger or different than its not worth it because it will still be a 20+ yr old boat.

  11. Just trying to figure out how to check it without full drain I had it professionally winterized in October so I'm pretty sure it's good but don't like to leave things to chance especially with all the work I've put in last few weeks

For the 10$ worth of oil I would just drain it and refill. Lower units are EXPENSIVE oil is cheap, it's a no brainer. It's much easier to fix a problem if found early, especially when you're in the garage.

  12. Not quick disconnect, but 4 bolts. Can't believe this is stumping me.
That would solve the side to side issue, but I still can't trim. Feel like I'm doing something Wrong when I hit trim button lol.

If you take of the 4 bolts and take it off it will let you slide the kicker over towards the middle 5-6" from where you originally tried it and that should allow you to trim it all the way up.

  13. It would hit anywhere I Mount. Although maybe if I was on the driver's side (my swim step is there) the tiller handle could clear?
This is the outboard bracket I'm debating. IMG_1581.thumb.jpg.fb592f285f50dccf3064cb0b93a1db14.jpg

If it were my boat there is no way I would have that bracket holding up a 150lb motor that far back on an aluminum boat. I would buy a set of trolling bags and just troll with the main motor before I did that.

Another question how permanent is that ski pole? Is it something you could make into a quick detach? Kicker motor aside I wouldn't think that you would want to be netting a fish around that thing.

  14. Buddy has a 196 with a Suzuki 9.9 kicker that's a tiller and no issues with it hitting anywhere. Does it hit because of how far over you need to mount it to clear the ski pole?

If it were me I would save the money on a new kicker and have a tower built to go over the Bimini that could tow skiers and also work as a rocket launcher and get that out of the back of the boat. Not my boat but this is the same one I had on my phantom and I loved it! Place to put rods and if you wanted to plenty strong enough to pull a skier.IMG_3206.thumb.JPG.00f04ec3471f99b3a6557210f678b1e5.JPG

  15. I had a fish finder in the back of mine and I hated it. I'm sure it depends on the boat but it was always in the way and getting bumped by everything.
