    Ha this is hilarious.

Agreed though, I don’t and never meant to disrespect anyone. I’m very blunt by nature. Bottom line is I do hope we can legally launch our boats and lay a smack down soon. I hope none of the members here recognize my boat and plot revenge once we do get back out! haha

Out of curiosity, are they even closing ramps at small bodies of water to or just areas that frequent alot of out of state users and high usage? I was planning havin my boat in salmon country by last week. Oh well theres always  August or next year.  I wonder if other states would try to do the same. I took my 25ft trophy to a local 100acre lake yesterday to scratch the itch of trollin for trout  caught 3 stocked rainbows 10”-12”. Lol. Looked like the titanic out there. But even here in PA people are over crowding the launches. After I got in the lot filled up and people actin like nothin goin on. Boats with 3-4 grown men. Obviously there not from the same houshold. I wonder how much more were gonna loose before this thing is over. But on the other hand theres alot who lost it all.

Yes I get what they’re trying to stop, which is what you’ve outlined there. I understand I’ve been outspokenly against this, but at the same time, as you’ve said, having bots with 3-4 dudes is not super smart.

I have frequented this site at least twice a day for years, enjoyed the banter immensely, learned more than I could ever give back and on a hectic day nothing is more relaxing than a couple minutes on LOU. Until last Thursday. I can't believe people I feel so much in common with are so selfish as to endanger all of us over a fish! A fish that will be there still when we get back out there. The excuses I read are absurd.

This virus is transferable for several days before it actively attacks you - you will not know till its too late, no you may not die but you will infect someone who will infect someone and they may die. I work as support to people in the health care field, first responders do not have unlimited access to protection equipment, how would you like to worry about the outcome of every patient you deal with? Would you worry about bringing it back to those you care about. Lets look at the nursing home system, my mother in law is in one that's in lock down, she suffers from dementia and none of her family can visit her let alone try to explain why she thinks she's in prison. If you have been hiding under a rock let me tell you all our hospitals are now locked down as well - no visitors.

I love the political banter on this site but guys, this ain't politics, no one knew this was coming or to what extent, we couldn't possibly afford to have enough medical equipment on hand to be ready for something that may show up every century.

Those of you whining about your rights have forgotten you can't exercise these rights without respect for others and the system, maybe you should go to China and see how you feel.

I hope people can really think about what truly is important and I hope those of us who can, can influence a few others.

    Happy Easter

This is not about fishing or “one fish”. It’s about how our government can control every aspect of our lives based on skeptical at best “facts”. False reporting is going on everywhere. Have you noticed heart attack, stroke, etc deaths have plummeted? Why is that? It’s because the CDC has ordered that if people die from anything, but test positive for C19, their death cert will state C19 was the cause of death. So let’s say 100,000 unfortunately die- how many would have died if they hadn't contracted c19? Make your own conclusion.

Like many others on this site, we are disgusted at how much control can be placed on us at will by the so called leaders in government. Check out the mayor of Chicago who banned hair salons, then the next day shows up with her hair perfectly done by her stylist who she allowed to break the rule. These politicians think they’re above us. Do as I say, not as I do. Or cuomo having these daily meetings without a mask is 1000x worse than me launching my boat and fishing a couple hours.

Offshore IV, me too. Had surgery in September and still having a lot of issues so they did a CT and myelogram in February had an appointment with my doctor on March 9th and he wanted an MRI because he needs a better view because a cyst might have grown back in the spine. Well they stop elective procedures a couple days later. Last week I had to borrow a walker because I couldn't walk and now I'm having an MRI Tuesday.

A lot of lives effected by this.

Be safe during your visits, hope for the best 🙏

I wish you could see this isn't political!  Most states have made the same decisions as NY.  South Carolina has way less cases but yet they closed their launches a week sooner than NY.  Cuomo actually waited longer than many states to make the decision to close launches.  All 50 states have requested Trump to declare a state of emergency, and he has granted it to every single state.  If you want to talk about the safe act it's a short conversation on this forum, but this isn't that and they aren't related!

For sure, I don’t think it’s political. I just don’t like ignorant decisions and those know no political party. Closing boat launches is going to do nothing either way. The only argument I can see is if out of staters or nonlocal people fished so just outlaw that.

I dont like someone in government running running every aspect of my life. And it’s starting to feel that way.

I understand freaking a little because you can't go fishing. I couldn't fish all last year because of my back and might not be able to fish this year so I feel your pain. I've basically been home bound for over 11 months. BUT

I haven't had to deal with

Not being able to see my baby born because of the virus.

Having a loved one die and not be able to go to their funeral or visit them in their time of need.

Had to go to work in an essential job and worry if I'm going to bring the virus home to my family.

Laid in a hospital bed not knowing if I'm going to go home and not be able to have a visitor.

Hope this ends soon for everyone.

Right and I’ll say that this is not (for me personally) complaining about not being able to fish. I’ve only been fishing the lake for five years or so. I’m more upset that our governor is making decisions like this. The safe act was another example. He just does something just to do something.

I hope you Can get out soon and your back heals!

  7. Here’s an idea. Solo fishing only. Or only people you live with can fish on your boat. And zero people from out of state allowed, or even only folks within a 50 mile radius.

To say the government “has” to close boat launches really concerns me. Does the government “have” to come into your home if they suspect your sick? A history lesson tells us the last time that happened WWII began due to a tyrannical government and the last known genocide.

Im ok with you being super careful, that’s your business. But closing boat launches to anyone is straight ignorance.

I don't blame the out of staters,i blame everyone on this site that went out fishing and had to go post fishing reports, pictures of four people on a boat, pictures of full lots and talking about full lots and heavy boat traffic.i can only imagine the same thing is on facebook and all the other stupid social media sites.if you would have just went fishing and kept your mouth shut and stayed off the internet, you probably would still be fishing!!!!!!!keep posting pictures of ramps that are still open, you are helping the state find them and close them too!!!!!!and if anyone thinks this is gonna be over with in a couple weeks, you are sadly mistaking, vermont just extended their stay at home order to may 15th and we all know that this moron Cuomo isn't gonna be out done by another state,so im sure in a few days he is gonna make an announcement that he is extending the stay at home order in new York till the end of may.

This is a pretty ignorant comment. Ive posted pictures with me on a bot with people I live with. So don’t paint us all with a broad stroke. If you cannot see the overreaction here, I don’t know what to tell you.

I don't want anyone to get sick or god forbid loose their life from this virus. But the reality is most people will get it eventually. And like other viruses people will die from it. I wasn't in favor of shutting things down but it hasn't been as bad as I thought. I'm sure it's hit some people hard financially I really feel for those folks. It seems the shut down has had an effect on the spread of this thing. Now it seems like we are on the down hill side of this virus. My feeling now is its time to start getting back to some kind of normal. We all know it's not going to be the same as it was. Some things will change forever because of this. Will more people get sick? Yes. But that happens every year from the flu. Until their is a vaccine we will all get this like the flu. Most of us will be down for a week or so and then recover. If people are scared to get it or has a health issue that makes them vulnerable to getting critically sick then you should stay home and avoid exposure. Those folks can take advantage of the programs to get through this financially. But for the rest of us I think it's time to get back to work and back to living our lives. We could keep things shut down longer but how long is longer? A couple more weeks? Maybe another month or two? Or longer? My point is the "experts" say without a vaccine it could go on for a year or two with spikes and lulls until we all eventually get it. In my humble opinion I think we've done what we can to limit the initial spread of this virus. We are past the peak and it's time to get back to our lives. Happy Easter to everyone and your families.

Yea Its not a city disease as much as it is a social gathering disease. We have a very popular tiny little italian meet market in our area. They are known for their meatball mix. That meatball mix probably makes up 60% of their business its that popular. Anyways my neighbor who lives down the street went there march 16th. A week later it was reported that an employee there had tested positive for COVID19. The county gave the guidelines that anyone who visited that store within the 16th and 17th should self quarantine. Not two days later after the media reported the employee tested positive both my neighbors got extremely sick and were diagnosed with the disease.....One was on the ventilator but now both are home on quarantine recovering....

My point is this. That meat market is very small. Mom and pop and one or two employees. Sort of like.......All these businesses in these little lake shoreline towns....It can and does spread very easily....

Agreed, which brings up why fat Nancy’s is considered essential lol my buddy’s and I were wondering about that.

Im guessing if the launches aren't monitored like Sandy, Ibay, etc...they will remain in use. Launches similar to The Small Boat Harbor in Buffalo will close.

From talking to the sheriffs earlier in the year, I’m going to be surprised if they even comply. Even then they were sick of this crap, no pun intended

I totally get what you're saying, and I'm with you to some extent. It is a sure bet that the virus is more widespread among affected communities than the number of positive tests would indicate. That's because we're using a diagnostic test, which misses folks who have had it, and there's truly asymptomatic carriers. So, for example, NYC could have ridiculous numbers, as could New Orleans - but probably only since Mardi Gras - much like that town in Germany that you reference in your link, which was hit hard post-festival. This phenomenon is probably restricted to areas where the virus is known to have or could have feasibly spread. So, it's unlikely that Rochester saw massive COVID infections in December, for example. The other part of the equation that's a complete unknown is how long post-infection immunity lasts. Coronaviruses cause the common cold, and we all know that immunity is ephemeral for that. So, even folks who know they've recovered from COVID-19 shouldn't feel like they're bulletproof yet.  The jury is still out on that one.

That makes sense to me but we don’t know, and likely never will. I don’t feel like I’m bulletproof, but my evaluation of risk/reward draws the line. Giving folks the option to launch their boat is extremely low risk (if not, zero), offers people the chance to catch multiple meals worth of food, and gets them out of the house. And to people saying “well yea but you gotta stop at bait shops and gas stations”. Sure. If I lived 100 miles from the launch, your point is valid. But I’m closer to the launch than I am the grocery store. So are you gonna stop me from getting groceries? Because the two are exactly the same, in the sense of how many doors I’ll touch and gas pumps I’ll touch.

  13. When I launched Tuesday, someone alone had a center console prob 16-17’ boat with a 70 two stroker recovering by himself. I asked if he wanted help but said no. I was a little surprised. Then I realized he probably just wanted me to stay away haha

I'm unaware of this data, and in fact there's some indication in academic circles that this could be misinformation spread through social media. Do you happen to have a good reference? Unfortunately, if folks think that cough they had in December means they're immune to COVID-19, well...there's potential to cause a lot of harm. While I agree that we can't rigorously rule out some community transmission late last year, it is quite unlikely that it went undetected for that long in the general population. If there wasn't the potential for harm, I wouldn't argue, but this is a dangerous road to go down.

I agree with some of what you've posted on this thread, but I can't get behind this particular theory. Sorry.

You can search it and find many references, I’ll include this one, albeit from only one German town. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.technologyreview.com/2020/04/09/999015/blood-tests-show-15-of-people-are-now-immune-to-covid-19-in-one-town-in-germany/amp/

I dont get my news through social media. My common sense tells me there are many who have had it, their bodies rejected it (much like any other flu) and afterward developed antibodies for it. They basically got the vaccine the hard way haha but I’m not the endall be all, certainly not a doctor, so I’m totally open to discussion. These are only my opinions.

Keep in mind that the virus is non discriminate to the politicians nor anyone else for that matter. Speaking of grocery stores.  Has anyone been in one lately? Its a completely different atmosphere and honestly it kinda skeeves me out.....Its not the same ..And I ask myself is this all media hype, is it valid. I mean I know some neighbors who have the virus. That doesnt scare me but at the same time when im at the store around people, I get weird lol....Like I want to get in and out real quick lol.

The problem is they cannot shut them down.....But it probably would not be a bad idea

I feel the same way. Almost like everyone’s looking at everyone as if they have six eyes. I hate to make this analogy, because I’m sure some folks on here have special needs kids, but it’s like when you walk into a store with a child who has severe physical handicaps and people unintentionally stare at you for a few seconds. Same feeling now just with everyone.

And I get that the question was in good intentions but he didn’t think that one through!

I don't get how launches are closed, but parks and open space remain open. Have you seen Mendon Ponds Park? Or the canal path? The amount of people who are going stir-crazy and out for "exercise" is unreal. I don't care if you put forty boats in at Honeoye or Conesus or even 200 boats at the Cat. You aren't coming anywhere near the number of people who are interacting in other venues. Risk, reward, Cuomo!! You said it yourself. Yeah, if you drive 200 miles to fish and lick every doorknob on the way here, then that's an issue. If you want to shutter movement, then go full lock-down. Stop making it okay for the dumb*sses. to ignore policy, while honest fishermen who are trying to do the right thing get penalized. Risk, reward. Nobody's crying here or minimizing the impact on NYers' lives. it's just common sense. There's got to be a ceiling to this escalation. Flattening the curve doesn't change the space under the curve. We all need to be prepared to get COVID at some point, it's inevitable now, like the flu. Okay, rant over.

They’ve already found people who have the antibodies to fight covid 19 back in December- meaning a lot of people have already had it, recovered from it and are now immune to this particular strand. Don’t hear that on CNN or Fox News though do you?

Well that may be true but it is the travel to and from the launch which is the true risk. I mean even if one stops at the store along the way or a bathroom or even to get gas could be an issue. And if one uses the launch and then another and another that could and does create groups of people larger than ten which is another guideline...Ultimately the actions of one could effect another...Im just gonna take my kayak down the Sterling Creek Saturday...

I hear ya and I don’t mean to be combative but this is exactly like the reporter that asked directly to Trump on Monday why he hasn’t considered shutting down everything including grocery stores for two weeks. Absolute insanity. It reminds me of parents who shelter their kids from everything. When those kids get out on their own, and the real world punches them in the mouth, they fold like a lawn chair. Point is, we can’t just stop America everytime someone sneezes. America would never “reopen”.
