  1. i often wondered if anyone ever kept track of hookup ratios using snubbers vs no snubber
  2. Baddad we've been using the trilene big game fmono for our leaders and mainlines without issue its pretty inexpensive and seems to take abrasion pretty well so it can be changed out often if needed we found when connecting it to the wire it was beneficial to have that stretch especially due to the fact the wire dosent stretch and with flouro it can be brittle at inopportune times if you know what i mean
  3. i went with a sure flow 70 psi its been 2 years no issues just make sure at the end of the season run it dry so it wont freeze
  4. B O A T break out another thousand lol
  5. so before stepping up to a Grady white with hydraulics my last setup was 19.5 foot great lakes special sea nymph which also had a cable steering system so i put the intellisteer which replaces the steering helm under the dash and you connect your steering cable directly into it and attach your steering wheel was easy half hour job no gps but definitely was somewhere between the expense of the gps and manual it was like $700
  6. oh i forgot to add i control the main motor with the autopilot and the kicker via ez steer so if you have to use the main motor for the trolling you can still steer if you decide to go with an autopilot
  7. hey baddad1 ive been watching the thread and wanted to add my 2 cents i struggled with the decision of autopilot remote controls etc and resolved my issue.with the following we usually fish 2 guys in the boat so someone at the wheel is sometimes not possible setting lines netting fish etc so i went with the raymarine ev1 autopilot and im very happy as far as the kicker i have a 15 hp honda that i installed the trollmaster remote throttle control i have a cable throttle control but just couldn't ever find the sweet spot and found myself constantly adjusting pia the finite adjustment to the throttle really works well with the trollmaster from anywhere in the boat good luck !
  8. x2 with whaler the slide divers are definitely a more stealthy approach and eliminates the need for hand lining as needed when a fixed diver is used. We run them on braid with a length of rod leader the beauty of the slide is your leader from the diver is completely adjustable to get it away from your presentation good luck
  9. I like your ingenuity and the results lol im going to try it thanks for sharing
  10. hey tony im Joe if its tactics and tips your looking for this is the forum there's a lot of good fisherman in this group and a lot are willing to share unfortunately it only goes so far practical application is another story as you know from your experience with saltwater fishing .I had the fortune of fishing Cayuga a few years with a good friend and learned a lot now by no means am I a pro but we've put some nice fish on the deck. That being said fast forward to the big pond whole new learning process starting with the browns in the spring and transitioning to the kings late spring into summer it took a lot of trial and error and trips to the tackle store but we've developed a pretty good game plan to keep the skunk out of the boat we would be happy to share our experience with you and your son .we fish out of Oswego and Mexico if your interested contact me in the spring and hopefully we can connect and start with the browns
  11. wow very refreshing to see there are still honest people in the world speaking for myself I know how much I've invested in some of my tackle bags I sure hope if ever one makes it in the water I hope you folks find it thank you for your honesty
  12. Yeah we learned that lesson the hard way as well I’m quite sure that a tackle store could be stocked with the tackle that’s on the bottom of the lake
  13. so my brother and I left the oz at first light Monday am to find the lake in a really good mood it was flat and we were prepared for battle.i was first up in the ring i got slammed on my wire rod diver parked at 300 feet on the counter after some good runs and great anticipation the fish was 20 feet from the stern when suddenly my dreams were dashed and the fish in Houdini fashion went back to his friends oh well I got the best of him and considered it a long line release we finished the am with 2 break offs 1 at the wire mono knot and 1 at the fly check them leaders 4 kings and a 30 inch stealhead all in all not too bad considering the moon phase temps were 90 over 200 46degrees .I wouldn't feel right if I didn't mention the real nemesis THE FLEAS thank god we brought a couple mono setups or it would have been a disaster of magnum proportion so that leads me to this question other than the obvious how does a full line of fleas affect the presentation does it ride higher in the column do the fish avoid the 1/4 inch rope being pulled through the water and spook them do the fleas get in their gills any thoughts? The takeaway leave the braid home and be prepared to do battle with the fleas. Oh ps if anyone catches a salmon with a fly twinkie rig and flasher we'd like it back lol
  14. thank you for all your input I have contacted hank and hope to get things up and running just in time for the salmon bite tight lines to everyone

  17. hey fingerlakes nice to see your still fishing with the legend lol nice laker think the full moon got you as well as us fished the big pond the same day with 0 takers first time hopefully that streak is over managed to put a 10pound 13 ounce brown in the boat last week looking forward to the king bite
  18. been fishing Cayuga for a few years now and we have good luck launching out of long point and fishing south along the east shore 40 feet and less its pretty flat with the exceptions of the occasional points that will come up pretty quick watch you're electronics lol spoons and stickbaits on slide divers and boards. north of long point is also real good as the bait balls start to show themselves specifically up by the college another flat with a nice drop-off again keep an eye on youre screen good luck
  19. yeah im sorry for them hopefully it will only be temporary I guess its going to mostly depend on how we police ourselves with distancing and not giving anyone a reason aka the government a reason to reinstate
  20. just read this morning the boat ramps and marina closures has been lifted for ny and other states hallelujah ! knock the dust off them reels.
