  1. This Juvenile Bald Eagle gave me the signal... along with your report... time to launch!
  2. It really was pretty crazy amazing last year. I remember days where I'd be looking at the fish I just caught and dreaded putting the line back out because my arms were too tired to fight another. Cry me a river, right? Still, there's slow, and then there's this. These posts are very much appreciated, as we all might be questioning our own approach at this point, and that's just not the issue.
  3. Burping fish? That's a great trick! Have to admit, I've never even heard that before. As for re-lining the meat rigs, I'm totally with you there, for many reasons. Thanks for the vid, always great info.
  4. Nice! Great details. Thanks for the report.
  5. That's great news. I did hear from my local grapevine that size seems to be on the high side. I'm liking what I'm seeing out the window this morning. 8 out of the next 10 days are forecasted to have very favorable SW winds. Could be glorious.
  6. Gave up checking the bar 2 weeks ago. I'd be running search patterns at every depth and couldn't believe how blank my screens were. You know it's bad when you're sitting there behind the wheel, look over your shoulder and wonder to yourself... "maybe my transducer fell off" It's as if every weekend has had raging waves, and winds coming from the N or NE for the rest of the week. Even in peak season, I learned to not bother on days like that. BUT!!! I'm calling it. This upcoming week is the week! I predict, (fingers crossed), we shall see The Return of The KiNGS! Good luck everyone. Had to share my frustrations.
  7. Been checking the bar occasionally, late afternoons. I began wondering if my transducer fell off. I'm hoping things set up better in about a week.
  8. Anyone notice the sea of dead to partly dead fish along the bar these last few days? They were all nearly the exact same size, approximately 6" in length. They were present along the entire stretch I was trolling.
  9. It's actually a serious clinical syndrome, referred to as G.A.S. We all get G.A.S. Gear-Aquisition-Syndrome
  10. I pulled out nearly 80 pounds of kings last week off the bar, going solo with just 2 riggers. Finally smoked it all and now have room in the fridge for more! Trying to head out again later today. Last time, I went out to 230 FOW, trolled S, lines down between 75 and 85 feet down. All spoons. The only time I saw something on the scope was when they struck. Plenty of marks in 165' to 120' range, but only got hits out deeper. Great pics.
  11. Went for our first trip to Erie, from the Canadian side. Launched from Turkey point, marked a lot of schools of bait, but no fish. Then, we headed to the drop off and landed one very good size walleye (my first), and lost the other from a line snap. It was and exploratory session, and we had to cal it quits due to waves. Fish n' chips were fabulous! Fish down 35' over 70 fow. Home made worm harnesses with a perch colored spoon/flasher. 2nd fish came with line in water for only 5 minutes.
  12. You're exactly correct about the small fish not surviving the ride along. If I see them out there, I lighten up the tension and/or check my lines much more often. It's almost funny how good you feel about releasing a small survivor.
  13. I keep my clips super tight too. Personally, I've felt that if the clip releases, it doesn't matter how fast I grab the rod, with any slack on the line the fish (salmon) always seems to get off the hook. I like the cannon clips. The "click...click...click" means I'm good. Oh, the only issue I've had is when the dinks are out. You could be driving around for an hour without a hit, because you've got a dink in tow.
