  2. Congrats to port of rochester capt. Tom Widell with the current leading brown trout in the LOC Derby....18.03 lbs!!!!!! Nice catch
  3. Yet another steelhead from the scoth bonnet gap offshore http://t.co/DeU7E7zz0F

  4. Been out to Canada border a number of times already this month out of port of rochester. A lot of monster steelhead and big kings. The Kings coming deep (90 foot plus down)
  5. June 1st and the fishing can be summed up in one word consistent! The port of rochester is still the place to be... http://t.co/Rx5heuL03C

  6. Great Lakes lure company, Jason just took the company back over from his father so no website yet. You can either reach him on here.... Great Lakes lure maker or in facebook at Great Lakes lure company. The wobblers are a great "old school" spoon. Unique shape and action. Plus a speed range that is incredible I have pulled them at 3.6 and still hold their action!
  7. Thanks justgrinning Johnnynov- If you are still looking to book a charter trip we have multiple boats and can accommodate you and your needs. Contact me if still interested. Thank you
  8. The offshore gig is my favorite time also!! Monster steel head, no other boats in sight for days on end and add them big deep summer kings... How can you not love it!!!! I will take offshore fishing over any other fishing on Lake Ontario hands down! Glad to see I'm not the only one that spends a ton on gas running out there for weeks on end lol
  9. Piratesholly- Maybe escape or one of the sandy creek boys will post what's going on down that way. We have been working genny to webster mostly but have been to braddocks and lighthouse a few times but not any further towards Hamlin way yet. These winds are gonna change things up a bit. I would check the lake surface temp maps from Devils nose to braddocks. Look for a strong surface temp brake they start to show up between now and 1st week of June usually. They can be insane for surface steelhead action and occasional Kings. If no good brakes then set up in 55' and roll north from there. Again these winds gonna change things. A lot of our bigger kings have been caught and marked close to bottom so if yA see them on graph they may not be lakers. Best spoons for us have been super slim style or 28 size mags have taken some fish but mostly slow for us. Long leads off the riggers have also been key 35-60 back off ball. Free sliders have taken some fish also-/-- Great Lakes lure Keuka wobblers and SS. Hope this helps and good luck
  10. Thork9- Black boxes can be effective just like the positive ion control on cannon riggers. I puts a specific current to the riggers which will either attract or repel trout and salmon. Generally shorter rigger leads work when used with the box. That being said before considering a unit check your boats "charge" . Run everything like you would while fishing and with riggers in the water. Also check all your boat grounds and zincs. Had a scotty unit On my last boat and overall I found correcting sub par boat grounds and making better terminal connections on everything had a far greater impact than the black box ever did.
  11. Port of Rochester and Lake Ontario still fired up! The King salmon bite has been insane the past 4 or 5 days. 55' to 100' foot of water has been key location. Averaged 25 fish on each time out over the past four days with Saturday being best day boating 27 and losing 5 others. Spin doctors/fly in glow/green. Spoons have been anything green/glow or black. Great Lakes lure company Keuka wobblers have been also taken. Few steelhead and Browns mixed in with the salmon on free sliders. Most kings in the 15-17 pound range with a few tipping the 20lb mark.
  12. Chris the guy holding the fish sent me the pic last night at 9pm when I was doing report. Sorry he sent wrong pic and I didn't look before posting. We'll get pics from Him and post. Thanks again a-lure-a and hope yA poked a few on that spoon I floated yA. It good multi species and multi condition spoon. Always in my spread somewhere.
  13. Thurday morning we decided to take a gamble and leave the bite that has been going on between shipbuilders and ginna. We opted to head west - knowing that the conditions would be tougher BUT not a boat has been west for awhile so we wanted to try for a derby fish in virgin waters for our customers. Ran West to just before Braddocks and found warmer water BUT gin clear to point we could see bottom in 20' of water. We set up a full brown spread and worked 15-25 fow from before braddocks bay to the light house. We pulled some browns but all cookie cutters and one about 6 pounds.Natural sticks in black/gold and black/silver off the boards with 150 to 200' leads. We turn north at the light house and switched gears seaching for a king. Zig zaged between 45 and 75 foot water (still very clear) braddocks pulled a coho of a 2 color core with gllc wobbler in black/silver, then a bunch of skipper kings on the rigs and 5 color cores. turned back east towards light house and moved out to 85-115' water. Pulled a nice steelhead of silver face/red cup wobbler off a 2 color core and some lakers up to 14 lbs. off wire 90 out on a 3 with white/green dot soinny and pro/am fly and 125 out wire with NBK spinny and fly. Lost a good fish on the 60' rigger 40' back with nbk mag. It was now 11;30 and we had out limit for our guys from the tough waters but no derby fish or big kings. We talked with our old bud A-lure-a who was fishing west and said he had some kings and steel still going off hedges. So we pulled and ran to try for anothr grand slam and a derby king. Set up off hedges about 12:15 and started setting our the king spread. Didn't take long and we got a few kings going but nothing for the loc with biggest boated 16 pounds. Pulled rods at 2:00 with a good full box and a grand slam. Thanks for keeping the bite hot for us A-lure-a and keeping us updated. Kings came on 5 color core with NBK dw SS and 30' rigger with mongoose spoon, $5' rigger with GLLC double down spoon. Friday we went back east and set up just past shipbuilders in 65'. Different water - color-temp and screen. Trolled to hedges between 65 and 85'. Tougher bite for sure but still pulled our fish All kings with a bonus of a beautiful Atlantic salmon. Had a better screen by hedges and a litttle east but all our fish but 1 came west of webster to just off i.bay. 65'-85' fow. 5 color color green spook and gator dw SS spoons, 45' rigger with 42 second spoon, 25' rigger gllc double down, wires out 90 on a 3 with 42 second spoons, 10 color core with wonderbread, The Atlantic came on a new custom painted red/white great lakes wobbler off a 2 color core. All fish on Friday came on a west troll except 1. Long leads off the rigger 45-65 back off for a few days for boat maintenance and other commitments. nice 7 out of 8 day stretch of fishing with a wide varity of species including 3 Atlantics and 4 grand slams. Love fishing off Rochester from kings to browns to steelhead always something chewing!
  14. Oh we have a lot of tricks up our sleeve. Your on the water to fish and have fun. Cell phones, facebook , Twitter and video games can wait till back at dock. I'm sure you think of a way to get rich back for that....hmmmm hide his food
  15. today capt. rich and myself had the owner of Great Lake Lure Company (Jason) and his girlfriend Theresa aboard the "fired up". We set this trip up with a few missions to accomplish. 1) to celebrate Theresa's birth day (happy b-day), 2) field test some new great lakes lures products, 3) sample alittle of each offering of the spring fishery - different species, techniques, patterns, water depths etc, 4) compare lure actions and speed ranges against other companies 5) have some laughs and fun 6) fish the LOC derby We started off sampling the in tight brown fishery. Set up off webster pier and worked east all the way to ginna. Trolled all the way east in 8 to 14 foot of water. water clarity ranged from 5 to 11 feet down most of the troll. First release was gold challenger off the boards ...came off during multiple hand offs of the rod. LOL Next came a small brown on a black/gold challenger stick 125' back. Another shot on a fire tiger and g-o-n-e after a few seconds. Took a shot on a Great lakes keuka wobbler goby 5' rigger back 75' while clearing lines after pulling thru a debris field but dumped it. Black/silver stick bait took a coho back 125' and while netting the goby wobbler fires again but gone by time got to rod. Then rod bends over cracks off the planer release and we got Theresa's birthday present LOC Derby brown on but before it hits the net it comes off Take another brown just before ginna on black/gold stick again. Mission 1 accomplished Turn north once we get around the west side of the buoys and start to switch up gear and programs. While switching up we lose probe downspeed/temp....UGGGG. Continue setting up and rolling north 2 color core takes a rip with NBK. Troll out to 100 fow and then turn west and start working back towards home. Testing speed range and action of the N35's - these spoons have a high end speed range like the old school optimizers. they started to come to life at 2.7-3.0 speed over ground and hold action well above this. Also we compared various Great Lakes lures blanks again other companies -comparing action, speed ranges, cup bends, sizes, weights, metal gauge thickness, paint quailty etc. Also We tested a new spoon blank form that Jason has prototyped. Very nice action is 2.4-2.7 speed over ground range and doesn't spin out our lose action well above this range. Going to be very productive we they get painted up. mission 2 accomplished worked in and west towards webster and rigger fires 47' down over 81' on a custom black/glow/silver spoon. Theresa's on the rod and boats her personal biggest lake trout ever! great job! mission 3 accomplished Couple of shots on keuka wobbler spook free slider on the 35' rigger. Then the wire fires 69' out on a 3 setting over 65 foot water. White green dot spinny with pro/am glow fly - another good size laker. Hooked into 38' water and the corner rigger 21' down starts a smoking. Therea's on the rod and gets her bday present. A beautiful king that put up a crazy fight- put she was a pro on the rod and got it to the net. great job. This king came on a 42 second spoon OUR first fish ever taken on this spoon!!!! mission accomplished Pulled rods and headed in Alot of laughs, testing, talking, and a good time. Happy Bday again ! will let either capt. Rich, Jason or Theresa add about the combat planer boards, all the jokes and pics, and the newly famous phrase from Theresa.
