Sandy Creek Shootout 2012

All set Keith - links are active. Good luck with the tourney!!! -
Thanks guys for the kind words! Yes, old man - that is a box of worms on the dash . My friend/co-worker brought them with not thinking the pike action was going to be as good as it was I guess It only took him about 5 casts to realize that. Panfisher - "nothing crazy big" refereed to that day on Conesus. We got a lot of fish but all were average size IMHO. Nice pretty fish though that I certainly will never complain about We did have a couple big girls up to the boat but couldn't get hooks into them. Windy weather keeping me off the water here for most of this weekend.... starting to get the itch again to get back out there but finally grounded myself long enough to change up main line, replace leaders, sharpen hooks and repair casting reel so I kinda needed the break to get everything back in top working order again to be honest. Maybe I will try and sneak out tonight if the wife lets me.... time to think of a good excuse on why we MUST go fishing tonight.... hmmmmmm...

Nice fish man - very addicting indeed

Thanks guys! Panfisher....... that one pike (3rd picture down) was a new personal best for me weight wise. It was one of those fish that when it hit, felt like I had just snagged bottom..... I didn't even realize I had a fish on until 3-4 seconds afterwards (armature mistake ) The fish was THICK from head to tail...... it was just over 37" inches long but definitely my heaviest pike ever boated. We didn't weight the fish.... just a quick picture and back she went to get even FATTER!

Couple pictures from this past weekend fishing around Rochester and down on Conesus.... Took a couple friends/co-workers out had some fun pike fishing. Xraps and spoons working well. White/Red and Gold/Brown seem to be best colors for us. Musky lures produce big pike as well Don't be afraid to upsize now that the water temps are warming up. Ended up having personal best day on the water for Tigers boating SIX Tigers that morning (along with 12 pike). Nothing crazy big but I always get excited to see one no matter the size Gorgeous Fish! All fish released quickly and safely to grow a bit bigger. Slowly fine tuning the system in prep for the musky opener....... can't wait! Cheers Chad

That is so funny about those gangster bullhead! Had the same issue throwing my 6" LEO! Never seen something like that before but I must have had at least half dozen bull head follows.... haha. -
Awesome... love it

Awesome Bob - let us know how you do. I'm still trying to decide where I'm going.... weather is going to be nice NOT to fish!

Thanks for the kind words everyone! Had a great time and we released all fish we caught....... the weekend is looking really nice and my guess is that the water temps will break 60 there soon enough. So get out there!!!

By the way Tom (tcon) - I have the exact same 24v Minn Kota ipilot trolling motor and charged it once before we left on the trip Friday and ran it HARD for 4 days straights and it still showed 50% by the end of the trip - very impressive! You will love that trolling motor..... makes a huge difference. I use auto pilot and spot lock religiously out there to keep us right on the good water.

Hi LOU-skies, Had a fantastic birthday weekend with the family the last couple days as we rented a cottage on Conesus for family esox fun Special thanks to the wife for setting that all up. The fishing and weather cooperated nicely and made for a very memorable 30th! Started the trip with water temps at 52.5 (slightly warmer on the north and south basins) and ended the trip with water temps at 58! Had a nice bite going every day we were there with lots of smaller pike mixed in with some smallmouths, largemouths and even the occasional walleye. Took me a day or two to figure out that wanted a smaller (5" or smaller with spoons working good) presentation. My big lures got the attention of the fish (many follows) but nothing willing to bite. After my father pulled out the old trusty Evil Eye heavy caster, we started to put a good pattern together. Best lures on the trip were Evil Eye Heavycasters, Mepps Cyclopes, Lunge Lumber 6" (white & perch) and Phantom glide baits. We ended the trip with several pike over 35" and a Tiger musky at 35". We had a couple more tigers but they were all smaller guys mixed in with the smaller pike. Here some pics! (yeah.... I was working the bait SLOW ENOUGH for BULLHEAD to hit it!!!) This photo doesn't capture how LOUD my wife was screaming when she hooked the fish and got in the boat. A very proud moment for her! She lost another good fish earlier as well that I would have loved to have at least seen before it went deep and screamed off a bunch of line and threw the hook... Pike & Tiger population is in good shape for this lake's future! Bait fish size (look close - it's pretty small). Schools of these baits would boil on the surface in the mornings and you would see tigers/pike crashing through it - pretty cool to watch! I'd expect over the next week or two as the water temps crack that 60 degree mark on the lake for the fish to start responding to larger baits. We fished all over the lake from south to the middle bays to the north end flats and had had fish everywhere. Great time - biggest pike of the trip was 38" and biggest tiger was 35". Hope to get out there and do it all over again soon! Cheers , Chad

Conesus - NOT GOOD OPENER - What about others

Thanks for the info guys. Did any one catch what the lake surface temp was and how was the water clairity? [ Post made via iPhone ] -
Had a chance to fish with Mike, Jenelle and Joe on Otisco on Saturday for the opener and had a great time (as I always do fishing with them). This was only my third time ever fishing the lake - fished it a couple times back with my father and brother when we were really young. We had a good day overall that started with a couple walleye first thing in the morning. Water was really clear and surface temps were around 50 degrees on the main body with the north and south ends being a few degrees warmer. The fished seemed to be keyed in the more natural patterns that day (whites, blacks, etc.). Best lures for us were the Lunge Lumbers, Sledges, Phantoms. Our tubes and bucktails got little attention that day for some reason (kinda surprised me a little). We landed 2 walleyes, 8 tigers and 6 bass for the day. The 8 tigers is a little mis-leading cause 3-4 or those were small stocklings. Had a bunch more follows on the day including one beast that Jenelle had follow her 9" sledge - would have loved to have got some hooks in that one. The lake seems to be in fantastic shape and should only get better IMHO. I'll be fishing Conesus next weekend - looking forward to that! Cheers, Chad

Sounds good Zach! And if I had a wooden boat I'd carve it into the shape of a lunge lumber prowler with wooly bully feathers on back [ Post made via iPhone ] -

Thanks for the kind words bud. Glad u enjoyed the live updates. The tournament was a blast and VERY well run. Kudos to all the guys involved in putting that together. Despite not getting hooks into the fish we did see, I'm not to bothered by the fact we didn't hook up. I enjoyed the adventure start to finish and picked up some experience I'd otherwise never have got. Fishing within casting distance of guys like Thomas, Mullins and Kircher's was pretty cool. Mullins has one sweet boat!! I hope to maybe do the event again someday... [ Post made via iPhone ] -
