  1. My father is looking for a trailer for his 25ft pontoon boat. Let me know if you have one or a place to get one. Thanks Tim
  2. I did not find a website for the company however, if you google it you will see them on Bass pro and Cabelas site. I picked up a couple at bass pro and was wondering if anyone had any luck with them.
  3. Has anyone used the Fish Seeker Diver? It says that it will dive 80ft with only 120 ft of line. Have you had any luck using these? Does it cause any issues running a flaser behind it? Thanks in advance.
  4. While on vacation in December, my wife talked me into joing a vacation club (as part of the agreement, I get new electronics for the boat). The package we bought was a 43 year contract unlimited use and no restrictions to over 4000 locations around the world (all 50 states and 23 countries). As part of our package we can have other people (guest) use our membership. So I figured I would offer my membership on here. You will get access to VIP facilities and airport transportation (if needed) at no extra cost. AIRFARE NOT INCLUDED! Send me a PM, of location you want to go (IE Bahamas, Italy, florida (specifiy city if in US) and I will give you a complete listing of the resorts/hotels that are available. My prices are a lot less than you can find online or any travel agency. Example: Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas goes for $350-$800 per night and I can get you there for as low as $599 for 7 nights. I will give you all the details before you book, that way you will know there is no hidden fees and the exact cost of your reservation before you pay. If you interested let me know.
  5. Being in 30+ mph winds is stupid especially in winter while on a low profile boat. I have picked up numerous dead bodies while in the coast gaurd, so i think that I can speak based on past experience of what can and does happen in rough weather conditions. The only thing that saved their lives was the fact they were pushed up on the rocks. If it was in open water they would have died before they could swin back to shore. These 2 had more than an instant to make a call when they decided to lauch driving around to check out the breakwall to see if it was calm behind it. I too have fished seneca lake for 30+ years and have had mishaps from unexpected storms. But never have I attempted to go in 30+ mph winds in the middle of winter. The person who was telling me this is a member on this board and he has stated how stupid they were and that he was lucky to be alive especialy after being knocked out, cut up, and total back brusing. He decided to go with the other guy because he had a new boat and thought he had a vast knowledge of boating. Nope, he didn't just a pocket full of cash to buy the boat and no experience to run it. Yes I have put my boat into situations that most people would not such as being on Lake Ontario in 8-10ft waves. The difference is knowing how to handle a boat in those conditions. The reason they took on water in the first place was the fact they stayed abeem to the waves. The worst posible position in rough weather. As far as your point of not understanding "hardcore" late season duck hunters. I do understand that and the one who got knocked out, has killed numerous ducks off my dock on seneca lake. He knows he can hunt anytime he wants too off it.
  6. Has anyone heard about a duck boat that sunk but was recovered episode on monday? The story I got was some dumb a*& and his buddy (who told me) went out on Monday to hunt some ducks in the guy's brand new 21ft duck boat. I had asked him if that was the day the wind was like 50mph. He said yep, but his buddy told him they would be fine because they were going to go behind the break wall. while enroute they took a wave over the side. Once they got to the break wall and emptied their bowels in their pants, they relized that was stupid and they decided to go back to the launch (by clute park). Once they cleared the break wall on their way back the motor dies. They end up washing up on shore against the rocks. His buddy was pusing the nose back into the wind once they got the motor running just a a big wave hit the nose and flipped him onto the rocks knocking him out cold. Once he comes too, they decided that they would leave and get a boat to tow it back to the launch. They grabbed a 14 ft to tow it in on Tuesday. With the 21ft full of water it was a very difficult chore for this little engine but they made it back to the gas pumps at Erways. They decided to leave the 21ft one more day tired off to the dock and get it in the morning because it was dark. They left the biliage pump on to pump out the rest of the water over night. When they returned they wee a little surprised to see it under water only floating due to the floats under the seats. The were able to tow it to the launch and load it on the trailer. After the water emptied out, there was 3 huge holes in the bottom due to being smashed on the rocks. I guess this boat was only one month old at a tune of $40,000. As the saying goes just because you have money it doesn't take away stupid.
  7. I was just wondering if anyone has fished Catherine Creek lately? I used to fish there during the last week of the season many years ago and did well. If you have a report please shoot me a PM and let me know. Thanks. Tim
  8. I had all of my stuff stolen by kids in September as I had posted. I still have not heard anything from the police or the courts yet. I really think that when someone is in the process of stealing your stuff, it should be considered to be justifible homicide, or call it owner assisted suicide. that might work under the Obama care program..
  9. For those of you who are on the fence or thinking about this. DO IT. It was a great class. I took this class with Splitshot and a few others from the board. You cover a huge amount of information and you will feel like your not getting it or no way you will even pass the test. But the way Dennis has the class set and they way you learn there is no problems and you can bet you will get a 90% or higher on each of the 4 test. Like Scott said you'll have a chance to upgrade to your masters. Dennis and Big Bruce are funnier than heck and are more knowledgable than most coast gaurd coxswains. This was a great class and well worth the money and if you have half of a brain then you will do alright on the test.
  10. Get well soon elliot, your in our thought and prayers.
  11. I have not heard anything on the court or law enforcement end however, I did get a call from my father and he told me the little Fu@##$ struck again. This time the broke into a garage and stole a bunch of tools and power equipment. Love the justice system on the poor, oh wait it they are welfare who cares what they do to their neighbors. At some point they will have to hold the parents accountable. Maybe seeing they can not care for their children then maybe they should not have them.
  12. after speaking with the officer, nothing much will happen. I did have one parent that has stepped up and is extremely pissed off at his kid and what happened. He left a message that he whats to pay for the damage and the $1600 worth of missing items. I personally do not think that it is right for just one person who actually cares and probably cant afford the $1600 restitution to be held solely liable as there was 6 kids involved. He said that he wants to pay restitution and make his kid work off the value for me. I do not think that is a good idea either as that would give these kids and inside look of other stuff in the garage and house. As far as the restitution that will never be fully recovered as the rest of the family's are on welfare and do not care about anything other than their beer and drugs. As far as stealing their bikes, I don't think their bikes are theres as they have stolen them from someone else. One mother said about her 8yr old that he comes home with a different bike almost every day. Probably what will happen will be that these kids will be placed on probation. atleast that their parents will be looked at while they are on probation. spoke to the officer and he said they have been involved with these kids before and that no one has pressed charges cus of their are. I told him that I am pressing charges as it will create a trail for when they get older and continue their stealiing. Most of these kids do not have a chance in life. I was a drill instructor for many years in the school system (until they got rid of that program). Kids are a product of their enviroment. The enviroment at home will not change because of this and they will continue to do the samething. 2 of the kids helpped me find some of my stuff in the trees, holes, and brush plies where they hid it. I could tell they had no clue as to what they did or the fact that it was wrong. They were exciteds everything they found a rapala hanging on tree branches. Atleast they never found my electronics.
  13. I received a call yesterday from my parents (where I store my boat for the winter), that someone had broken into my boat and stole my equipment. They were notified by a lady who came to their house and wanted to let them no kids had taken stuff out of the boat but wanted to make she they knew her daughter was not part of it. To make a long story short, it was six 8-12yr olds who did it, in which live in the neighborhood. I got 90% of my stuff back. They took 7 tackle boxes, 2 tool boxes, 500 lures, 50 flies, 7 rods with reels, and everything that was not bolted down. The little crack kids even stole cannon balls, flares, dock lines, paper towels, baggies ect like I said if it was not bolted they took it. The cop was ok in dealing with this as he went to all 6 families homes and brought back equiptment from each home. These kids are from crack head, alcoholic, welfare families and the cop said you knew that there will be no restitution right. Which I knew that fact, when the mothers that I saw had 3 teeth combined. I informed the cop that I was charges pressed and he told me to itemize a list of the stuff missing and he would decide to either go into family court or youth court. Working in the court system in the past I knew that meant it depends on the value of the stuff still missing. <1000 basically really no charges and community service. I explained to the officer, I am a charter captain and this is not a bobber and worm typ fishing and the pile they brought back was almost $15,000. The cop called me back last night and wanted the pitures of the stuff stolen and the damage they did to the boat (forgot to mention that they kicked in a side door and busted a seat). They are pressing grand larcency charges. I spent 4 hours looking through the woods for my equipment. Found some of it, flare gun (shot twice) filet knife, and some spare parts. The feeling I got was that the police did not want to press charges because they are crack head alcoholic welfare families and really nothing would be done. I was pissed about that, specifically when one of the mothers told the officer that he son steals anything and comes home with a new bike all the time.
  14. Thanks for the replies, Borderline great comment on the center hole, never thought of that part. I am lucky though that I have drums and not spindles. I guess I will try the 4 1/2 common spacing on the used rims, if that don't work I can always take the tries off the rim and put them on my old ones ( had to do that in a Walmart parking lot in rochester at 1 am). Again thanks for the replies and comments, this is the reason why I tell everyone this site is the best for fishing and boating alike. Misty IV, I have taken consideration regarding the new axles and the fenders. These axles are off a mobile home and they have the side clamp style mounts (no center bolt pattern) for the rims. I think the rims and tires are 16" (not sure though). I figured I may have to re-configure the fender mounting brackets. Worst case I can always get solid 14" axles, which would be stronger than the C Channel original manufactured axles that came with it. I am assuming that these axles got bent during a spring time thaw and have gotten worse the last couple of years. I am guessing that when the trailer (with boat) was stored in the yard for the winter, the trailer tires were on a turn. When the thaw came it sank the tires into the ground causing them to bend. What would be your thoughts on that. The trailer has been parked on grass for all 25 years that it has been owned.
  15. WWIV, I can't take the spare to the yard as the trailer is in Oak Ochard about 3 hours away. thanks for the reply
  16. Just my 2 cents, I run 3-4 riggers all season. Mostly three but not by choice. It seems to be the year for my cannons to start crapping out. I was able to fix 2 of the old styles and then my new style broke. Don't want to tear that apart to void the warranty. I think you made the right decision to add the mount in the back and you can run a season, testing it out what works better. I would like to hear what your results are if running 3 works better.
  17. I have a 86 sealion trailer for my 25ft thompson. I have a bent axle and do not think the tires will make the trip home. I am replacing the axles this winter to a stronger set of axles. I want to get a pair of rims and tires from the junk yard to take with me in case of a blow out. They are a 5 bolt pattern with a 14" tire. I can not believe that these axles are a C channel with the spindles welded to them (from factory). I am replacing them with mobile home axels (that will support the weight). Does anyone know what Vehicle make would fit that bolt pattern (ford, chevy). Thanks in advance for your replies. Tim
  18. I did receive an email from the factory ( I have not contacted them yet). basically he said that, they have an exchange program at the factory for the Mag 10's and digitrol 2's. Alll other motors have not changed and parts are available. I will contact them when I get back from vacation and will advise you what thier exchange program. My therory on the the evolution to the new style motor. They are a lot faster. But, what is preventing a company (im not saying Cannon is doing this) changing a design and then voiding the warranty every 5 years? I find it funny that the Cannon service center han retro fit the new style motors to the new ones.. From what I understand, you need to change the wheel shaft, and turn gear, but I could be wrong.. I will keep you posted.
  19. xbdcx, That is my plan exactly over the winter. I have a great local repair guy here and if it is a DC motor he can repair it. I took my trim/tilt motor to him a couple of years ago and he repaired like new for $20. It just did not sit well with me that their warranty states that electric motors are covered 100%. But then they changed that to 25% off. I have been a Cannon Downrigger for over 25 years. I guess it is time to go with Scotty Down Rigger
  20. Buyer be aware. I spoke to cannon about how all of my downriggers are having issues (new ones and old ones). I have a total of 8 mag 20's and digitrol and only one new style mag 20 that does not have an issue. I called to ask about the life time warranty on the riggers. The guy I spoke with that all the electric motors carry a lifetime warranty. I explained to him that several of them are the old style motors and when I sent one to Fish 307 to have repaired I was told that the motor was bad. Due to that motor no longer being made, I would have to have the rigger retro fitted to fit the new style motor and was quoted a $700 price tag. He put me on hold to speak to "his repair guy, Rick". When he came back on the phone he said they no longer make that style motor and that they do not do the retro fits for the new style. I asked how is it that they offer a lifetime motor and because the change the style of the motor I am out of luck. He state, well rick said that we can give you 25% your next order. I told him that I am declining his offer of 25% off, as I have no intention of buy anymore cannon products. I sent an email to the corporate office asking for an explination as to why the no longer stand behind their warranty and because they change their motor style my warranty was replaced with 25% off my next purchase.

Set out around 5:30 and setup in 180 fow. Got all 4 rods in the water and the rigger popped with a nice 8# steelie. Got that one reset and fired again after 5 minutes with another steelie. then the rods started to fire. Lost a nice big steelie at the back of the boat. My fault, this steelie felt the net and jump, I netted the downrigger ball. He smashed into the back of the boat and dropped down in the prop and cut the line. Most of out action was between 6-8:30 and then shut down. Around 10 a rigger popped but because of the fleas the cheater could not slid down the line even with a nice big steelie on and the hook came out. then one other release. We knew it was going to be hot and the wind died down, so we decided to pull rods and call it a day.
  22. Thanks for all the replies. The boat idle fine at all times however it chugged like it was starving for fuel when underway and picked its own time to start chucking (meaning 1/2 throttle to full throttle). It was a Ball Valve in the carb. He was only getting gas from the marina for the last 3 years and didn't have a water/fuel separator. The marina that was working (remove and replace and charging high prices troubleshooting) on his boat near sandy pond area, told him that boats are having fuel related issues because of the ethonal mixture in today's fuel. anyone heard of this? I told him it was another way to get him to buy the additives and my boat has never had a problem. Thanks again you guys are great. Tim

Had a few guys from the sounthern tier call me and wanted to go fishing. After getting some tips from Carl Bish (Salmo) we headed to the oak. It was a great day. First fish of the morning was a nice 24# taken on a Blue Jackle fly. We had few releases and caught a few cohos and small kings for several hours mostly a slow pick. Then about 12:30 all heck broke loose. We had doubles, triples, then get reset and off they went again. Two different times had doubles on the same rod with the cheater. we lost some nice big fish, one broke the hook off a new lure. had one king smoking the reel, heading to Canada and all of the sudden the rod shattered. Ending up breaking off 5 lures through out the day. Great day to be out.
