Cold water... Nuff said there. Had to ride around Sat till I found a warm pocket. As soon as I did the rods fire . Hits on every thing I had down Fishlander sharks, grapedot watermellon, dalmation hammer fly.I want it back, and good ole wonderbread. Had one over 30 but it was to late to enter, 7thirty when it hit the net. Found the fish in 80 FOW. I didnt get on the water till 2 in the afternoon.I drove over fish to go find fish..... Sunday headed to the same waypoint. Plucked 4 salmon right off the bat then rode around the rest of the day for one more. All and all I just give it a OK. for the weekend. I was tough to put on a hooded sweatshirt Sat afternoon when all the landlubbers were sweating. The cold air felt good for awhile but it got to cold when the wind kicked up.Its amazing all that cold water moved in,more amazing it was gone the next day. First you have to find some fish, then glow seems to work the best. Watermellon seemed to do some damage also.120 on the divers,30 to 50 on the riggers. I got some new prototype dodgers from optimiser to try. Havent caught a fish on them yet . I havent really figured them out. They look good in the water and they have holes in them to make bubbles.I didnt really have the right colors I needed. If I get em going I put up some pictures. They just want some feedback.Ive awalys been a fan of optimiser spoons. Its the same outfit that makes honeybee spoons.A oldtimers favorite.....

Sometime this winter I am going to upgrade my GPS Plotter.I want color. I want a Furuno But garmin is much cheaper and seems to do the same thing. My question is on the G2 garmin charts. The ones that show the underwater detail in 3D. There is a lot of GPS info and im trying to digest it. Are the charts as good as they say? They are around 300 bucks just for the chart. Not so much for LO but they would be great for the fingerlakes. I have been known to fish a few humps and bumps in LO though. If anyone has any good or bad plotter info lets get a discussion going here. I now have a Raychart 425 that wont show track.I also use a Furuno GP37 for track but the screens to small. I fish with a guy that uses a Lowrance 4200c that seems to be a good unit. Another guy I fish with has a northstar. Good unit but he sent it back twice[fixed for free]. I have not ruled out Lowrance, only thing I dont like is the writeing on the screen is so small its hard for me to see. I am not going to spend more than 1k closer to 500 is my price range. Ive been checking Ebay . Lots and lots of GPS stuff there.

Hughes report
Fishstix replied to Fishstix's topic in New York Fishing Reports - Lake Ontario (South Shore)
I have been storing my boat there on the trailer for yrs. I have a campsite there . I help pull and set docks. Do what ever needs to be done around there to keep the campground going. I get a season launch and pay by the nite when my boat is in the water. I dont really know what she charges to keep a boat there. You will have to ask Cecil. BTW I talked to a some guys fishing up there this morn. and they had just done a tripple on kings .So their back. -
Sat was a blow off day. Sunday was a skunk for most boats including mine. Marked very few fish. Bait was nonexistent. After reading the other posts we should have headed east or west. Your gonna have days like this. A blue screen day.

I heard a guy had a nice rainbow. You didnt miss much by not going up to LO. Slow bite in our area of the lake. Hughes.

Purple ,purple . Then more purple. It must be the water there. Try a black.purple optimiser sometime. If you cant find one look me up. Ill be there weekends. First row of boats on the left. White Arima w/ Yamaha. -
http://www.abes-tackle-box.com/ I think we all check out the same sites Abe had a good reports but the server went down and he hasent really got it going again. LOU is definately my favorite I probably check it 3 times a day. I really dont pay much attention to weather predictions. I do keep my eyes open on the big pond though. Ill check out At the Oak a couple times a week , there is some good info to be found there.

Thanks thats a nice little report from my home port. -
Not a great weekend but a good weekend. Had the dropsies. Those kings mouths are getting hard and its really hard to get a solid hookset. My flybite is still off I probabky didnt give a dodgerfly an hours worth of running time.Fished spoons both days.Temp was high . 47 down 39ft. Water was clear and cold. Sat was a glow spoon day. Sunday glows would not fire it turned into a grape dot watermellon day.I fished less than 200FOW some went deeper and caught fish 600 FOW was mentioned alot.LOC starts FRI. I had one king probably 25lbs . and a brn around 13. Various other smaller kings. I caught a king on the wire dipsey with 80 feet of wire out . My closest to the boat yet. I also almost got spooled with a tekota 500lc w/30 lb test. Had to turn the boat around to get the fish . They dont hold enough line 20lb test is fine but 30 pushes the limit.

You having one more birthday or one less? Your right Sluggo he does look older in the pictures.

They look like a house fly. But they're ANKLENIPPERS.
Fishstix replied to Fishstix's topic in Open Lake Discussion
Do they originate in the boat or do they come out of the water?I know when my boat is clean they really chew on you. When my boat is dirty with fish blood and slime around they dont seem to bother as bad. I figure the slime and blood gives em something to do. -
I had a great time fishing the first annual derby. Hope to make a better showing next year. We were off a little bit on our lures but maybe next year Ill get in a little prefishing. Great bunch of folks. It was fun to fish back at the fingers again. Thanks Chaos for hosting . BTW my email adress is [email protected] if any one has any photos to share.

While riding around LO Sunday waiting for a rod to fire I took the time to get a close photo of one of these things. They usually show up when you are reeling in a salmon, it triggers feeding time and they drill your ankles. Bug spray is cocktail sauce for these buggers. Kill one and 10 show up for the funeral.

One more thing to add ..Holy Mackerel keeps track of all fish caught on his boat . Landed his 399th salmon this weekend . Thats a this year only total. Already doubled last years totol. Not bad for a weekend warrior. Fishing been pretty dam good. -
I dont know how far down you were fishing but the two lakers should have told you temp was high. Yea we all have bad days. Its part of the challenge. I fish the south shore of LO andswe had more of a NE wind Sunday it slowed the fishing alot. Our Honeyholes from SAT were empty and we basically had to ride around till we hit a fish then ride around some more. Catching fish for a first timer is excellent but you still have to put your time in. Yea down speed and temp is important but its only part of the whole puzzle. A puzzle I hope I never put completely together.

Split shot. They are not spoons and they are not flies. And they are not yellow....Wellll almost but not quite. If you see Sea Dog tell him he missed a bloodbath on LO last weekend. Hermit get ahold of me ... Let me know where you want to launch.and what time.
-
Fished with the Holy Mackerel both Sat and Sun. Had one of those Sat morns that you dont have very often. Kings ,kings and more kings, Limited out by noon several over 25. Pictures to follow if I can get my camera program reloaded. 90 Fow around 40 down. NBK"s . green glow dodger flies. basically every rod was taking fish.Sunday was a different story.4 fish Sunday and we worked hard for em. Good ole Lake O.

Hermit Ill be at the launch at long point 6am. If this works out for you OK let me know. We could also launch out of deans cove if it works out better. It really makes no difference to me. Just let me know what you want to do. BTW the "network" came thru with some really new top secrete stuff. We will have to run a little slower than I want but its gaurenteed to load the fishbox. So Hermit start working on the speech[not to long please]It looks like NO Promises is backing out.So its up to you and me.

another wire question?
Fishstix replied to salmonite's topic in Questions About Trout & Salmon Trolling?
TB dont be in a big hurry to get your wire setup in the water. Be sure to do the 1lb weight dragged thru the water to make sure the line is on tight enough. Also learn the knot mentioned above as you will find the wire has a tendency to pigatail on the ends and you will want to cut it off and retie. Something that is a pain to do with crimps. Ive lost tackel to crimps, never lost any to the knot. Personally I run 1000ft of 30lb test mason wire. Its all Ive ever ran and really know nothing about the other mfg. Ive never ran backing.I use a 9ft leader between the dipsey and whatever Im pulling behind it.My leaders are 30lb test ande line.[im running 10ft roller rods] As in every new endever there is a learning curve. Put in the time and you will do alright. -
I switched to the roller tips on my wire rigs. After years of flea plugged twilly tips . Bringing in a wire covered with a flea rope is a breeze. The rollers just saw right thru the fleas. Im thinking I may try the roller tips on my mono rods. If it works and the rollers cut the fleas off as Im reeling it in I may be on to something really big here.Really big. Any one else been messing with this stuff?

Wow the" Dalmation " made the board. Same story down our way but we werent marking the bait or fish down that deep.White or glow spoons were the semi hot ticket. They are nice pictures of fresh fish. Ones we caught were semi black already. Best description I heard was a 20lb plus salmon that came in like a bullhead. Also we had lots of lampreys. I hope that water blows out this week.
