  1. AHHHHH sounds like Chaos is getting serious on this fishing derby stuff.

    My suggestions

    Line.. 30lb wire 1000ft

    rod.. blue diamond 10ft roller

    reel... Tekota 600lc

    rodholders... Berts

There are other ones out there that work just fine. But for me this seems to be the best.I basically use my dipseyrods as much as I use my downriggers. So they get lots of action. For years I ran penn 330 reels and diawa rods . I used a clip on the rod linecounter.I usually start with 300fett of wire out and go from there. Thats a lot of winching. I used to lose a lot of gear the first few yrs of wire fishing. Now ive got the tackle loss under control.Better knots, smoother drags etc.

Chaos before you go much further Ill take you out fishing in my boat and show you what works for me.Early spring fishing will probably be my only fingerlake fishing. with the exception of your derby. Ill probably skip the memorial derby on Seneca.

  2. Im in the 2% area. Awalys will be. The notorious WILDMAN got a campsite next to me this year. It should be a riot.Great water ,a few less fish, lots fewer people. Lots of big fish caught there everyyear. I hope its my turn this year during a derby.

  3. I guess I wont have any pictures or be able to finish my thread. My computer with photoshop and all the goodies is broke again.Im in no real hurry to get it fixed either. A little progress report . Ive got the fixed bracket temporally mounted.I have to remove it to caulk it up as its to cold for caulk now. The measurement from the top of the bracket to the waterline is 24" That means I need a long shaft kicker. It puts my cavation plate 1" below the surface. My throttle and shift cables are 18ft. The dealer says measure the length and add 3ft. for gradual loops. I will also be adding a hour meter. Its supposed to be a easy add in .Yellow wire in the harness to the meter ,then back to ground.

  4. Yea we tried to get some trash talk going . It was just in fun though.I suggest the best legal one man limit per boat. Wins period. No difference between how many are in the boat or how you fish. troll. jig. bait. etc. I havent looked in a couple years but I think its 5 fish ,3 lakers plus 2 trout or salmon .Someone please correct me if im wrong.

Also some type of time period daylight till say 2 PM Weigh in at 3 PM .One day would be enough for me also. I can aways make Sundays but Saturdays are aways questionable.

Keeping it simple and having fun is the object.

    Just a suggestion for a one man limit.{that I think is 5 fish}

    Each Laker =2pts

    Largest laker of day =4pts

    Each Brn trout= 3pts

    largest brn of day =4pts

    Each LLock = 4 pts

    largest of day = 5pts

    Each Rainbow=5pts

Say you catch 3 lakers and one is largest of the day your total would be 10 pts. You get 2 pts for each fish plus 4 bonus points.

It would work the same way for all the species of fish.

Of course all fish would have to be legal size.

You would not need all 5 fish to be elligable to win.

Highest score wins all. In the event of a tie the freshest looking, best kept catch wins.

  5. JD Im not getting any younger and the fishing probably wont get any better.I made the plunge a couple yrs ago and took out a 2nd mortgage on the house.I seen the Islander back against the wall 30k. It seems like yesterday they were 19k. The Trophy's were over 30 also.

  6. I am planning on mounting a new HT8 hp Yamaha on my boat.

I am going to do a picture as I go series . Just to let people know

of mistakes that can be made trying to make this work properly.

I am going to use a fixed mount bracket that I ordered from the

left coast. In other boats Ive had those spring up hinged contraptions

I had a guy cut his finger off trying to get the motor up.[No Stinger I dont have pictures of that]. The new motor I am installing has power tilt.

I have to get the bracket mounted so I can measure and see if I need

a long or extra long shaft. Also I will be setting it up for remote control.

    First mistake....

My boat came from the factory with four bolts in the back for mounting

the kicker bracket.I got online and found the dimensions and pictures for

a fixed mount kicker bracket.I got the aluminum cut . I was going to take it and get it welded and just for the hell of it I held the pieces up to

the bracket holes and it would not fit.TOO SMALL OF MOUNTING PLATE.

I did not realize that there are different size bolt patterns for different

    kicker brackets.

    1st mistake $120 bucks,dam aluminum's high

Fixed mount bracket welded and powdercoated,$326 delivered to my door.

    Pictures coming soon.

Any one who wants to add, jab or ask questions please feel free to.

This is supposed to be a fun thing.

  7. Im changing insurance companies right now . Going with progressive. I have to list all my equipment on the boat for the deductible.Ive got a box in the cuddy with unopened spoons and stickbaits. Its probably 12" by 14" by 6" high Its overflowing now Ive got about 3 dozen new spoons to add to it.This dodger fly kick Ive been on has added a whole new dimension to tackle inventory.

  8. Is anyone comming down this way from the Clayton area in the next couple weeks? Im in the process of purchaseing a 8hp outboard from Clayton Marine. If it could be arranged ,If someone was up that way and could pick it up for me Im sure we could get something together.I have not paid for or 100% committed for the motor yet but Im 99% sure the deal is going to fly.My only time to get up there is a Sat or Sun. I figure it would take me all day to drive up and back.If someones interested ,let me know...

A couple fall fishing pictures That stinger took of my boat. It was interesting to me the spread I got with the long rods. The pictures came out smaller than I expected. So you cant really see much.

  10. I just replaced 4 perfectly good line counter fishing reels with 4 new line counter fishing reels.Ive been out shopping for rods but the one I picked out I could not find. Yea you guessed it . I had one in the boat already. I now have 2 extre magdas and 2 extra sealine reels. That I will make some fisherman with a family happy with this summer. Now I try to be somewhat fruggle with my money but that adds up to $400 bucks . The reels I took off were all spooled with fresh line.

I guees Ill have to get a fix at Gander Mtn.

  11. Ill tell you how.

Rule number 27. Sponsors and immediate family are

    not elligable for prizes.

Jeez I can see it now . She will be going into bass pro

while you go into Jo Ann fabric......

  12. Shortly I will be adding a kicker motor. Im going with a Yamaha.Ht8 or a Ht9.9 . My question is amps. The 8 puts out 6 amps the 9.9 puts out 10 amps.Im thinking the 6 amps should be enough. I do have dual batteries w/selector switch. But a also run a lot of stuff in the boat and the last thing I would want is a dead battery in the middle of the lake.XM radio,VHF radio,gps,chartplotter,fishfinder,4 down riggers. Any opinions out there?

BTW the 8 hp is quite a bit cheaper.Just a few pounds lighter.
