  1. Anyone using these? How do you like them.

They are supposed to be the fastest on the market. I may be replacing one of my riggers . I have a couple real old Big Jons that look just like the new speed riggers . I have no idea how old my riggers are I have never seen a set like them. I bought them used probably 15 yrs ago.

Ive got a couple Capt. packs new and they dont even compare to the speed and power of my old riggers.

  2. Ive got a couple real old Big Jon electrics. They look Like the new speed riggers Big Jon makes. One of the motors is getting tired. Anyone got a motor?Ive got a couple new big Jon Capt. Packs that I took off that came with the boat. I like the old riggers much better.Im keeping the new riggers for parts if someone needs something.

  3. I run a otter off one side and a regular planer board off the other.Only reason for this is as soon as I lose my last planer board Ill replace it with a otter.Ive had this setup for years so Ive had a great comparson. Overall I think I catch more fish off the otter it seems to slow down and speed up when you get the draw strings adjusted right.Ive never dove the otterboard.I have had the front drawstring break and had the otter scoot around the back of the boat and get into the other planerboard.[mother of all tangleups]The tow angle of the otterboards is very crucial. Get it just right and they will just scoot almost pass the boat sometimes. Get it wrong and they turn in at slow speeds drag in hard or trail back from the boat.I dont remember what the proper angle length is but I spent a afternoon trial and error getting mine just right 1/4 inch adjustments make a hell of a difference. Also you need a ring or something to catch the releices on the end of your towline so they dont slide down to the otterboat angular towlines . Yea I think the otters are worth it they are just some messing around to get them tracking right.

  4. Fished in a small private derby out of Sodus this weekend. Lake was bumpy on Fri. But did the brown bite make it worthwhile. It was to rough to run boards on Fri but we did anyway . So windy it would blow the releises back up the planerboard lines to the boat.Planerboards were out of the water when the crested the waves. I could not watch them just knowing one was going to flip or dive. But neither one did. Im not a big stickbait fan but it is spring time brn fishing. Did 15 to 20 brns. hooks were bent up and twisted .I didnt really feel like changing them in those rough conditions. So I wasnt really ready when the one big derby winning fish hit. Yea I lost him .Hooks pulled.

Sat we went for a long boatride before we found fish. The water that was fish rich the day before was fishless. Finally got into them after about a 3hr boatride . Did 10 to 15 brns. When we got off the water Sat afternoon the lake was flat and the sun was shining.

Chartruse was best stickbait color. I didnt place any fish in the berby.Biggest brn in the derby was around 9lbs. A around 15lb king took the lunker. A few steelies were weighted in also. Most all the brns I caught were 3 to 5 lbs.

Glad to see the brn trout back in force. last year they were a little scarce in our area.I would imagine next yrs crop will be some real biggies.

Maybe next time Ill get a big one to the net.

  5. Ive had 4whl drives for years. I use the 4 wheel drive almost daily. I have been hooked on Tundras since 2000 when they came out Im on my 2nd one. However they are all gas hogs. Im getting tired of crazy gas bills . Now they have made the Tundras full size. Im thinking my next one is going to be a 2 wheel drive ,and just walk more. Very rarely do I need the 4wheel drive to launch.Ill probably downsize to Tacoma w/6. Just tow a little slower. Probably double the gas mileage overall.Im used to the tail wagging the dog.My log truck gets just 4mpg so you can imagine my fuel costs are crazy.

  6. 2 tekota 500lc's

    Yamaha HT8 kicker

    Restocked my optimisers.

I itemized most everything and got good boat insurance.

1/2 tank of gas . I think price is going down.

    1 new boat battery

Hope to splast test on big pond tomorrow or Friday.

I got a good icecutter keel and marine snowbrush from LOU.com.

  7. My mother ,who is pushing 80 had a story the other day. She came from a family of 13 children .When her youngest brother was born 1935 there was such a snowstorm the doctor could not get to their house for 3 days. His birthdate was Apr 15th. This is the souther tier of NY. Town of Lounsberry.Said when the doctor did get there it was only by horse.I guess a storm like that could happen again.

I am still having problems with my computer . How ever I can still throw up a couple images of my completed installation. This is one of those fixed brackets I mentioned.Must be mounted back so the motor can tilt foward and not hit back of boat or damage cables,Needs room to turn with those cables back there also.

I spent a weekend figureing out a steering link. I wanted one that hooked to the front of the motors that I could just put on and take off easily.Had troubles with the angles. Turning to the right with the kicker so far back it almost made a straight pull on the kicker motor. So I ended up hooking the link to the extreme right hand side of the kicker. I also drilled and tapped the lower housing on the big motor. The circles on photo are steering link hookup points. Steers to the right as well to the left perfictly now.

Looking at it now I probably should have taken a picture with the steering link installed.I ran this setup 3 hrs last Sunday. My voltmeter seemd to stay up ok ,It ran well off the autopilot. I had to lengthen the downrigger arm to get it between the motors,Its going to be a pain but it will work. So far Im happy with this setup.Time will tell.

  9. Dual , I run two depthfinders . one to track bottom 200khz and the other zoomed into the range im fishing 50khz.It gives me a big screen to watch.

If I was shopping for a new unit I would order a separate transducer to get as wide a cone angle as I could get.
