I do know a couple of guys that have run the bigger ones, and the traditional style renosky's....but I haven't much this year... John

    dunkirk 7/6

Overnight t storms were long gone...started out with an offshore wind, barely capping...that laid down nice for the balance of the morning...but man was it rolling by 2 pm. We ended up 5 miles east of the harbor, so we had to come right at 'em....at least I don't need to wash off the boat! We did 8 nice walleye, and probably another 20 sheepshead, perch, white perch and silver bass, before it got rough. 4 on the 55/60 riggers..popping the rods... WD Buffalo Bill and copper watermelon. 50-60 feet back of the ball. 2 on perch chattersticks 145 big slide diver; 1 on a 40 jet, perch chatter 165 back and 1 on a small slide off the boards, 175 back. John
  3. I've been buying mine at Bill's Hooks, on Route 5 just west of Dunkirk.....they are like $6 a pop, and crap for paint quality...but they work! John

    dunkirk 7/5

Well, mother nature finally let off after 3 days of winds. We had a couple hours, so decided to take a peak with my 8 yr old son....ended up going 4/4 on the walleye in just over and hour and a half. Generally seemed good across the board today. Dreamweaver WD "Buffalo Bill" on the 55 rigger; perch chattersticks on the divers. 140 back on 3. Weather permitting...back out in the morning.... John
  5. JGrenier: Read your post, and recognize that you specifically mentioned salmon. Capt. Paul would be a great choice. On Lake Erie, there are a number of us (me included) that will explain exactly what we're doing and why, and let you be as hands on as we can. Not specifically a "learning" charter, but you will learn a lot. In my experience, and from those that I know, most captains do teach you as you go, just via the conversations/questions that go on during the trips.... John

    dunkirk 6/28

Tough bite for most today, especially before noon. We ended up boxing 5, and lost at least that many, plus 5 huge perch. Marked lots of bait and fish, 60-65 fow. Little bit of everything today, although the chatterstick was the common thread... ...got one on WD Alibi spoon; 50 foot rigger; 3 on blue chattersticks on 5 color; 1 on a silver chatter, 115 back on the big slide. Strong offshore wind today, but almost perfect wave conditions... John

    Dunkirk 6/27

Got out today with one of my regular crew, Capt. Bud (Alibi) and my brother Lukas who was in from Kentucky. Picked 2 up right of the bat....ended up boating 4 more out of about 8 we had on. Slow, steady bite. 40 jets, chattersticks on 106 was our pad setup.....60 fow, west. John
  8. Yes, sorry about that. It was 110 feet back on the diver, and 170 back on the board lines. John
  9. Headed out today with a couple of friends. Didn't get going until after 8...one guy didn't get out of work until then...fished until 11:45. We did fair, plus a couple of jack perch. 110 diver with silver chattersticks. 170 power pro board lines with 20 jets and harnesses. Heard a good report using 40 jets. West of the harbor.... Anyone that is interested can get my blog (www.timestwocharters.com) emailed to them directly when I post (thanks Chad!!). Go to my site, blogs, instructions are on there. Back out Sat/Sun..... John
  10. W.W.IV. Thanks. I run bags when trolling. I should clarify....I meant that it seems to roll more when under power in rough water....like if you're coming in the troughs. My last boat was the same size, but not a hard top, and not as deep a vee...... JOhn
  11. I was in the search mode about a year and half ago or so. I narrowed by choices to a Pro-line, Seaswirl, Parker and Sportcraft. Utimately settled on the 'swirl...which I have been very happy with. It has the "t-top" style hardtop, as opposed to a full blown regular hardtop like the sportcraft would have had. Would have loved a Parker but couldn't find anything used that wasn't salt use, then got a great deal on the 'swirl as a new "leftover". The only real thing I had problems with was adjusting to the extra "roll" the hardtop seems to add in rough seas...but we're working on that! John
  12. Ray....don't feel to bad....lots of good fisherman didn't get very many the last week or so.... The good news....I got several reports today that things improved yesterday...and 1 report of a guy with 10 out of Dunkirk. Very reliable source...but is one here, one there, out all day.... I still think we need about another warm week and 5 degrees on the water....! Draggin....that's for the post...glad you like the blog...hoping to be very active with that in the next few weeks. I'm happy to share! John

  14. PizzaBoy: Good Luck! The road into Hartley Bay is mostly gravel , mostly good. They got 700K to make improvements, so there are a couple of spots under construction. Hartley Bay guys are nice, and will give you the straight scoop. I get to do lots of great fishing each year....as work permits from S. Carolina to French River. French River is by far my favorite place!! Please post a report on how you do,,,, John
  15. Ray....my team opted not to fish the southtowns, but we'll be around and out. Feel free to pass on any info, though...we go for reel on the 28th! My friend Capt Bud (Alibi) is going to be in Barcelona for the week, so that should give us a pretty good idea of what's coming! E dock, Ray.
  16. Ray...all is quite here..... Took a shakedown Sunday....55 fow straight out...60 on the surface, 53 30 foot down By all accounts, if you had 1-2 fish you did well. I know a couple of other capts. that ran this weekend...I heard 1 had 3, 1 had none. Its just a tad early and we need a couple of days of heat....come on Mother Nature...!! My pal Bud is going to be in Barcelona for the next week, so I should be able to get some reports off that..... Also, I intend to post regularly again here....but there is a way off my new site to get via email any blogs I put up too.... check that out at www.timestwocharters.com I have had a couple of you guys email me that last week or so...keep that coming... I have no issue helping out if I can.... John
  17. Pizzaboy: We did not run the rapids. River was high enough too, but why bother? We had awesome fishing right where we were. Pretty much every area we went to we got fish. Particularly Crombie Bay, but the water was way up, and dropped about 6 inches while we were there, and I would guess more by now. Imp size Daredevles, red and white, by far the number 1 bait. 8-10 fow. Really just hit any place that has an weeds/structure..... We haven't done so in years, but we had such a great time we're thinking about going back in September once I'm done chartering here.... John
  18. If I'm not mistaken, the rules are phasing in....and don't affect most boaters until September. The other curious piece....I got 4 different answers so far....is does that fact Ihave a Coast Guard License here, override the need to take the test???
  19. Ray....just got back from northern ontario....but.... according to the local paper, guys at night west have been doing good, and I talked to another dunkirk captain today that said he had heard of a good day catch over the weekend. The LO boys are all coming back this way the next few days, and I'm dropping in this weekend, so I would suspect that I'll have better information soon.... John
  20. Well, just back from our annual pike fishing trip to Northern Ontario. Wow! Our group of 6 landed 380 northerns in 3.5 days of fishing..nothing super big, but we had 49 over 22" long, and 4 or 5 in the 7-8" range. The average size was probably 19-20". Stayed again at the French River Lodge on the lower river. Now, weather permitting....time to get the big boat in the slip for walleye this weekend! John
  21. There is a 25' Cobia on this site.....Boat needs some tlc but I think its basically sound.....
  22. Ramrod....not sure what you are looking for, but I know where there is a 1989 26' Cobia....and also a 340 Sea Ray...... the dunkirk area.. if you want the contact information...let me know.... _________________ Capt. John Forbes Times Two Charters
  23. Okay, fellow LOU members and country music fans....here's the skinny.... As I mentioned in a post a week or two back, I have a friend named Sean Patrick McGraw who has been working hard for years to make it in the world of country music. As I posted, he has a video now on CMT, called "Dollar Ain't Worth a Dime". Supposed to air on TV on Monday (5/18) but it has been released on the internet side.... http://www.cmt.com/videos/sean-patrick- ... dime.jhtml As I understand it, it greatly helps him with this song ,and for the future if we get everyone clicking and playing it! So if you would like to check it out, please go to the link and give it a shot! John
  24. Times Two....out.... Something called work is getting in the way! Maybe next time...
