On the way home from the Oak yesterday we stopped at the Indian Reservation by the Catt....dropped it to $2.34 about an hour before we got there according to the attended. Otherwise 2.83 local.

Thanks for trying to convince me Tom! We've gone up there before and like the matinee show so there is no rush at dinner...we're staying that night so I can't swing your way!! Found a good looking place for breakfast on the way out of town but still looking for that dinner place. There are a couple near the DC that we've eaten at before. but I hate to repeat. Traded her time at the Eaton Centre for Bass Pro Shops the next day too!

Thanks for the suggestions...I've been scouring the net for a place....we've stayed at the delta chelsea before and eaten at a couple of places on Elm st...which were good...just looking for something else. I can't believe some of the prices at those steak houses! I can almost get the whole loin here at the local meat shop! Fishinman....love your idea...'cept we have a matinee show! Suggested that it might be cool if we took the long way home and hit the bass pro shop in Vaugh Mills on the way back....She agreed to that :))!

I had been running fishlanders for 3-4 years, upgraded in the spring to include new triple holders and a new fishlander mast.....then they went out of business! Was very happy with them (rigs like Big Jon's) and liked the adjustable rod holders.... Hoping the come back....but not looking good.....

Well...got moving early today and decided to take one more shot with the boat off the mouth of Canadaway Creek, just west of Dunkirk. Still dark when I set the first lines, and got to watch the sun rise over a calm lake. I remarked again to my wife today that I think it was the calmest morning of the season! Fished in there until 10:00 and decided to take one last run around before pulling the boat for the year. Never moved a rod, although the glow spoons seemed to draw the attention of a couple of gulls. Talked to the other boat that was in there at the ramp. He only did 1 bass. There are steelies in pockets in the creek...but there is NO water to get them moving. John

Well, kept the boat in for 1 more week.... Took a shot sat a.m. with my son off Canadaway Creek (about 2 miles west of Dunkirk) looking for some steelhead. Trolled for about 1.5 hrs in 15-30 fow...just smallmouth. Did get out until 10.... Today, hit 60 fow with a friend of mine...great picture no takers....trolled out as far as 125 fow....you honestly would not believe the bait and fish on the screen....never moved a rod. Only 2 other boats out...talked to 1 of those, he had 1 walleye for the morning.. SO, in the a.m. I hitting the lake at the crack of dawn to try that nearshore again...then SADLY, will pull the boat. I told my wife the best 2 weekends we had all year were Labor Day and Columbus Day...... John

Ray...i feel your pain...is it really pain? I always have to laugh to myself when the post appear every year.."How may rods/reels do you have?" and posts like that.....as I sit here looking at the specs for a new fly rod....... At least she doesn't ask "what's in the this box?"

Ray: Everyone has their own opinions....but here's my 2 cents. Overall, June and July were really pretty good, as was the first part of September. August was a tougher bite, as was the last couple of weeks. I think the bait was a huge factor, as we saw tons more bait consistently this year then I recall over the last couple of years, and we had many walleye spitting up minnows in the box, or that had full fat bellies. I also think weather played a part, as it seemed most weekends when we were running were windy and rough. That reduced our abililty in some cases to get the full spread out. Plus the rocking of the boat causes the lures to run different too. We've had some great late September/early october fishing the last few years, but that's been on a calm lake. Basically most of the last 10 days was rough until yesterday, and she's rocking from the NE again already today. It was a fun year no matter what...the new boat has been great, and as usually lots of laughs and stories to remember from the summer. We too got our share of walleye dinners in, and I have a couple of chunks of steelhead ready for the smoker. Really, how can I complain about all that? So, we pick the first good day next weekend, get her out of the water and ready for bed......then its time to break out the floats and waders, and to start pouring over the catalogs to see what I need to order for next year! Ray...I enjoy posting on LOU, and pretty much now its the only place I put my fishing reports, since Chad linked it thru to my website. I hope that the information at least pointed you in the right direction..... Bud and I are already signed up for Lockport, and looks like we'll be at Hamburg too! The wife's been looking at the "extras" in the garage, so I think its time to make a list and see if anyone needs some of my unused stuff! Get your cash ready Ray! John

Well...cold start today..42 when I got to the boat at 6:45. Started inside...60 fow...looked pretty good...some hooks, lots of bait again. Took a 4lb smallmouth that did its best to imitate a young steelhead. One more little smallie. Moved out...good marks bottom 20ft in 100fow, but never moved a rod. I remarked to my crew.."I can't believe the walleye just left!". Talked at the dock to my brother in law. He stayed around 100 foot the whole morning...never moved a rod. One more weekend and I guess we call it a season and get on the creeks! John

Ray: That's kind of how its been the last month or so...lots of bait. Difference lately is I haven't seen as many fish on the bait as Labor Day weekend..'cept for what I saw offshore yesterday. Also got to see the wind farm across the lake! For what its worth, one of the walleye I got yesterday spit up a bunch of newly swallowed bait, which matched pretty close in size to the chattersticks I ran. The other neat thing...I've seen this on LO, but not here...was that I was watching the furuno, and noticed that my DR went from 1.8 to 1.4, then to 2.6....fish on! John

Well, got up this morning as usual prepared to go to work....looked at the forecast, then looked out the window at the lake......definitely time for a ME day!! So off I went to spend some quality time with my seaswirl..... Started off running 2 slide divers...hit a walleye pretty much right of the bat...175 back, 2.5 on a rainbow chatterstick..80 fow....circled back thru a couple of times...all the hooks ....GONE. Trolled north to 110 fow...hardly marked anything so its time to move..... Decided to run to the border...set down about a mile short...MAN WHAT A SCREEN! Fish moving on big clouds of bait...best I've seen here all year!!! Finally changed over to 2 riggers so I could work the rods a bit, and got another walleye...green chatterstick on a 65 rigger. Also got a sheepie....and that was it. Beautiful morning on the lake. Got my 7 yr old from school...decided to try for some perch....tried that for an hour or so...no marks...1 perch.... WHat a nice day for the end of September, though!!

Headed out today with a friend of mine...decided to go way west in anticipation of the 10-15 NW called for mid day. Funny how that became 10-15 NE by midday..... Anyway, did not set down until we were 2+ miles west of the portland tower. Started in 80 fow, got out to 125, then headed back in an east. Had 1 steelie go on a 90 ft rigger, DW blueberry muffin. 85 ft down was 62, 90 feet down was 58...wow. Got 1 eye on a 70 ft rigger, orange/copper willow leaf, 50 back. Dropped 2 on 1 200 slide on 2.5 with a silver chatterstick. Marks were few and far between....but it was nice to be out!!

I actually have 2. Black. Bought new in 1990 as my third and fourth riggers. Seldom used then, and have been in the basement the last 6 seasons. Add on dual front holders. Metal style swivels. Would want to sell as a pair though.

If you are thinking used, I know a sweet 34 Sea Ray. Its mid 80's but immaculate. John
