  1. Congrats Mike! Looks like I missed a good time. I was on Oneida Lake for the week with the wife, kids, grand-kids and even grandma. Believe me.. Otisco sounded better. The poor old Lund pulled tubes instead of lures for the first time.. She'll recover. I'll try to make it next year. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  2. Finally got the little boat down on the river. A bit disappointing, considering that the river conditions look ideal. I just couldn't find fish! I got three keepers the other afternoon and two today. It sure was nice to be out there in a short sleeve shirt though! That's probably it for me till the season opens back up in May. Almost time to get the big boat rigged and ready. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  3. Any color will work as long as it's black.. Just my opinion. I've got orange and chartreuse shark weights, but always seem to do best with my 10# round black weights. I rarely troll over 2 mph, so blowback isn't really a problem. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  4. Congrats Kevin... Took my 3 year old grandson out not long ago and he caught a bass. Lots more to look forward to. Happy Holidays, Sluggo (Chris)
  5. Fished Friday thru Monday out of Barcelona Harbor. Friday was a decent day.. weather wise.. but no-one I spoke with did well. We ended up with four decent eyes and released a 20 pound+ laker. Saturday thru Monday were terrible. Winds picked up.. making trolling almost impossible. All three days we were the only rig parked in the harbor. In fact.. a few of the locals accused us of being insane.. to which I agreed. We did manage to pick up two or three each day.. but we earned them. Probably one more trip up to the St. Lawrence.. then wait for the herd to arrive on my local river here. By the way.. everything came on stick-baits from 90 to 110 feet of water. Never really patterned them as one would come from 35 down.. the next from 70. Not a very productive trip, but fun as usual and it sure beat working! Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  6. Kevin.. You're my Hero! I really enjoy your posts and pics. Wish I could get up there more often. Probably one more trip to Erie and another visit to Mud Bay after that. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  7. Dennis.. we don't normally do much on the riggers, but I always put them down. Love catching without dipsies, boards or weights on the line. The white bass weren't nearly as bad as out previous trip.. maybe a dozen or so all week. The sheepshead made up for it though! Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  8. Thanks Kevin! Next trip up that way will be with a buddy and a boat.. no wives. I'll start pumping you for info before we head out. Thanks and Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  9. Walt.. Most of the fish came from shallow water.. 55 to 65 ft. The bigger fish were suspended or high in deeper (75to 90 ft.) water. Strange week.. shallow fish came on riggers. Deep fish came on dipsies or six color leadcore. Good Luck.. maybe we'll catch you out there. Suggo (Chris)
  10. Spent last Mon. thru Fri. fishing out of Barcelona.. except for Monday and Tuesday afternoon which were too bumpy. Ended up with 35 walleye.. the biggest being a tad over 10#. Never really patterned them.. just a few here and there. Most actually came on the downriggers.. which is a first for us. All we used were sticks and spoons. Also picked up a 12# brown for the smoker. At least one more trip planned for the end of the month. Up in Cape Vincent on Mud Bay now, but got the wife along.. no fishing this weekend. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  11. Walt.. Yep.. They're shallower than usual! I think most of the fish being caught right now are resident fish. The suspended migrating herd just hasn't arrived in numbers yet. Of course.. those are going to be the hogs. We'll be out there tomorrow for the week and will probably try from the PA line to the Canada line.. both shallow and deep. I'll post our results. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  12. We hit Barcelona last Friday thru Monday. Got there late Fri. morning.. lake was nasty.. played golf. Saturday was decent but the white bass drove us crazy.. had four on at once.. got a couple decent fish. Sunday was rough.. got worse as the day went on. Ended up much further east than I planned on and had to run back in solid four footers.. not a fun ride. Only got a couple more. Monday was perfect.. but very foggy. Almost ran into the perch boat as he was relocating his nets in the thick fog. Did our best on Monday with fourteen.. including a ten pound brown. For some reason the white bass weren't bad on Monday. Almost everything came on Renosky sticks behind dipsies run close to bottom. Bigger fish seemed to be pretty scattered.. but the smaller resident fish were active in shallower water. Hope to get out again in a few weeks. I'd attach a couple pictures if I could figure out this smarter than me i-pad! Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  13. Fished hard all day yesterday..nada. Lots of boats out but most did no better than we did. The white bass were terrible.. had four on at once. We gave up on worm harnesses as you'd have a bass on before it was completely deployed. Not sure if we'll make it out today. Thunderstorms coming then west winds up to 20mph. Maybe tomorrow. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  14. Thanks for the tips and well-wishes guys. I'm starting to get a bit antsy. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  15. After being iced-off the river all winter and tied up every weekend since..I'm finally going fishing! Hopefully I'll be able to post some pictures and reports after this weekend. We'll be fishing out of Barcelona. Hope the boys fishing the Southtowns tourney left us a few. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  16. The hooks that come on the Renoskys are terrible.. I've had perch bend them! The finish isn't much better.. I've had them actually split down the back. That said.. I've caught more walleyes on them than any other bait! I am anxious to try the Bay Rat though. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)

Nice Job! Thanks for the report. Really looking forward to getting out there. Supposed to be a banner year from what I've heard and read. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  18. The storage place where we winter the boat left it out for a while before putting it in an unheated building for the winter. The plug was still in.. so the boat ended up with probably 20 or so gallons of water in it which I assume froze solid. Any suggestions on what problems to look for or expect. Not planning on going too far from shore on the first outing! By the way.. it's a Lund Fisherman with an outboard. Thanks.. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)

Are there really walleyes in Lake Ontario? Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  20. I did great the two weeks or so before Christmas.. then the ice hit and it was over! With this late spawn it may be good for the opener. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  21. How do you catch them with no hooks? Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  22. FleetTracker... I'm just down the road from you and gert9888 and also fish both Erie and Ontario for walleye. Apparently.. like gert.. I also don't have them dialed in on Ontario. We do fine on western Erie early and then get the summer hogs that migrate to the eastern basin. I've fished Ontario hard.. mostly just below the river.. and have not done well. We'll get big walleye, but no numbers. If you're into the info giving mood anytime I'd sure appreciate it as well. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  23. Best of luck to your son with his new toy. 60-70.. geeze.. that's faster than your "toon". I rode in a friend's 22' Ranger with a 300 Yammy.. mid 80's.. way too fast for this old guy! Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
  24. Up around the river and on Lake Erie we use Renosky's.. a bit wider body and much wider wobble than Rapalas. We also do well later with worm harnesses behind dipsies. Good Fishing, Sluggo (Chris)
