  1. Well cameras have no doubt slowed down a bit this week with overall deer movement. Last week it seemed like the young bucks showed up in full force and it was finally the end of big bachelor groups. Not sure if there has been a change in food sources but certainly a possibility. Im getting to the point where the only thing still standing is corn and that wont get harvested until next month some time. Food is plentiful but not like it was a month ago.

Yesterday was the first time in a very long time that I didnt have a daylight photo of a mature buck. Weather is the easy excuse. Haha, as Im writing this my cell cam notifications sound off with a mature buck pic. Too damn funny. I will say daylight photos are 3 to 1 in the pm hours.

  2. October 17 pm

    WSW wind 5-10 mph

    Cloudy skies

With the weather conditions close to perfect I made time in my schedule to make sure I was sitting in a tree for the afternoon. With the wind I elected to hunt a set that a buck had been daylighting the day before and 2 days before right at sunset (as per cell cam). Well he showed up for a third day in a row and it proved to be his last. The woods is still so thick and green I never saw him until he was standing 20 yards in front of me. He busted me reaching for my bow and was on high alert. He busted me again as I remove the bow from the bow hook and now he was concerned. He did a 180 degree turn around a bush and as he turned away from me I drew my bow. He step back into the shooting wind at about 22 yards, stopped, and I let an arrow fly. The shot looked perfect and I watched my arrow leave with him and nockturnal nock light up the woods. The shot looked good and felt good. It was about 610 when I arrowed him. I elected to sit until almost 7 because he headed back the same direction I came in and I didn't want to bump him as I was walking out.

As by my post I was originally going to go back in a few hours but I elected to wait until morning. I actually slept pretty good believe it or not. I think because I felt the **** was on the money.

This morning we got in the, got on the shot site, and found nothing. Zero. I jumped on the trail and headed down it just based on direction of travel when I saw him run off. Nothing. No blood. About 20 yards in my kid found a puddle of blood. I switched to a different parallel deer trail and about 10 yards further I found half of my arrow. There was a bit of blood on the tree that broke the arrow off and  after that zero blood again. WTF. I literally walked blindly down the deer trail another 20 yards and saw a white belly just off the deer trail. You cant imagine how happy I was to see that! All in all deer went about 75 yards. When I walked out last night I was within 30 yards of him. Yotes got to him a bit and chewed off his damn tail and opened the arrow wound up a bit. Here's some pics.

The shot looked great. Broadside. About 2/3 down. Not a pass though. He ran away back into the woods with my lumenock in him. I'm gonna sit until dark and sneak out of here. Come back in a few hours

  4. October 16 pm

    Cloudy

    North wind 10-15

Great night on stand. 22+ deer seen. Seven bucks with one stud, one possible 2 year old, and 5 one year olds. Lots of action. Saw some doe bumping. Heard some grunting. In the end I just picked the wrong stand. Hoping to be out tomorrow afternoon.

  5. Just an observation... When I was walking in I noticed that Scrapes were tore the hell up. One of which I can see from the stand. I "freshened" up my mock scrape as I walked in also which looks like it's getting hit also. Wasn't a leaf in it and it's been a week since I was here.

  6. Well I got out of work early today so here I am in the deer woods. I had 3 different mature bucks on camera on this property yesterday pm and all 3 in the last hour of shooting light. Let's hope they do the same thing this afternoon. Perfect wind for this set (NNW) so my fingers are crossed.

  7. As Im sure most of you do, I reach for my phone in the morning and check camera pics as soon as I wake. The wind and rain have activity crawling here this am in the dark. However the past 3 days I have seen a huge uptick in movement. Tons of new bucks showing up. For a minute it seemed like I didnt have a lot of young bucks around and boom, they are here now. Bucks of all sizes and age classes have blown up my cameras. With that being said I also have had 5 different sparring sessions caught on camera in the fast few nights along with some young bucks chasing does. Things are ramping up and its getting frisky in the woods.
