  1. I was fishing with him. Yes, a couple of them were atlantics (our first), and they went back.
  2. I’ve fished several Pro-Ams as a participant in the Pro division over the past few years and finally put together an Am team on my own for one tournament last year. For the Am tourney we originally had some difficulty getting an observer lined up and had several back out. With less than a week’s time left before the tournament, I put a post up on this board and had someone call in less than ten minutes. I guess my point is that finding someone can be frustrating and it adds an element of additional responsibility to the coordination, but in the end it turned out to be not that hard. It was just a matter of knowing where to look. All in all, I’ve met a lot of great people in these tournaments through the observer swap and consider it one of the benefits. That said, here’s my input. Observers – keep them Communication – get rid of it Fish – keep Ams at 6 Boundaries – US and Canada Lie Detector – No problem Entry fee/ payout – leave as is FUN – have more of it
  3. Took two 20 lb kings on silver bullet J-plug bloody nose, down seven, back 60. One in the river, one just outside.
  4. Thanks, Ray. Chris Kenyon did give me a list, but I thought I'd try to double up (his suggestion). Got a call a few minutes ago and it looks like I'm all set.
  5. Looking for a observer for the Wayne Pro-Am July 19,20. We'll be first timers in the Ameteur division. send an email if interested. Thanks, Pat
  6. Thanks. That one works fine.
  7. Is the Pro-Am website (lakeontarioproam.com) down or is it my computer?
  8. I was out yesterday. Can't remember the exact depth, but it's fine right now. Water level in general was quite high. I always stay as far west as possible in the channel. Haven't heard about any possible dredging.
  9. We fished on Sunday in front of the river as well. No Salmon, but we did catch a 10-12 lb Walleye!!!!!! Went back and forth in front till about 8:30 then went out to 80 ft. We marked a bunch of bait and fish but no one was hungry. Quit at 11:00. Very disappaointing last trip of the year. Mayer's marina is too shallow to launch our boat anymore. Time to break out the small boat and go fishing for perch.
  10. Some people will swear by those trolling plates, but I've had a couple, and all I do is swear AT them. I went to two Amish outfitter trolling bags a few years ago and have been very happy. I can't remember how it was described, but I opted for the bag with the reinfored opening.
  11. Went 8 for 10 Sunday with four rods. Fished 140-200 fow. Mix of kings and steelies. Steelies were whacking a white Bechtold flasher and mirage fly down 45. I think we had 3 steelhead and the average weight was probably 10 lbs. Best king was almost twenty, but had a ten pounder that fought just as well. The two largest kings hit a blue and white spin doctor with a blue and silver fly. Also had hits on wonder bread and frog spoons. There was a wicked current out there for a while. If you got into the "calmer" water, it was moving at 3mph to the east. All of our fish came outside the current.
  12. Lumberjohn/Rusty, Thanks so much for the info! Maybe we can do some catching as well as fishing now. Patrick
  13. Well, I'm headed to Owasco Lake next week (August 18-24) with the family and looking for fishing ideas. I have all kinds of gear at my disposal (including a boat set up for LO trolling), but have no idea what the lake holds for opportunity. Bass, walleye, trout, panfish? There will be individuals with 60 years of fishing experience and some with zero. I don't know how much we'll get out, but if anyone has some ideas to share, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.
  14. Tried the 40-60 ft range early but could only muster up one release 50 over 55 on a black and silver spoon. Fish popped the release and then nothing. A few seconds later, it spit the hook, shot out of the water a couple of times and disappeared. Went out and set up in about 180 and headed deep. At 330 fow had a nice rip on the wire out 185, lost everything past the dipsey (glow metal dodger, white fly). Later, took a small king down 50 over about 450 on a blue/green watermelon. At closer to 600 fow, finally took a decent 22lb king 185 out on the wire on an old S-shaped Luhr Jensen chrome dodger doctored with a little green tape and a green fly. Had a couple of other releases, but overall, things seemed slow and inconsistent. The 22lber had one of the largest Lampreys we've seen yet. It was an 8 oz monster.
  15. I wouldn't read too much into the lack of replies or posts. Keep in mind there are a lot of us that either don't get out very often or simply haven't done well enough to share much on any particular day. That doesn't mean we don't enjoy "staying connected" to what is going on. Keep up the good work.
  16. Couldn't get anthing to turn on in shallow. A few marks around 170 fow but no takers. Moved out to 500 fow around 9:30. Lots of bait, no marks, but did manage a nice steelie and a 20lb king on the wire out 215, then another small steelie down 45 on the rigger. Green/green dodger fly on the wire and an NBK on the rigger.
  17. Got the new rocket launcher installed. Very happy with it. Check out a few pictures of it in the link below. http://picasaweb.google.com/pjdennie/Gr ... ersRodRack
  18. Well, we fished from about 6:30- 11:30. Started in 200ft and worked out. Took a choho in 275 on a white dodger white fly and another in about 300 on a NK mag baby shower. Both about 40 down. Later took another coho in about 200ft and then a small steelie off the top. Marks were sparse and bait was no where to be found. Fish could have been more plentiful, but it was a beautiful day out there. Thanks for the help.
  19. I'm headed out of I-bay in the morning (Sun 6/10), anyone know where the fish are?
  20. 1) Lose the laker 2) open communication 3) 6 largest fish count at weigh in, similar to Scotty derby
  21. I'm putting an order in for the Rocket Launcher Plus. We'll see how it goes.
  22. Anyone using Great Lakes Planers rocket launchers? What do you think of them? They seem reasonably priced for the weekender. Thanks for any input. Pat http://www.greatlakesplaners.com/tackle-shop.htm
  23. I'm interested in making some of my own trolling flies. Where is the best place to get the pieces for making trolling flies???? I'm mainly looking for the heads and the skirt material. Thanks for any info you can give me.
