I've used both. My vote is for 2 bags. The plates eventually bend no matter how careful you are and then you'll need to replace.

Here's a shot before they decided to pack it in.

We made it out (with a three and six year old), but ended up heading back in by 9:30. It was tough to keep them interested as we hadn't been able to catch anything. They did enjoy some hot cocoa back at the shelter though. Not sure how things ended up overall but everyone was very nice and I'm sure we'll try it again. Pat

Thanks Mike and rolmops for the info. I was thinking that you couldn't buy minnows from I-bay and transport them, but I just checked the DEC website and as long as they're certified and you keep the receipt it's all good.

Saw a flier at Dick's a couple of weeks ago for an ice fishing derby at Mendons pond park. http://discovervictory.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=226:ice-fishing&catid=61:sports&Itemid=129. Thought I'd try it out to introduce the kids to ice fishing. I've never fished the pond before so I'm looking for pointers. Species available, what bait to use and where to get it, etc. Thanks, Pat

Took one pass but it didn't look like much was going on so we pointed deep. Marked a few fish but couldn't get anything to turn. Checked temp and it was in the sixties from top to bottom so we picked up and went out to 400 fow. Marked consistent fish from 130 to 160 down, but couldn't get anything to go there either. Made a slow troll back in toward I-bay. Finally had the one hit on a dipsy out 425 when we were back into 170 fow. King around 8 lbs. Beautiful day to be on the lake.

I like it the way it is. I especially like the fact that 20 places in each division get represented. It's fun to try and "make the board" and watch other freinds or boats you know make it on. For me the thrill isn't the $25 or $50 bucks, but the noteriety. If only 10 places were represented, it would get stagnant quick and there would be no fun in "checking the board". If I fished to try and justfy costs, I'd never have any fun. Getting on the "board", even if it's only in 20th place and only for a day is priceless.

In the past, during the tournament only, the observer was not required to pay to enter the LOC but was considered registered. I can't remember how they worded it, but in essence, you could enter fish in the LOC without your observer paying to get in the LOC. They'll mention it at the captain's meeting. Pat

Once you enter the pier heads, you're done for the pro-am and can't go back out. We ran into this situation two years ago at the Sodus pro-am. We had a second place brown in the box. The LOC I think ended at noon or 1, and the pro-am was at two. We called tournament control to ask that very question and decided to wait as long as we could, then ran in the fish and had it weighed in at LOC before they closed. We couldn't go back out, but it netted us second in browns and big brown for the tourney for $600 total. That was the better option for us. Keep the phone numbers for the LOC and tourney control handy. Rules can change. If it happened again to us, I'd still call and ask again from the water. The other situation that happened to us was last year at Sodus when the lake got snotty, we wanted to go into the bay and wait to see if things calmed down a little then go back out, we again called tourney control. They said once we were in the pier heads, we were done for the day, so keep that in mind too.

My father and I took my daughter (5 yo), and niece down to the canal for some panfishing on Father's Day. Caught a couple dozen panfish altogether including sunfish, bluegill, rock bass, perch and one small "bigmouth" as my daughter likes to call it. Pat

Tim, I'm working on this project with Dave. Did you need to account for any difference in length between the end of the old rack and the entry point on the new AP? It seems like there could be 4 to 6 inches of difference.

Hey Chris, I agree, it's always been a dream to get the big one in the ESLO/LOC. I thought we had our 5 minutes of fame last year when we got the second place brown. It's been great fishing with you, I hope we do it for years to come. Question is, if we buy an autopilot with the winnings, will it respond to requests to make a hard right when we're almost spooled? Pat

Big fish was spoonfed-IBAY. Big trouble was spoonfed-1. Two different boats. I am part owner in spoonfed-Ibay, but I'll let Dave tell the story of the LOC fish, since he caught it. Glen had a tough day Saturday, but was back at em on Sunday. Pat

I think the part you're quoting regarding leaving a specific port isn't actaully part of the "rules". It's listed under "open events" which summarizes who the new open division is targeted to. Under the Rules menu it says: Tournament Limits: Teams must enter and exit from assigned ports ONLY.
