  1. Was fortunate enough to live a week in fishing paradise during this last snow storm. I'm back to reality now :? Some great memories... VIDEO: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v68/g ... gdream.flv
  2. I understand the success of the pen rearing and the eagerness to do so. My point is uncontrolled enviromental factors while raising the fish in the pens. What if Kodak accidentally leaked something up river, a gasoline tanker crashed on Rt. 18 and its contents ended up into the sandy creek watershed, for some unknown reason the water temps fluctuate drastically while raising the fish etc. etc. yes these are unlikely events, however there is outside chance uncontrolable events such as these could occur. If they did your putting ALL you future fish at risk. By dividing up the hatchery stock, some pen, some lake, you are helping to guarantee at least some of the fish stock could avoid such an event.
  3. I am by no means an expert on the raising of fish, but why put all your eggs into one basket? What if something were to go wrong and the whole pen/s got wiped out? It's like putting your life savings into a single companies stock. Too risky in my opinion.
  4. Thanks. I'm still using the 35mm cameras. They work, but are more time consuming as far as getting pics off of them. I want to get a digital or two, but I have a hard time dropping a few hundred bucks on something that I'm not sure is going to be there when I return. I haven't had any of my other cameras stolen yet, but I continue to hear horror stories all the time, even when in private property.
  5. Nice shots. What brand camera do you have and do you like it?
  6. What?? Are you kidding me? 3 pros in the boat and not a single bass? You guys need to break down and use some minnows! Just remember to keep your receipt. LOL
  7. Yes the ice is holding at around 4". There was a couple noticable wet areas I would avoid, one being around the island. Guys were as far out as the point. There was open water a couple days ago about 75 yards beyond that after the big blow. Be cautious this weekend if going out that far.
  8. Just some honkey-tonk winter pike action...
  9. Funny, I saw that also. It reminded me about the kid, I think it was 2 years ago, that took his friends on a joyride in his parents suv on Irondequoit. He ended up the same way.
  10. The only other thing I would add is that there can be very good topwater action first thing in the morning and last light in the day. Try buzzbaits, zara spooks, and chug bugs over the tops of the weedbeds and around the points. Don't be suprised to catch a big northern or tiger musky this way either. It's quite a sight to see a fish nearly a yard long come out of the water to hit a bait!!
  11. Decided to hit the tribs today and maybe tomorrow before they lock up with ice for a while...
  12. Getting bored with browns and steelies, there's no ice left, sooooooooo.....how about some winter smallmouth action? Video report: http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v68/gumpy2/Videos/?action=view&current=winterbasskickin.flv
  13. Don't have a handle on archerytalk. I saw it on another forum. Where's your report under the 'ice fishing' ? Rumor has it you played on Braddocks saturday....
  14. A member of another forum has taken the time to create a very thorough survey for all the NY deer hunters, since the DEC hasn't come up with anything yet. I applaud his efforts and determination to make our voices heard. i urge everyone to fill it out: http://www.tigersurvey.com/survey.php?survey=4271
  15. I am in the same mind set as Mr Happy. The state has been too lax about giving out deer permits and we are seeing a direct result of it. Another fine example of this is PA. Ask any hunter there if they have seen result from the AR's that were rammed down their throat about 5 years ago and just about anyone of them will tell you that the program hasn't lived up to everyones expectations. Granted the results vary from region to region but many will tell you that as a trade off of producing some larger bucks, the herd is has been close to decimated in certain areas. The state goofed and to offset the manditory antler restrictions, they issued a surplus of doe permits. The first few years were great. Everyone was filling multiple doe tags. On top of that it appeared more mature bucks were being harvested a couple of seasons into the program. Ask the hunters about it now. Most say they are lucky to see a deer in certain parts of the state. Simply too many deer were harvested. I fear NY is not far behind if the state doesn't curb the issuing of too many permits. On a side note, Poverty Stricken, You mentioned that the fields on your property were hay fields. One of the properties I hunt on is the same way after being cornfields for years. The hay doesn't seem to hold much nutritional value for the deer and we are seeing less deer on the property in part as a result of it I believe. I had been thinking that the deer in the area had started feeding somewhere else. After cleaning a buck I shot last year that had corn in him, it helped to confirm my suspicion. Just saying that it could be a factor.
  16. You trying to get me going or what! That Jack-in-the-box nearly ran us aground!!!!! He gave us the option of either turning into him or beaching ourselves! Glad his clients witnessed what a dink he was.....
  17. I'll be happy to once we troll near you. That means you have to tell me where the fish are at
  18. Snapped this photo of an early morning hookup in front of the Genny this fall. Have no idea whose boat it is but thought it might make a nice photo. Unfortunately it didn't come out as clear as I would have liked due to boat movement. Is it anyone on this forum?
  19. Marcus, Glad you took my comment in jest. I figured you dish it out enough that you could also take it. Steve
  20. Sorry Yankee. I'll be more politically correct. A coho being held by a talkative, sometimes loud, foul mouthed young male caucasian.
  21. NIce pics. That steely third pic down has incredible color!
