  1. If the wind would pick a different direction, can handle it...the chop when I left wasn't any worse then what it was like last night but they were chewin'... I give up easy and wasn't about to get splashed in the face all day for terrible fishing...not like there's a 16" perch in there...
  2. Totally failed to produce this morning...zero in the bucket and then the wind started rippin'...a few guys had 4-5 good ones and everyone in sight at least caught some small ones...might try this afternoon, see what the wind has in mind... Better days ahead...
  3. Great perseverance!!! Hopefully they are still there for your next outing!!! Haven't fished the parkway aide of those ponds before, might have to give it a shot sometime...
  4. There still gettin'em at the ponds...Monday morning wasn't kind to me at all, I'm sure someone did better but that south east wind start rippin' around 10 and think only one person stuck it out after departing at 10:30...went back at 3:30 with a manageable wind and it was lights out fishing with a lot of good fish that anyone would toss into a bucket... Arrived at 2 today, struggled to keep rods in the water...I got nothing to live for so the down-pours, thunder and lightning didn't bother me...a bunch of guys stuck it out as well, while others were running to the parking lot...bite died right out around 5, and when the south wind started blowing it picked back up again...worst keeper ratio so far, tons of little ones and murdered 28 for the afternoon... Been nice getting back to my roots, perch fishing there...fished more there in the last week then the past 10 years...
  5. Good job!!! Happy you were able to adjust to current conditions and pile fish in a bucket!!!
  6. Imagine it would've been a little difficult to pin-point me driving by at 35 mph while you were fishing, lol...was a lot of people and back in the day driving by every other person would have a fish dangling in the air when the bite was on...were a few guys in the northeast corner on cranberry and sometimes that area produces rather well, no clue how it was over there... Better days ahead hopefully and you caught more fish then me today!!! Don't mind the three periods used after every sentence, life-long habit...like in school when being taught to double space in-between sentences while typing, my preference is for three periods...Great fishing to you!!!
  7. Hollow Grinder was a nice shop, my father took me there a few times in my younger days...remember the candy dish at the register and very friendly people behind the counter... Usually am not out on weekends, to let the warrior have at it...was joy-riding this morning and drove by the ponds about 8:30 and the crowd was exactly like it usually is for a Sunday with good weather...not sure you could fit another car either place...hopefully the fish were biting for everyone... Would've tried if I didnt sleep in and wake up at 5:30...
  8. Awesome catch, well done!!!
  9. Very well could be wrong but have been hearing they don't have minnows anymore...believe they have "refrigerator" bait like crawlers, spikes and things like that...
  10. Great job!!! Must have been awesome to have good fishing and spending time with your father and son!!!
  11. Great job!!! Kicking myself for falling asleep before setting a alarm, was wanting to fish there again...these were my fish from Friday...took the pic about 10 am and was able to add more before leaving
  12. Thank you for not taking things the wrong way...everyone is entitled to having an opinion based on personal observation and respect that right of every individual... Am hopeful the fishing becomes more consistent for everyone...
  13. In no way, shape or form are these posts and comments meant to cause a argument...much different words and phrases would be utilized if a internet battle was desired... Bassn247, didn't want to make it sound like I was saying sucks to be you, and your lazy for fishing long pond...long pond has been slow,,,since Wednesday numerous people have been telling me go to cranberry, it's on fire and a few people mentioned the exact opposite but the majority said cranberry has good fishing... It was the accusations of false advertisement that had made a harsher tone adjustment...
  14. Wow, sucks you guys didn't catch,,,since you failed to produce, doesn't mean my report is "false advertising"...you might say this due to my occupation this time of year, that place has more people walking through the door then any other in the area and it was happening well before this post... plenty of people watched my clinic yesterday, and people that were there Thursday said the fishing was better...long pond always was the worse pond to me and mostly for guys not wanting to move more then 15 feet to fish...heard most guys only caught a few there Friday, like 1-3 fish...didn't say it was a slaughter, but producing fish and if it makes you happy will say I was lucky and happened to be in the right place, at the right time, doing the right things...people around me struggled, while my bucket kept filling up... Every days not great and it's harder for the weekend guys to have everything line up just right with such limited time...hope you do better next time and feel bad you wasted your time, money and didn't catch anything...I'm a master at laying around do nothing, watching tv and eating more then my 150 pound frame looks like being capable off but made a last minute call to fish and glad it was made... Everyone in the world is aware of these ponds and it happen every year and every forum that has a section relevant to this place has people posting reports and asking questions...nothing is a secret anymore,,, Certainly isn't to early, they are prepping to spawn and are heading to where they will be...ever been there when they actually are spawning and seen the perch on shore and the big mucus like, egg filled sacs laying around??? They are very difficult to catch and you'll do better before they start...haven't fished there in years and remember casting to the ice edges and having our way with the fish...there around, you will not crush them every day, and like all fishing you will deal with many bad days to be there for the great ones... It's not too early, maybe people had a slow day...heard the fishing was bad for everything, everywhere today...weather is the biggest influence in fishing... Taking my niagaras and nail tails back as soon as I can and maybe will have a terrible day, maybe it will be good...gotta go to find out....good fishing!!!
  15. Were 4 of those today fishing all over the pond...typically most boat fishermen have different waters they would prefer...car top launch only if you want to obey the sign...
  16. Lol,,,it couldn't be anymore crowded then it already is and the word is out to begin with...can never go there and expect not to be crowded unless the fishing is absolutely terrible, then there will still be a crowd trying to catch perch...also, caught a few crappies and a nice pike... Show up very early this weekend if you want a parking spot at cranberry...was there at 545 with 3/4 full parking lot and guys on the bank, hanging out waiting for light...the bite started Wednesday, I waited to mention this until the crowds were basically at its peak... Just wake up earlier to get a spot and fine tune your presentations to get bites in a crowd when they get fussy...

    Cranberry

Well, the word is out...cranberry/long pond are producing perch... Was there this morning at cranberry and the fishing was good for me, although people were leaving by 9 due to "slow" fishing and can't understand why, as for quite a while it was impossible to keep two rods in the water... Emeralds vastly outfished fat heads but am basing this on the guys around me who only had fatheads and lively swimming minnows made a difference...the bite switched back and forth from drop-shot rigs with emeralds, to the float and a nail-tail jig with spikes...fish were in real tight to shore this morning, and moved out as the day went on...frequent changing of spikes helps, if they become pale and lose all there guts it's time for new ones... A bunch of guys mentioned today was "tough" and "slow" and mentioned the above things to help you guys for the days the fish are a bit picky...if they are hot and aggressive, it won't really matter what you throw at them... Also, there's no need to inch closer and closer to someone catching fish...2 guys to my right kept inching closer and closer...then the people next to them inched closer and closer...it could be the technique being used as the reason for not catching, or simply the pod of fish hasn't made it in front of you...certainly can't go there without expecting to be crowded but a matter of a few feet won't make a difference... Enjoy the weekend!!!
  18. All wise comments made about obeying the law and simply staying out of the zone...very understandable these agencies are doing there job and protecting us from a possible terrorist threat and have no ill feelings towards them and if I get caught and become arrested and all my equipment seized, fully understand it is my own fault... Was just trying to make the best of an oppurtunity and a loop-hole in the system...it was border patrol officers that mentioned to me that they, nor the coast guard will come out to get us if the buoys aren't in...while it is marked on a gps, not everyone has one and yes can understand as a fishermen we should be knowing of all regulations in effect... Loved taking my 1956, 14 foot piece of crap aluminum rowboat out to ginna and have done some serious fish catching in that thing and hope to do so again, but while the buoys are in, I will NOT go inside them..if they are ever out, I will get as close as possible without causing issues and have always moved when asked and never tried to go back in...
  19. What type of obstruction could they build??? Concrete piers that extend along the shore-line out to 50 feet of water like the buoys??? maybe massive gate type things so water can flow out and in??? They would better off blockading the launch ramp if they wanted to try and obstruct people's access...wouldn't mind if they built a few piers, would channel that warm water out to the depths so maybe we can catch some kings..the Browns like to stay shallow, even if you find that warm pocket of water out deep... Yes, we lose access on tributaries...they use a sign on a tree/post to accomplish this... I'm not as stupid as I tell myself, admission of guilt in any form can be prosecutable...just like someone can get a ticket for posting a pic on Facebook of them holding a lake sturgeon... Been hearing rumors they want to shut down ginna anyway as its not turning a profit and they need to strike a deal with some energy company to keep it going...it very well could be all done in five years...although it's a lengthy termination process so they say, as soon as they stop pumping out heated water, the fishery is done...so our kids/grandchildren wouldn't have had a chance to fish there to begin with...don't quote me on this, just hear-say and through the grape vine statements and am surely not a nuclear technician... Really not trying to be a jerk...its not easy finding people that are as kind/generous as myself...just stating my experiences with fishing at Ginna and never once had the oppurtunity to fish there prior to 9/11...if the question of what is Ginna was never asked, my mouth would be shut...
  20. Same thing happened last year...one day there were 3 drift boats from the salmon river going back'n forth being relentlessly yelled at and they never moved...then the person I know that works in ginna mentioned that day the plant manager was on a rampage wanting everyone arrested and he advised we stay away for a few days and let him settle down...
  21. Yes, the blow-boat comment was rude/uncalled for and sent you a pm to apologize and am publicly apologizing to you here...I'm sorry for that comment... We have very similiar views on fishing and I respect the outlook you have towards fishing...Your absolutely right about "one-upping" and chest pounding, exactly why you'll very rarely, if ever see me post reports or pictures as there is no need for that and could care less if people believe the experiences I've had...although I enjoy seeing people's pictures and reports as long as it's meant to be helpful/informative and not too boast... The experience/scenery is part of fishing as well...my favorite place in the world to fish is Cattaraugus in October...scenery is beautiful, watching the sunrise burn off the morning fog over the creek is amazing and gives a feel of being in a wilderness setting as theres hardly, if any development within sight of the creek as well as wildlife of deer and eagles...plus you can walk for miles and escape a crowd...being able to experience the above and have a shot at catching dime bright steelhead is why I'm there and everything as a whole makes for a great experience...just a good example of how I'm not just a chest pounding, one upping, all about the numbers fishermen and have never posted a report or pictures of my excursions there, but people's jaws drop when being explained of the type of fishing that can be found... No clue as to why last year the guard was so lenient, guess was just dumb luck but I wouldn't dare go into the quarantine zone if the buoys are out, but surely would double anchor right on the line to making sure to be legal and not let the boat swing...there are a few fishing laws that are routinely broken day after day, year after year by very ethical fishermen.l and I'm referring to cleaning fish on the lake at the end of a charter...believe there's a few stipulations regarding lakers, and skinning fish as if checked an officer has no clue what kind of fish it was...please correct me if I'm wrong...yea, that is very much different then the ginna thing but it's still a broken law...
  22. Of-course you don't need to be inside the illegal zone to catch fish, the vast majority of the time I've spent there has been outside the perimeter, but since they were so relaxed about it, why not??? Do know 2 people that were caught by the coast guard inside the perimeter while buoys are out, slap on the wrist, no tickets/fine nada...$150.00 doesn't sound too bad if they were to let me fish there sun-up to sun-down... One day by myself the guard got on the speaker and told me just move a little bit more to the east and I'll leave you alone and where he said I could anchor was still inside 1000 yards..some days it seemed as if they were kiddin' around with us, especially when they said "alright guys, you caught enough fish time to stay out"...think it's odd, that for hours they wouldn't say anything, maybe the boss walked by and then he had to do something??? I fish to catch fish, comraderie and being out there is a by-product of that...people think I'm a numbers guy??? Not at all...anyone that knows me is certain to the fact that catching as many fish as possible is low on the list, but I will put myself in a position to catch fish exactly how I desire...even trolling, I do not want to fight fish, I love the rigging aspect and figuring out what triggers a bite...plus I'm lazy and kings fight too hard...a lot of the methods I choose to fish are quite difficult and handicap me before even starting but I choose that as its very self satisfying...if it's just comraderie and being on the water that is of utmost importance, become a blow-boater!!! Didn't mean to start anything, just spot burning for personal reasons and I haven't fished Ginna once this winter and most likely will not...really am not as much of a jerk as I'm making myself out to be, one of them days...
  23. My boat would move if asked and last year not once were the markers out while I was fishing...to begin, would run right up into where I wanted to be, maybe 2-4 hours later, sometimes never they would ask me to move and I certainly would...usually out deeper in front and they were ok with that, or on the fence line as you approach from the east...It was another persons boat I was on last year that didn't care about the warnings...he would leave for a minute, and go right back in and get yelled at some more...
