  1. Last year the guard was pretty lenient to the rules...usually could fish in the illegal zone for about three hours before they would say anything...some days they never said anything...wouldn't chance it now after hearing of the coast guard being out there but when things are iced in and they can't get there boats in the water, it's a risk I'll take...slap on the wrist the first time being caught...besides the Browns, you can catch coho's, rainbows, atlantics, smallmouths and silver bass and we have caught all of these casting spoons...there are kings around too, but with so many other species they don't get a chance at a lure...watched one king last year repeatedly jumping trying to shake a lamprey...purely amazing place to fish, have at it!!!
  2. It's the ginna nuclear power plant...it's a warm water discharge that is a absolute magnet for fish during the winter...when the rest of the lake is cold, you can find 50+ degree water being pushed out into the lake from this power plant...if you want to risk being arrested you can get right in there and catch 100 Browns in a day...it has been said that when the perimeter buoys aren't in the water, the border patrol/coast guard won't come out after us...there is someone on guard at the plant that will blast a siren and get on a loud speaker telling you to get out and stay 1000 yards away... It's a amazing place to fish, last time there with one other person solely casting cleos right into the warm discharge we landed 68-70 Browns, that was landed not hooked or "bites"...the guard was ****ing at us for a while but we pushed the envelope and nothing ever happened...
  3. Much thanks to justtraceytrolling and Bosco!!! Never once fished for eyes at night, let alone in a boat, on a body of water where they are'nt easy to catch... Very helpful, advice was given as to what I should be looking for and presentation patterns...caught only a couple my first week, within a month had a solid pattern that would yield 8-18 in the boat a night and lasted until I wasn't able to go anymore...thanks again guys!!!
  4. Not a walleye guy but several times this past summer when the eyes were following and nipping lures but not getting hooked, a generous layer of ultra smelt smelly jelly turned those follows and nips into hard smashes and inhaled lures...was fishing four nights a week and rotating through areas and after a while they were getting finicky but the scent made a massive difference, like they never saw a lure before... also had zero lights on and towels on my aluminum rowboat to not make noise...never had a problem with no lights, except when I didn't see Bosco in time and didn't turn them on quick enough, sorry Bob...only time I ever saw another fishermen during week nights...
  5. Ron is a good guy and quite a few don't realize he is the owner...works a full time job and goes right to his shop after...you'll see him 330 to closing time during the week, holidays and weekends...lots of respect for Ron...
  6. As of now they are permanently closed...Not to speak badly about anyone, but three times the owner was keeping license money and not paying the state and multiple times he lost the ability to sell licenses...bait suppliers and wholesalers were'nt being paid and the vast majority of the goods in his store, were stolen from big box stores...our options in Rochester at the moment is South Bay, Mitchell's and S&R...I'm biased towards S&R from 20 years of patronage...
  7. Silver glo green edge...double white with pearl fishscale tape, and my number one favorite is a silver glo back, white front with green and chartreuse dots...
  8. What you are trying to accomplish would most likely work... A friend has a i pilot mounted on the bow and runs his main engine at idle speed and the trolling motor powered just enough to keep speed...this also acts as a autopilot having a remote on a lanyard and not needing to be at the wheel... His set up works very well, unless you want to head into 2 foot or taller waves then the trolling motor prop comes out of the water on waves losing propulsion but if you turned down wind, you can turn the main engine off and trolling motor down... Give it a shot, there's a few people that have this set up and works well for them...
  9. Wish I had the capabilities of searching them out in the lake...guya have mentioned there catching tons of perch in braddocks but it's a struggle finding a keeper...
  10. Guys are coming into S&R bait shop today claiming the perch bite has picked up greatly...one person said him and his buddy kept 45 over 10" yesterday, another guy mentioned he had a limit with a couple pushing 12-13" yesterday as well...I'm only here a day or two a week when not fishing and these are the best reports all month...
  11. Carbon 14...bad toad...Shelly snack...green jeans...wonder bread...
  12. Have always ran them with the tinsel covering the thread and not exposed as I believe they are supposed to be run...although I have seen multiple people rig them "backwards" and catch plenty of fish and does give the fly a different look...
  13. Sorry for a late reply but this hasnt sold yet and was unable to reach the above interested person...
  14. Will be a while before you get a boat up there again...multiple times have gone up river smashing and banging through skim ice...lots of fun!!! Until the day my buddies outboard fell off the transom banging through ice...gas line alone kept it from sinking but we got it back and motored to the ramp...didnt stop us from going again...
