  1. Thanks for the report YT. A sweet beaver eh?
  2. Well, we fished A-Bay area and caught some bass. Did not fish real hard or serious (my fishing partner and better half had other ideas ). Had decent bass action in the morning and towards evening working the edges of shoals and islands. Stayed mostly in the area North of the Boldt Castle drifting Worms and large fatheads, no depthfinder on the small boat I borrowed- I'd say most hits were near the drop offs - 15 to 20 fow. A big thanks goes out to all reporting on these non local waters. By sharing your reports, it makes this site an even greater resource.
  3. Thanks guys. I'll definitely stop into the baitshop, purchase some tackle & bait and get the lowdown. In the past, I've always payed for a guide/charter. They know the water..... and where the rocks are. Just easier than towing all that way to find rocks with the prop. Good luck and I'll post a report.
  4. Going up next weekend to A Bay & looking for any info on the fishing up there. Anyone know what's been biting or links to their local reports would be appreciated. Read the responses to Fat Tommy's St. Larry thread. Any reports appreciated.
  5. PS: Steehead: I tell my kids "you can't catch fish if your line isn't in the water" all the time !!! I think they are beginning to catch on. No pun intended.
  6. Trip Report for Sandy 6/30: Late morning start with the kiddos. Trolled for a few minutes off the pumphouse in 20fow. Didnt get any takers but marked a few fish down low. Screwed around on the lake, water was barely swimable but took a dip anyway - 70F. Ran up the creek and caught a some small bass and kids had a pile of sunnies. Damn things sucked their worm right deep every time  Momma was right, should have been a surgeon - I managed to unhook all but one successfully & let them swim away The other , well its wearing one of those teenage hook piercings. Interesting enough, I had a spotted gar follow the rubber lizard I was throwing, I'd say about 18". I've seen bigger in the creek, just not ready to strike like that one. Steelhead'r: Absolutely. Its a small sacrifice. In due time, I hope they'll be waking my butt up to go out early. Thinking of making the trip to Hedges, as its been a few years. How's the fishing out there. Hamlin used to be okay. But not like some days we had out the Hedges. Anyone catching bass there? or have the gobies taken over??
  7. Bassman- Went out a few weekends ago. Had the kids and were drifting off the creek & pumphouse. Nothing but some large gobies. Don't know if the bass were around there but best bet would be trolling. Ran up into the creek and batted the cycle. I think the kids caught one of everything you can think of. I did a few bass tossing tubes/worms and spinnerbaits. A few hammer handles northern too. Just like at the Oak, I can keep the kids entertained there. Problem is.... I don't get my casts in. Too busy monkeying with A) baiting hooks B) digging hooks out of fish C) untangling birdnests D) keeping score E) All of the above. At least I'm on the water!! Wouldn't trade it. I've seen guys of the Nose and pumphouse but haven't heard how they're doing??? Good Luck, Good fishing
  8. Bob's Boy , et al.. Not looking to rip anyone, sorry to offend all you "sportsmen". I like a nice home smoked fish anyday of the week, not to mention venison jerky. You are the one to twist what I said and revert to name calling - good going. Must be I hit a nerve or could it be that what I said was.... anyway. Hey, didn't I say it was a decent fish. I'd love to catch 8lb Browns on a very regular basis. Rich, you need to chill. I didn't rip anyone's head off - wasn't looking to. Hey guys- Do what you want, I'm not in charge of this board or lake. Just trying to reinforce a point. One that everyone says they do but only maybe 50% of the time (think juveniles). Maybe instead I should have made a suggestion of minimum size limit for this gentlemens tourney. LOC has size limits for each flavor of fish to minimize the taking of smaller fish just for a outside chance to get your name on the board for a day. Why not add the minimums to this derby. Then you can have all the bragging rights and get respect too. Go ahead fire away or let it lie. I'm done. You won't see me post any dead fish on this site EVER. Well.... unless its the LOC winner or new state record.
  9. BBoy, Decent Brownie. Hope you plan on eating it & not letting it get freezer burn. Next time let it grow! What ever happened to C&R? Measure, Click, release. Its that simple.
  10. Sorry for a delayed reply, been working. Lawn needs attention now, fish tomorrow?? Thanks for the info guys. From the descriptions and picture - it was the Kaho. Right on. Looked like one of those shrimp boats you see down South and figured it was an RV. Knew it wasn't the Seth Green. It was flying a US flag, but also another flag never seen before. Like I said, never got close enough to read a name (don't know what they're pulling, don't want to get into it). That's it, Binocs are going in the boat right now while I'm thinging of it!
  11. I was off Hamlin Beach Sunday and spotted a large vessel apparently trawling in approx. 50 fow. Tug shaped w/ dark hull appeared to be moving at fast troll from West to East, no turns kept going. Looked from where I was like they had a cable running off the stern winch - my guess they were trawling. Anybody have an idea which research vessel this might have been and what they were looking for? Keep forgetting the binocs  makes it easier to see what lures Legacy, Persistence , and Rebel are catching fish on !! By the way, caught nothing but Gobies off the Sandy mouth, the pumping station and Yanty. No smallies. A few fish up the creek - kids got into sunnies, perch, small bass. Watched a guy take a few hammer handle pike.
  12. Thanks for link Salmoseine, appreciate it. Looks like 5 out of 30 guys were only able to hookup on the walleye. Makes me feel a bit better. Still need to refine my techniques. Anyone like to share their tactics?
  13. Not much to report: Went for the night bite on Walleye. Arrived @ 8:15pm, walleye club/tourney gathering at the state launch and a dozen other trailers in the parking lot. Headed to North end and trolled with no takers. Marked many in 20- 30 fow, could not get a bite. fished anywhere from 8 to 35 fow. Fair amount of traffic on the water , glad to see everyone had their lights working! Back at the launch @ 11:00. 3 other boats loading out, nobody was successful. At least I know it wasn't me and not the only one to get skunked. Still enjoyed the moon & stars. That's why they call it fishing and not catching! Guys were saying they did well the weekend before. Would like to know how the walleye club/tourney guys did & techniques used.
  14. Steve, Good info to start from. will try to sneek out this weekend & will report back if I make it out.
  15. Thanks for the report S.S. Just what the Dr ordered. Just off the weedbeds @ S end? BTW, Nice Signature Graphics, Very Cool!
  16. Sweeeeet. Good going guys! And with Only a day and a half left.
  17. Doug, Thought I'd pass this along.... Was filling up the boat with gas yesterday and a guy at next pump mentions he may hit Cranberry Pond. Hi Buddy had been limiting out at night there. Didn't say anything about size. closer to home. He did say Lake Alice was slow, even for Crappie. Good luck.
  18. .........Fish Bandit, thanks for the heads up. Going tomorrow. and am a fan of Sandy and the beach. Gameplan might have just changed...
  19. Doug, Very well could have been. Last years Spring derby, we were launching at 1st lite. Dude on the dock caught about 8 - 10 lb walleye about 15 minute before we got there. Yeah right, doesn't the guy lift up a stringer with it. And NO, he wasn't signed up - no money but a nice catch. Then again, could have been one of those big fat goby eatin' sheephead !!!
  20. Sounds like a fun day. Nice Brownies. We did the Genny today and as reported it was a SLOW pick. Did browns in close early 5 of 5 then headed deeper to 70-90, 100 in some fairly warm river water. managed a couple coho 4 for 4. No pattern except came off riggers and divers down 20-35.
  21. That a cool Pic. Thanks fo rsharing I've seen some different birds and waterfowl along that stretch from Braddocks to Hamlin Beach. That's a great area for holdover during migrations over the Lake. The birdguide is a handy tool. We watch for divers when its slow to find those small pockets of water holding bait.
  22. Thanks for the report Cpt Pat. on the fish and dox. Hope all is well with the Pen Rears. Thank you & everyone for the efforts with such an important project.
  23. Newbie here, whats the scoop? Got hooked on the Big Lake fishing and am short on tackle, have a few NK, northports, stingers, etc.. what are the the must have patterns?? thanks fo rthe info
