  1. I have power steering on my Islander and have no problems steering my kicker when the main engine isn't running. I use an EZ-Steer system and it works great for me.

    Same setup and mine works great for me too!

  2. Nice report. Sounds like you had a great day.

    As for the releases, I use black's downrigger releases. I can adjust the sensitivity of the release for the species and lakes that I am on. For me they work great!

    Here is a picture.

    SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS

    ====================

    We saw a a nice fish jumping behind the boat...after its aerial show for us, the rod went squeeling and after netting it realized it was about a 10lb Atlantic. It was released to have off spring. What a gorgeous fish...pic soon after my fishing partner sends it to me. Other than this one, just 4 same ole cookie cutter browns.

    Tight lines!

  4. I have a 1989 24' Thompson Fisherman. Boat is very similiar and my top end speed is about 30-35, fast enough for me. I get up plane easily with a 5.0L Merc matched with the Alpha One. Definitely get it surveyed. I had mine for about 5 years and last spring, I had a new transom put in. Good luck with your decision/purchase.

  5. For the spring time, I use the big jon quad tree...like it. For summer and fall fishing, I use the berts rod holder stystem and like that too. Many great choices out there. Good luck finding what works for you!
