    merc 228

just aquired a 78 crestliner with a merc 228 in it, the numbers on the drive are 5622197 and to the right of that is 1-50r any idea what drive it is? the floor is shot but the rest is solid as a rock so i think i have a project in store. will the distributer from a 350 fit a 305? the one in the 305 is conventional but i have an electronic one from a 350 thanks ted

    rot

how critical is the piece of plywood that runs perpendicular to the keel between the stringers at the front of the engine. it doesnt look like it supports anything and its rotted. do i have to replace it on end to the other or just patch it. the boat is an 85 sea ray 230 thanks ted

    old gas

comparing apples to oranges, years ago i bought a jd hay baler with a wisconsin engine that had been stored and covered for 12 yrs with mytesry oil. it didn't run perfectly but it did start and did run well enough to bale hay. i guess it all depends on how it was stored my two cents ted
