  1. "What ever happened to C&R?" Probably the same thing that happened to respect towards others. Let me guess, you wish people weren't allowed to own guns, shoot bambi, or eat veal? If you wish to C&R, great. If every day you wish to keep every fish you catch over 18"/21"(steelie) until you limit, great. That's YOUR choice, but leave my choice alone. Go fall in the lake. Nick
  2. No fleas yet, but cotton type stuff. Not sure exactly what it was, but seemed to be some sort of those seeds that float off trees all mushed togeter to form an almost cotton substance. It was nerely impossible to rip off the line and had to be unwrapped. Only good thing was it didn't slide down your line to your lure while trolling and when you reel in it would slide down the line no problem. So not too bad of a nuisance. Nick
  3. Man I looked at a map when I got back, we weren't even half way across! It REALLY makes you realize how big Lake O is when you're out that deep. The marks we saw were all over the place. We were marking pretty steady marks at 50fow over 160fow. At 180fow we marked a bunch of fish at the 100' point. They could have been lakers, but they would have been BIG lakers. My guess was kings.... but like the browns they didn't seem to be ready to feed either. One of the guys fishing a few miles west of us did manage one nice king out there Sunday 50' down over 120fow. It's still slow, but I think 4th of july weekend is usually the date for the kings to start banging and I think this year will show the same. Al, that steelie you guys got on the board was real pretty... looked almost like a domestic rainbow. Nick
  4. Rich, Yeah I got it, sorry I completely forgot to call you back. I tried calling you multiple times from out deep, but had absolutely no signal, then just totally forgot to call. The question for Sodus will be... brown trout or steelhead? I don't think you'll do it on kings alone. Nick
  5. Saturday... After some discussion of temps possibly setting up deep, we ran deep.... then ran some more... then some more. Temps went from about 60 to 54 at the 23bar, then down to 48 with thick fog at the 25bar. The fog continued out to about the 32bar. We finally got back up to 55degrees at 35 bar and began fishing. We fished all the way to the canadian border and then all the way back into 100fow. A BIG OLD WASTE OF GAS. I tried to get ahold of fishstix and everyone else wondering how the fishing was out there, but we had zero radio reception out there and no cell phone signal (kinda a scary situation, but the lake was absolutely flat and we have two motors). We did manage 5 steelies and one small king out deep though. Nothing with much size. We never marked a thing until 350fow where we marked bait, then again at 300fow and finally at 250fow we marked a fish, which hit (one of the steelies). Then finally at 110fow a dipsey started screaming out 250 #2 setting green protroll green fly. Landed an 18lb king. Drove alllll the way out deep, only to hit a king back in 110fow... It was devastating to say the least. We ended the day and headed back in. Sunday.... Decided to go for browns after hearing fishshack's great saturday. Have I mentioned how much I hate fishing for browns? We don't have any light rods, so it's not nearly as much fun as pulling in a salmon. I'm also not very good at brown fishing, so take this report with a grain of salt. We ran west towards pultneyville and trolled east. It was too rough for us to troll west (we don't like pounding against the waves, just not fun). We managed a nice 8lb brown down 40 on a emerald shiner (thanks for the tip fishshack) stinger size. We then landed 4 or 5 more kings all under 5lbs. Most of them we didn't even know were on the lines until we pulled them to check. Not a great morning. I may take next weekend off to work on finishing my basement. But the kings were there on Sunday as well... lots of big marks in the 160-180fow range... just couldn't get them to go. Nick
  6. Damn nice job guys! We've been trying for years to get a fish on the board even if just for a day and you guys have managed to put two fish on it in a week! We should have gone out with you sunday, we had a lousy day Nick
  7. Ok let's get this puppy started. Here are my two entries from this weekend: 8lb 25 1/2" brown: 18lb 35 1/2" King: Can you boys beat it? Nick
  8. Wow you guys had more luck than all of the rest of us had the entire morning! For most of us, fishing was reallllly slow out of sodus this morning! Great job! Nick
  9. Stix, I've always had my BEST days when the lake sets up like it is now. Run over the warm water in tight, to the cold water, keep going until you hit warm water again. Only thing is, sometimes you gotta go 10miles. I won't do it if it's rough out. If it's smooth out tonight/this weekend... I'll be out there. Personally, I'd rather spend all day fishing and catching one king, than catching 5 browns. (unless I happened to catch a 14lber ) Nick
  10. wow didn't take long ... I thought you'd be up there for a while. Only thing is now... if I caught a 15lb brown to take the lead I'd be torn.... I'd want to mount the fish instead of keeping it in the freezer for 2 months.... but then I'd lose the $$.... Nick
  11. I got out for a bit this morning, landed 3 browns real quick then moved out for some king action... could only manage steelies. It had been a long time since I had fished browns... basically just put out my king setup and trolled slower 2.2mph. Any tips? Nick
  12. I forgot my camera this weekend, but Redneck from Sodus Pt has a few pictures with the poster that I'll be getting from him next weekend. 28" steelhead... it won't be official until I post though. Stix did you print out a poster? That brown you caught would be hard to beat Nick
  13. Lots of good opinions going here. One more thing I'll add.... they have to STOP changing the rules! Change this one last time and then stick to them... at least for a few years. I think that it may only be adding fuel to the fire. Nick
  14. Uh... well you bring six fish into the weigh-in. If you bring seven... pretty sure people there can count Not sure I understand your point? If you mean what if people put six fish on board and then keep fishing, catch 3 more and use some of those towards their "pot".... I think that's fine if they have 3 people on board. You're still only bringing your top 6 fish in and you still haven't broken the law. That or say you need to stop at 6 fish and it's by the honor system. It's never perfect... same thing could be said about a 9 fish limit. For me, it's just very difficult to find an observer usually, not to mention... on my smaller boat... they'd almost definitely get in the way Nick
  15. You're all nuts 1) Lose the bonus laker 2) Keep the 6 fish limit 3) Lose the need for the observer - not really a need if you can release fish 4) Allow two man teams, with no observer (can't do this if you up the limit of fish past 6, hence why I want it kept at 6) 5) Lose the can/us boundary issue 6) Open communication Nick
  16. Al, You and Ryan should print out a copy of the LOU Tournament Pic from the link below. If you had it in the pics there with measurements... you'd be leading three of the categories already http://fishing.lakeontariounited.com/vi ... php?t=1812 Nick
  17. all great info guys! Those days I tried speeding up, slowing down, changing lures, changing setbacks (although I never went shorter than 15'.. might need to try). I didn't try popping the rod as normally I'm a lazy fisherman A few great ideas here though that I'll have to try in the coming months! Nick
  18. Here is the same chart as I made last year, but updated with this year's numbers.. it was pretty close with the exception of the grand prize fish, which was over what I predicted. So sticking with that thought of the grand prize being a freak that is much bigger than the rest... I'm going to say that a 35lb 02oz fish is needed this year. Nick
  19. This past weekend at the bar, I had numerous fish that would come up off the bottom, up to my lure (~50ft delta) follow for a few seconds, then not hit. This happened so many times it was sickening. What have you guys done in the past to get these fish to hit? Nick
  20. no no, you're confused..... we complained back then too! And if they change the rules to something else.... we'll complain about that too  They'll never make all of us happy, just no way... but if we all make our opinions heard there will be a majority usually and at least most of the people can be made somewhat happy on at least that one subject  Nick
  21. I suppose we can do all species that are entered... I just didn't think many people on this board fished for other fish... but all are welcome. I won't be able to get up to the lake this weekend... so consider it a head start for everyone before I get up there and start kicking butt Nick
  22. I have mixed feelings... I LOVE the new 6 king rule. I fish a small boat (19' trophy) and very seldom have more than just me and the gf on it... which means I have almost NO practice running more than 4 rods. For my situation, the 6 king rule is great, as there are VERY few days where I catch 9 kings, let alone 9 quality kings.... so this new rule gives me a chance. Not a big fan of the laker rule.... never target them, don't know how to catch them well. All in all though, if I had a choice of keep it how it is now, or go back to the way it was.... I'd keep it the way it is simply because I feel that I have more of a chance of winning now on my small boat with a 4 or maybe 5 rod program compared to those of you with larger boats and 8 rods out. So much so, that I may join the Sodus Pro Am this year. Nick
  23. If you know how to post a picture, just do it in this thread. If you don't know how, you can send me the picture via email. Oh and final decision on fish species will be determined by the smartest person I can find (not me). Nick
  24. Let's say September 16th. Also, fish doesn't need to be caught from a boat Nick
