  1. Good job on this Nick. I wish I knew I was going to be around....I'd love to help out. I may be in Ca though, so we'll just have to wait and see.
  2. Wow...a Red Hill'er too ! We need to start a local fishing club I live 10 min. from the Nock and never fish it cause of my big pond addiction
  3. I am certain they are catching kings in the lanes right now, because Saiff just posted it on facebook a couple days ago. I plan to fish it within the next couple weeks. It's a pretty long run and there is no cell phone service out there. The people who fish it seem to keep a lid on how, where & when....reason being it's a tight troll along the wall and not many boats can work it at one time. It only takes one boat that does it wrong to mess the troll up for anyone else trolling the wall. If you don't already have a newer one, get the Eastern Basin Hot Spots chart map for Lake Ontario. It will show you the shipping lanes off of Galloo. You will see the "wall" is not strait. Stick to the lower 1/2 half and fish right along the drop off....it's steep so be on your toes or you'll go from 150 to 60 before you know it. Look around until you mark fish. On the chart, you will notice an area of the wall that dips in (south)....it's known locally as the cup. That is a good area to work in a south wind. In a west wind, fish about 2 miles SW towards the end of the wall close to the us/ca line. It's known as the honey hole. There is also the west wall and the false trench(north wind), but they are hard to explain. Hope this helps.
  4. Here is an article on fishing the shipping lanes from Bill Saiff. Just look on your map or gps...it's the deep trench just off Galoo Island. Be sure to only fish the American side unless you have a Canadian Lic. A lot of guys will troll the edge of the wall, but it's tricky because it's not strait. You need a good gps and depth finder to fish it properly. http://www.billsaiffoutdoors.com/saiff/article1.htm
  5. Here is a Video from Big Weenie on how to brine your bait.
  6. Was great seeing you again Rob.....glad you guys had a good time!!! So true....I would say it was one of my biggest challenges also with a youth team and trying to do it all by myself. In the end, you had fun and that's what matters. You'll have your day at the top soon enough...just keep at it and don't stop enjoying the moment
  7. Thanks guys....it really was great fun.....the most fun I have had fishing in a few years. I'm still smiling !! It's crazy cause we had such a rough tourney day, yet it didn't seem to matter and it was so great to see smiles on the boat coming into port even after having lost soooo many fish. Not sure yet Nick. Was gonna put the boat there yesterday, but left it at Jon's Little Salmon shop instead till I get back up. Probably two weeks...I'll let you know & I can't wait I know, right? I'm Just glad we have it at all! We are so lucky and to think so many have never experienced it. Quakertown, eh? PM me sometime....would be nice to meat a local here in PA who has the same addiction I seem to have
  8. I headed to Oswego with my 13 yr old son Justin, his buddy Jordan and our dog. The Plan was to stay In our RV parked at Jon's little salmon shop and put the boat at Wrights In Oswego. Except for one trip this spring before the boat was really ready, this was the first trip for Lucky Enuff Since fall of 2011. The boat ran great the whole trip...the new top worked out great and I was really super happy with it considering she's now 35 years old ! Once we got settled In, our first order of business was to get out on the lake and do some swimming to beat the heat. I ran out to 200 fow and while I got things ready the kids got wet. I noticed as we were sitting over 200 swimming, I marked a lot of fish. Once we were cooled off, I set up right there and started trolling a 5 rod spread and within 5 minutes Jordan had his first ever fish....a small Steelhead. Since this was Jordan's first time fishing, Justin agreed to let him reel In all the fish on day one and Justin would do the netting. A few minutes after the steelhead was released, Jordan was Back on the rod fighting his first salmon Friday was a little more serious.....just a little. We were fishing the A-Tom-mic challenge and the boys were going to do everything, so I taught Justin how to set the down riggers. He did a great job once he got the hang of it. We searched for a good class of fish. We started out from the college and fished east. We found the big fish we were looking for I'n front of the nuke plant In 200 to 230 fow. It was mostly a flasher fly bite, with the Big Weenie spook, Big Weenie Dominator and Big Weenie Rolling Rock all doing well.....along with a few others. Wires were good parked between 250 and 275 and our best riggers were 80 to 110. The kids ended the afternoon with a respectable box with their 6 biggest close to 100 lbs. I knew if we could continue to improve they had a chance to be In the $$ on Sat.... The boys best 3 on Friday.. 22, 21 and 17 lb kings. They dropped a good one too, so they were excited to see what Sat. would bring. Sat. Morning was a 3:30 wake up and we would be joined by Jon...owner of Jon's little Salmon Bait and Tackle In Mexico. My plan was to fish the same 200 fow zone as the day before In front of the plant. I wanted to set up In 100 and troll out, but that would have been hard setting up with a brisk NW wind, so we set up over 230 fow. We were into fish fast, and I threw back several fish early. We put a 17 lb king In the box when Jon and Justin were doubled. Both came to the boat at the same time, so we netted one, but the other popped off the hook. That was a sign of things to come, as fish after fish were dropped. I would say by the end of the day we lost as many as 15....a few of them being In the 20lb class. Our lack of team experience kinda got us on Sat, as we also lost a 500 copper, snapped a down rigger rod In half, tangled the 400 copper with the wire and broke the tip off the 300 copper rod....lol. My decision to throw back those fish In the morning came back to bite me, and the kids went In a fish short and only one decent king, but nothing like the day before. I think Jon had a good time watching the boys, even though they were pretty whooped and a little down because they got spoiled the day before. As we pulled rods for the day to head In, one of the boys noticed this cloud and mentioned that the fish god was looking down on us....check out the fish head coming up out of the clouds!! In the end it was a ton of exhausting work and we didn't have a good tourney day as far as our box of fish was concerned, but having the experience with the two boys and my buddy Jon was something I will forever cherish and it really put tournament fishing back into perspective for me. For me, if I can do something like this with kids, that is really where it's at. These boys want another shot, and I'll gladly give up my time to give it to them. Hopefully next time you'll see Lucky Enuff on the leader board and behind that name will be a couple smiling kids ! All In all it was great and the new lucky Enuff team took one on the chin but the boys will be back out training In a couple weeks and they want to give it another go In the Pro Am open division.
  9. Hey Tom, Just curious, Is this country of yours a democracy or dictatorship ? Sorry bud....I couldn't help myself
  10. Great topic Ray! I did this with a teammate in the spring....the results were stunning!! Exactly....and I gotta say it's way more important than I ever realized up until this year. Counters on reels are only "somewhat" accurate if the spool is full. And furthermore, your retrieval per turn is so much higher with a full spool....takes way less cranking to reel in a fish It's common sense I guess, but when you do the math it's like, holy crap! So in other words....when someone says 220 dipsey is smoking, there are a ton of variables there so it don't mean 220 is gonna be the number that works for you.
  11. You have the good shirt too...that was our first one and I love that shirt!! That was a fun shirt and I'm gonna have more made one of these days. BTW...got your text...I just got back from the tightlines shootout in Ca. so let me look into it.
  12. I don't know you Tim, nor am I aware of the "rumor" about your shirt sponsors but the way I see it is it really depends on who is saying it as to whether it has validity or if it's just someone being childish. It's not really for me to say and I don't know who you have on your shirt, but when we had our shirts made for the two teams that I fish on I made damn sure every company approved it first and I also made sure every company was aware of the other sponsors that were on our shirt. There's a lot of inner politics going on most of us are unaware of and plenty of companies would not want to be represented on the same shirt as another. Secondly, most companies are very protective of there name, image and reputation. I personally would not want a name on my shirt if I was not directly affiliated and/or on the Pro staff of that company. It just seams like an easy way to piss people off and make enemies. I personally think the whole clique think that goes on with some of the Pro Staffs is kinda nauseating, and that is what makes me so happy I hooked up with the sponsors I did. I think some of you guys take this stuff a little too seriously. We keep it light and have fun. We have our shirts for one reason only, it's our way to represent the companies that we are directly associated with, and I would never even consider promoting a company that didn't do something special for me far beyond and above what they do for every other fishermen that may use their product.....but that's just me I guess. Seriously dude? You may be giving yourself a tad bit too much credit... Hey...try being a Big Weenie team in A-Tom-Mic country My opinion about being a tournament team....have fun, be respectful and friendly, fish honestly, play by the rules, and beyond that stop giving a crap about what anyone else thinks. Like one of my sponsors always tells me...if they don't like it, they can go f@#k themselves...
  13. Been wondering if anyone has tried fly spray for horses...seems like it would be the ticket! I have it on my tractor supply shopping list.
  14. OK, I had to try Tom. Thanks for the answer, even if it's not what I want to hear Hope to be there a couple days early to whip these kids into shape!
  15. Looking forward to this Tom It's just gonna be me and two or three kids, so I should have my hands full! I have a stupid question, but that has never stopped me before. The rule states Now, It doesn't say teams must....only that they may. Would you please clarify. I know if I were allowed to leave from Sodus it would save me a whole lot of work and some extra dock slip expenses. I expect to be told I cannot fish out of Sodus, but I have to at least ask cause the rule is a little gray.... Thanks & we'll see you all in a couple weeks
  16. I agree, go to Jon's Little Salmon shop just down the road from Mikes. Jon will hook you up with what's working The brand is personal preference, but flies and flashers are a good gift Myself....I prefer Big Weenie Brand flies and wouldn't use anything else.....but they all catch fish
  17. I know and I agree Nick. And it's justified, but for some reason we have seen again and again through the years that the venting is taken to a level that becomes (IMO) counterproductive and sheds a negativity upon a series that doesn't deserve it. Think about it....4 tourneys a year x 2 days each = 8 individual tournament days, right? Compare that to the WHI which is 1 day a year. Just saying it must be hard to get everything right to everyone's liking every time in a series of this magnitude. So that spawns more discussion, as it should. It would just be nice to see a gentlemen's discussion so we don't feed the hate of the Iceman's of this site....know what I mean? I know what you are saying. I'd like to hear the reason for that to. Maybe we can get someone to look into this and get us an answer as to why it's done this way? I know if both days were cancelled and that actually happened there would certainly be a mutiny!!
  18. The Pro Am's are far from perfect. But in all fairness they are no worse than most tournaments when it comes to your above complaints than just about any other event on the lake. Foe example, I am fishing the Tightlines Shootout in two weeks and I can't find anything on the site about captains meeting time or place. The King of the lake site has seriously lacked updates as well, though Ivan is good about getting back to you if you contact him. Matt is having trouble with the Tightlines right now over a check they say they didn't get....yet already cashed ! It goes on and on....I don't mean to kick anyone in the shin, I'm just pointing out that they are all flawed to a point. Anyone who fishes tournaments will have their share of misfortune. I remember sitting at the dock in 2010 on day two of the St Catherines spring KOTL looking out at what we felt was fishable water. Our team was in second place, just a couple pounds out of first and we wanted to fish BAD. Same thing though....small craft and day two got called and we had to settle for second. That's tourney fishing fellas. It stinks big time and I hope it gets fixed, but tons of big water & big money saltwater tournaments go with the same small craft advisory policy.... I think what happened this past Saturday is a shame and they need to revisit that policy. Do you guys think you could do better running a tournament of this magnitude? If they can't meet your expectations, would you prefer they ceased to exist? I couldn't imagine how difficult it is to pull these events off and when they go well (which they usually do), you hear nothing. No praise...no nothing except maybe someone complaining that the results were to slow forthcoming. These guys bust their azz for us and this is the thanks they get? Constructive criticism is one thing, but...... Heaven forbid something goes amiss and look out....the stones start flying. Just saying.... Sorry, I couldn't help myself. OK, I'm done ....Back to your regularly scheduled bashing...
  19. Of course not Paul...only this season my friend and in fairness to you I limited it to one fish no longer than 50". I thought that was fair enough, don't you? The team thanks you for your generosity
  20. Nick don't do browns....right Nick You know, in hindsight, you and I shoulda fished browns day two a few years ago when we fished the Sodus Pro Am together and we probably woulda finished first instead of second.
  21. Team Oh Baby is looking for an observer for The Tightlines Shootout, which will be held on June 16, 2012 at Bluffer's Park Marina in Toronto, Ontario. PM me if interested Thanks!!
