  1. Dsco....I use my wire dipsey rigs for dropper weights. I've never tried the copper rod, but I guess The copper would work. However, given the two choices, I personally prefer the wire rod. It was a very good set up for me last summer once I started using it, but we use it as a thumper and didn't actually drop the weight. This year though, I have "echo friendly" weights that are safe to drop and contain no lead.
  2. I agree with the credit card hold Bob. That's the reason I use credit cards in certain situations. It's nice to have that option. I'll be very interested in hearing how he handles this, and if he makes good by you.
  3. Thanx man, I'll give it a go this summer
  4. Hmmmm, since I have 2000 ft, maybe I'll just go ahead and add that 500. I figured with all that copper out, the hook-up ratio would be really poor off the board. I guess the mood of the fish on any given day would factor into that hook-up ratio. What boards are you running the copper on, your big boards or small ones?
  5. Hey guys, on the subject of copper, I have a lil question. I am revamping my copper rigs this year. I bought 2 Penn 345 gti's, 1 Penn 340 gti and one Penn 330 gti. I also ordered a 2000' spool of copper from Tom. My intent this year is to go with a 600, 400, 300 and 200 ( Last year I ran a 600 & 500 only) My thinking is that the short ones, when run, would usually be off the boards. If I run 500 or 600 out, I have been running that out the shute as a tailgunner. So......I skipped out on the 500 figuring I would use the 600 for that situation, but only run out 500 of it and leave 100 on the spool. Do you see any problems in doing that? What do you guys do ? Do any of you run your 500 or 600 off the board? If so, what's your hook-up ratio???? Thanks
  6. Go with wire for the dipsey & copper as it's own setup. Personally, I wouldn't use the copper with a dipsey. Several problems come to mind, with the most obvious one being the different sink rate. Without doing tests, how whould you know your depth? Wire is around 3 to 1...right? That would not hold true if you used copper. Besides that, I'm not sure a copper knot could hold up over time to the stress of a dipsey strike. If I were forced to use copper in that situation (say all my wire rods had bird nests  ), I'd use a copper rig as a thumper rig long before I'd attempt using it as a dipsey rig.
  7. Nope....wish I could. They are interesting, in that they seem to be coated with a translucent tinted epoxy, instead of opaque paint.
  8. Boy Chad....your really on top of things!! I think what your doing with this site, and for all us fisherman is truly commendable!! Thank you for all your hard work and dedication! The buddy list is a great idea.
  9. At the moment......I am about sold out of these spoons. I have a few of the purple/blk and chart/blue yet, but no more green/chart/wht.
  10. Good Idea Ray. I'd bet chad would have some good insight on how to set that up, and so far the numbers look pretty in favor of some sort of buddy list.
  11. I think that's a good choice. I have the Moor sub troll. I might be mistaken, but isn't the Raider a little cheaper?? I bought mine through Cabelas....reasonable price from what I recall.
  12. I have about 10 sets of 5 left and that's pretty much it....
  13. If the three of you get out........Take some pictures for us !!

  16. She does have a sister....cute too !! We decided to do the Florida thing, but my going was not without it's stipulations. She wants to tag along so she can tan while we are out fishing....I can agree to that !!!!!! I think we still want to get up there ice fishing though....my son keeps asking to do that.
  17. Will do Corey. I told the wife and she said "why don't you go". What a woman!!!!!!!!
  18. After sleeping on it.....what would one little trip to Florida hurt.... That sportfishing trip sounds great! I think we would be into that
  19. Cdelong....very tempting, but I promised the wife I wouldn't go to Florida this winter. I'm supposed to be saving for a new summer camp, but at the rate I'm buying new fishing stuff, I'm not doing very vell with the saving aspect. Next time maybe gokudl3.....my kid would love to go to the Niagera! Could you, or others, expand a bit on what I'd need and how I'd fish it? Like I said...I never fished the cold months, so this will be real new to me. Thanks!!
  20. Hey guys!! Any ideas on where I can take my 9yr old fishing over x-mas vacation?? He's pretty hardcore like his dad, so he'll do fine with the elements as long as it's reasonable. He just wants to get out, and so do I!! Where can I take him....any ideas on a somewhat kid friendly spot?? This is new to me...we would typically head closer to the equator to winter fish, so any ideas, tips, tricks, techniques or anything else would be really appreciated
  21. Thanks Dave.....I'm on it !!!!!! I also found a company that has them in chart/blue prism and also in purple prism. They said they'd give me a deal if I bought them all, about 100 in total. I'm buying them and I'll sell half of them to recoup my $$ and keep the rest.
