    Anybody see any fleas yet?

I use that advantage II and it seems to work on the fleas. I get it from pet meds

Does the oil smell like gear oil , there is a distinct difference between engine oil and gear oil . If it's gear oil and seemingly coming from the bellows you have a bad upper seal on the input shaft on the outdrive . If it's engine oil , it's coming out the engines exhaust and you probably have valve seals , piston rings going south .

I agree with Chinook on the pressure testing if it's 90 wt gear oil on the ground .

If the drive shaft seal is leaking , the gear oil will be contained in the drive shaft bellows and you may see it in the bilge if it gets past the gimbal bearing. No way will you see it as an external drip unless the bellows is torn or punctured.

  3. Don’t get discouraged. I’ve been fishing Lady O since the late 70’s   We all have great days and not so great days

Capt Dan Keating said something that I’ve always felt was a deal maker “ salmon fishing is more like hunting than fishing , you’re got to find them to catch them “  they are here today gone tomorrow . 90 % of the water is a desert. When you find fish work them. Don’t leave fish to find fish

  4. Not fun. You say it cranks but won’t start. That year should have a point and condenser  ignition system. I would start there. Check cap and rotor. Clean and gap points   Replace spark plugs   Also fuel and filters

ABYC Cable & Wire Color Codes for Yacht, Boat & Marine Wiring

Explanation of the boat and marine wire and cable color codes with applications

    • RED: Positive Mains “+” i.e. Positive Conductor in the DC supply “L+”
    • BLACK or YELLOW: Negative Mains “-” i.e. Negative Conductor in the DC supply “L-“
    • YELLOW with Red Stripe: It is used for starting switch to solenoid or/ used for  generator to the regulator field terminal.
    • BROWN: It is used for three different boat accessories i.e. 1) wire generator armature to the regulator, 2) fuse or switch to pumps or lights,  3) generator terminal to the alternator or light to regulator.
    • BROWN with Yellow Stripe: It is used to wire the switch or fuse to the blower.
    • DARK BLUE: It is used to connect the fuses and Switches to the light.
    • LIGHT BLUE: It is used to wire oil pressure lenders to the gauge.
    • TAN: It is used to wire the water temperature to the sender gauge.
    • ORANGE: Its is used for there types of boat wiring i.e  it is used to 1) wire distribution panels to accessory switches, 2) Ammeter to alternator and generator output, 3) boat accessory fuses or switches.
    • PURPLE: It is used for two purposes i.e. 1) wire an ignition switch to the coil and electrical instruments, 2) wire the distribution panel to electrical instruments in a marine.
    • PINK: It is used to wire the boat  fuel gauge senders to the gauge.
    • GRAY: It is also used to connect three marine accessories i.e. 1) tachometer sender to gauge, 2) Fuses of switches to lights, 3) or used as a bonding wire (if insulated).
    • GREEN or GREEN with Yellow Stripe:These are bonding wires i.e. these colors coded cables are used for bonding in a boat (if insulated).

  6. I don’t think Lady O uses the weather apps or forecasts. She has a mind of her own. I get that it’s a bummer to get to the launch and the 1-3 ft waves forecast are clearing the 10 ft breakwall. I’ve been there too many times. I only live 10 mles from the lake , but anyone traveling distance would naturally like to know what to expect. Unfortunately, it’s a crap shoot   One thing I’ve learned over the years. Add 1 ft to ANY wave prediction from anywhere. If it says 1-3 ft. You can bet on 2-4   Good luck. It is what it is

  7. Shift cable bellows is a chore  get the manual before you start   I replaced the lower shift cable two years ago   I had to do it twice !! The cheap lower cable I bought on Amazon was too sticky. The seller refunded my money   I bought sierra cable and that was the ticket.  Not a fun job

I got scammed badly on 2 fish finders on FB Marketplace. the 1st one didn't have a PP account but found a friend that let him use his but we had to do friends and family. after I paid I never heard from either of them again. the 2nd one didn't have a PP account either. after a few days, he came up with the idea of paying with Zelle through my bank and as soon as he was paid I never heard from him again. So now if it's more than a few bucks I will only pay with PP goods and services.

NEVER Use friends and family to pay for anything unless it’s your mom or dad. You have NO way of getting your money back if it’s a scam   The web is infested with scammers   Another trick they use is PM. As soon as they want PM or email it’s adios MF

  9. Magee canvas in Brewerton does excellent work. They used to bring their mobile trailer to Chaumont every other week. Not sure if it is still an option. I’ve had several tops and cockpit covers made by them and can attest to their work

As a vet I just ordered a pass. One question, at an unattended boat launch like Irondequoit bay what do you leave on your dash to prove you qualify for a free launch? I guess you leave the pass, right?l Any thoughts? Thanks!

According to the parks website , you use your license and the pass in the machine. It will give you a free receipt for your dash

The thermostat was open when I pulled it out this morning before starting so I suspect it is stuck open.  It “made oil” during this mornings trip so I shut it down and ran my main instead.

    Made oil ??!

Some good advice above.  Hope it is a simple fix!  I dont think it was mentioned already but dont run it with milky oil.  That could cause significant damage.  If you change it and it is milky after one or two trips, I would think there is something else wrong.  Doubt a couple of trips would add enough water via condensation to turn the oil milky.  The oil in my old 4 stroke kicker looks perfectly normal after running in cold water barely above idle.  This is a good reminder to everyone to check their oil before every trip!

I agree  Change oil and filter before further use. If it happens after another trip or two ( check frequently ) I’d be looking for cracked crankcase or head or blown head gasket

  13. All you NY veterans !! NY has a new pass that gets you into most state parks and DeC run parks ( including free boat launches )

    apply through the parks website

You need proof of service (DD214 , etc)

I got mine today. Should save a lot of money

  14. Many years of experience have taught me there is NO accurate wind prediction. I use NOAA marine forecast to get a general go - no go idea  I will add 1 foot to ANY prediction

if it’s calling for 1-3 you can bet on 2-4

bottom line , what you see when you get to the lake is what you get

I’ve sat in the parking lot. Many  times watching the 1-3 waves clearing the breakwall

I was up in Rochester this past weekend for the LOCBA fishing flea market and I couldn’t get over the number of lighted message boards alerting drivers about the eclipse and to expect travel delays. I guess they expect that drivers are just gonna stop on the highways and watch it happen.

That’s not as funny as it sounds. Years ago the local ford/chevy/ everything dealer had a promotion he had Robbie Knieval here to jump like 150 cars. Rt 11 , a major 2 lane , had that exact thing happen. It became a parking lot , north and southbound lanes were totally blocked for 10 miles. People just got out of their cars and left them in the middle of the road. There is a golf course near the venue , and hundreds of cars parked on the fairways and greens. Tow trucks couldn’t get to them to tow.  So I can see this happening for the eclipse

  16. I live in Watertown, right in the direct path. The city is warning of chaos  180000 extra people expected , traffic gridlock , the Watertown airport is expecting 157 inbound flights , they normally have 2-3 per day  There are several streets being closed on the 8 th. The hospital has issued a special code. Only ER will be open for business. This should be an experience. I’m going to sit in my yard with a nice rum punch and watch the eclipse and the fun

That fishbox drain just looks way too low to me. I can't see how that does not take in all kinds of water.

And anything but a bronze thru hull below the waterline is just asking to sink
