And I believe by law any fellow boater is by law responsible to assist a distressed boat

In the United States, a federal statute (46 U.S. Code sec. 2304) requires the master of any vessel subject to U.S. jurisdiction to “render assistance to any individual found at sea in danger of being lost,” so long as the assistance can be rendered without endangering the rescuing vessel or individuals on board. This law is a part of an international treaty (the International Convention on Salvage, 1989) which extends the obligation to mariners throughout the world. The statute includes criminal penalties that may include jail time for failing to render assistance.

Snap weights six foot in front of your lures work well' Side planer boards put your lures away from the boat where the fish flee from your boat in shallow water.  Long lines are a waste of time. In shallow waters snags are a big problem when stopping or turning the boat. Use floating stickbaits only, spinners or spoons are snag magnets. Water temperatures are needed to work warmer near shore waters. Dirty or muddy water has clear water under them with sunlight restricted by the dirty water. Fish hate the high sun usually after 8:00 AM you will move offshore to find more fish. J13 Rapalas are hot lures for Kings early nearshore in the spring. Big fish like bigger lures. Glow reds and chartreuse are good.

I’ve caught too many fish to count using long lines. I use neutral buoyancy stick  baits ( husky jerks ) to stop the problem of snagging bottom. A lot of early spring fishing is done in 5 ft of water

  3. We fished before boards were introduced. I fish the Eastern end of the lake. Oswego harbor to nine mile pt. Was our stomping grounds  loooong lines are key. In shallow water the boat spooks the fish , so very long ( 150-175 ) lines are necessary. Good luck

  4. All very interesting answers. I agree that Brandon is an inept , probably demented , total disaster. But we can put our money where our mouths are. I just sent a healthy donation to a BBB accredited Ukraine relieve website. I’ll buy less tackle and fuel if it means helping these poor refugees .  The US should open its borders to these displaced women and children.  Brandon doesn’t mind the illegal immigrants from our southern border. Let’s give these people a home. Temporary or permanent. And it’s time to think about stopping Putin before it’s too late. He doesn’t seem to fear radiation ☢️

  5. That “big rich company “ is assemblyman Will Barkley. He went to court and got a ruling that he owned 2.5 miles of prime fishing water on the salmon River  because he owned property on both banks of the river , he owned the bottom of the river   It is trespassing to wade the river in this stretch   He is making a fortune charging to fish , what I maintain is public fishing   If this    Pay for access continues , fishing will be limited to those that can afford the fees. The rich get richer.  No one should “own” a stream.

I am looking for some type of cell signal amplifier to use on my boat.  Other than communication, I use my cell for weather radar updates out on the Lake.  Ideally I would be nice to have the Sirius/XM Weather receiver, but the receiver and new display I would need is expensive.   Does anyone out there have a solution for boosting the signal received from land based cell towers that will improve my cell reception on the boat?

Buy a VHF radio    The coast guard monitors ch 16. You get weather alerts  and you can always get help from fellow boaters in an emergency

  8. I let them suck onto my arm. My buddies wife was going over the side when I yelled “it’s got me “. We caught her just in time. Seriously, the blood and slime are toxic to humans. Wash your hands after handling / cutting them into little chunks   I’ve heard of people eating them. No thanks

Here is a topic for discussion. I’d like to hear everyone’s take on this. I have been in search of a certain electronics upgrade since the end of the fishing season. I searched every venue , local , online , large and small marine suppliers , and the manufacturer's web site ( I’m not naming names at this time )  the price was invariably the same all over. Ok. I’ll wait for black Friday or cyber Monday   No good price was the same   I found one site with a best offer   I offered what I am willing to pay ( not a ton below the asking price , I wasn’t lowballing )  got a counter offer for the exact price offered everywhere. I am asking the federal trade commission and my state’s AG to look into this  if it’s price fixing. It’s illegal. Any input ? This seems to happen a lot in the marine / fishing environment

Just an update. The deals are out there if you look. I just received my Garmin echomap uhd 73cv AND a 50/200 dual frequency transducer , for under $600 for the pair and that includes shipping and tax. Thanks for all the input and advice

I am one of the largest marine electronics dealer/installers on Lake Ontario's South shore I will put my $.02 in. In order to sell most companies high end stuff dealers have to sign a re-sellers agreement not to advertise below Manufacturers Advertised Pricing (MAP). More and more electronics companies have gone to this. This gives the brick and mortar vs the internet dealer the same shot at business in my opinion and puts everyone on the same playing field. Mark up on these electronics is HORRIBLE as it is. That being said with our install business at the marina we sometimes can discount items since we have the service business to go with the sale of the product. I can also go to a trade show, like the Niagara Outdoor Expo, and sell for whatever I want there as long as I don't advertise it. We had over $200,000 in product (cost not retail) that we were bringing to that show. I still have a lot of that product on an order, which most has been tough to get your hands on. If anyone's interested I will have that order sometime in mid February.

To the original posters comment if it was illegal I would think these big companies legal teams would not let them do it, but everyone of them do it. It's been this way for many years. Also, if you PM me and tell me what you want I can see what I can do for you.

  11. Well here’s the final word on the subject. Pay the price or do without

    Legal Status of Minimum RPM

In 1911, the U.S. Supreme Court held that minimum RPM arrangements are per se illegal when a manufacturer agrees with retailers on a minimum retail price.[19] A loophole was created in 1919 when the Court allowed manufacturers to unilaterally impose minimum RPM, provided there was no agreement with retailers. In what is known as the “Colgate Doctrine,” the Court noted that antitrust law, in particular the Sherman Act, “does not prevent a manufacturer engaged in a private business from announcing in advance the prices at which his goods may be resold and refusing to deal with wholesalers and retailers who do not conform to such prices.”[20] Passed in 1890, the Sherman Act was the first U.S. federal antitrust statute.  It was designed to promote competition by limiting the monopolistic restraint of trade and certain types of monopolization of markets.

  12. I’ve caught lots of them ice fishing at Oneida lake and at Sandy pond. We would just leave them in the ice as unwanted by catch. One day an old guy told us they were good to eat, just take the meat from the vent back. He lied .  by the way. We called them lings

  13. You are very wrong. Manufactures can SUGGEST a retail price. They cannot set a minimum price. That’s price fixing and is against the law.  I work hard for my money and will not sit by and let unscrupulous manufacturers and distributers get away with breaking the law. The free enterprise system should dictate prices , not some greedy manufacturer   If I want to sell a product below suggested retail , that’s my business. If a manufacturer penalizes me for it , that’s the FTC’s business. My gear and boat have already been maintained and are ready to go , thank you
