  1. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): 4/10/11 Time on Water: 1 - 6 pm Weather/Temp: scattered showers Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: Surface Temp: 42-44 Location: Mexico Bay and south past Otter Creek LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 5 Total Boated: 3 Species Breakdown: Hot Lure: sticks Trolling Speed: 1.8 - 2.4 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 6-15 Lure Depth: ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== While big kids had soccer and dance, hit the lake w/ the little ones and they were glad to get out on the water for first time this year. With their help driving, setting lines, and monitoring the snack bag we landed three fish. Two fish on Smithwick sticks (blue/silver/orange, black/silver/orange), one on J-9 black and silver - bigger seemed to be the ticket for us today. Great day with great fishing partners!! Yes, that's a cast on her leg - quite the trooper and boat driver! With sister in a cast, he's hard to beat to the rod!
  2. Bottom-feeder, there's enough water in the creek, just take it slow. russ
  3. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): April 7 Time on Water: 7 am - 1200 Weather/Temp: 28 at ramp, warmed into 40's Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: < 1 Surface Temp: 40-42 Location: Stoney Creek, close to Henderson LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 3 Total Boated: 2 Species Breakdown: Browns Hot Lure: Goby Kaboom Trolling Speed: 2.0-2.4 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 15-20 Lure Depth: 10 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Shakedown cruise, great day on the water! Normal partners all had plans but couldn't pass up the good weather so went alone, always interesting driving while landing fish. Hit the 7.5 lb er at 1030 and the small one around 1145, both in about 15-20 feet of water close to a break.
  4. I went to Butterfield yesterday am 8-1230 or so, very slow. I caught several little ones and one 3-4 lb. Caught the bigger one on a watermelon beaver in 12-15 ft water, off a deep weed edge. I did get into some crappie last week as well. russ

    Saratoga Lake?

Headed down to Saratoga Springs from Ft. Drum for a soccer tournament on Saturday am and considering whether it's worth dragging the boat to hit Saratoga Lake? Anyone have any recommendations for Saratoga or any other lakes in the area? Appreciate any feedback. Thanks russ
  7. Sent you a pm, looking to plan a trip this spring or summer. russ
  8. Saw your posts while looking for fishing info for Canada. I'm looking to drive up from Watertown, NY 22-25 May for some smallmouth fishing, what lake would you recommend?
  9. Looking at the new Lowrance HDS series and they list two dual freq transducer options, 83/200 and 50/200, which would be better for Lake O fishing? They describe the 83/200 as "for water 900' or less" and the 50/200 for deep water/off shore. russ
  10. Thanks much for the feedback, I appreciate your input and your posts during fishing season! russ
  11. I'm looking to upgrade my fishfinder to a Lowrance 500 series but wondered about the difference in watts and the types of transducers. For watts - how much difference does 2500 watts vs 4000 watts make when trolling? For transducer - one has a 50/200 khz transducer and one has a 200 khz transducer? Is it worth the extra money for greater watts and teh 50/200 khz transducer? thanks russ
  12. Caught our first king on a wire dipsy setup in the Trench out of Henderson Harbor this pm. 23 lbs, 270 back on 2, 115 fow, grn sd, green/silver fly. Appreciate all the info gleaned from this site, awesome to score our first time out! Yes, we forgot the big net at home, but we made it work! russ
  13. Thanks, that's what I figured, oh well.... guess I'll just have to buy some more reels
  14. I have a diawa 27LC and an Okuma MAG20PRO and wondered if I can get enough wire on them to use for a dipsy set-up so I don't have to buy two more reels?
  15. Yesterday, I caught a bullhead while fishing with my wife and kids just off the river channel east of Wellesley Island State Park that weighed 10 lbs 7 oz on my digital scales and was longer than my 24" fish ruler! Being from the south, I knew it was a pretty good fish but didn't think much of it as we took a few pics and released it back into the lake - then I read on-line tonight that it would have qualified as a NY State Record! I know it wasn't a channel cat, but I'm not sure whether it was a brown or a black bullhead. All the pics were on a disposable 35mm camera, so no pics for now. We were fishing for minnows and bass w/ crawdads and minnows when it started taking line on the old Zebco 33. Definitely made for a good afternoon. russ
  16. Where are you located, I'm at Ft. Drum but might be driving down to Fair Haven tomorrow?
  17. Looking for two manual downriggers, have been looking at canon unitroll 10s or scotty's, with swivel mounts
  18. I appreciate you taking the guys fishing! I'm in John Linde's unit here at Ft. Drum and we all appreciate the great support from everyone in the North Country. I didn't know John but did attend his funeral to represent all our Soldiers still in Iraq - he was definitely an awesome man! Thanks again, Tight Lines!
  19. On the water by 5:15 am, fished until 9:00, two browns by 7:00, one 6.5 and one 3.5. Fished from the creek then south in 5-15 fow, water temp 51.5 on surface. Great morning to be on the water.
  20. This is my first year to try catching browns in LO and I've learned a ton from this website and GLA. I also read about all the guys using planer boards but was hesitant to drop the money for the planer mast and stuff. I have a set of the Offshore inline boards but wanted to try the planer boards. I looked around on the web for some plans and around the house for supplies, then rigged up a system that has worked out this past couple of weeks. I made one starboard planer board using some pine boards to follow the plans from this website: http://planerboard.blogspot.com/ As for a mast, I'm using a 4' piece of 3" PVC pipe I had laying around and standing it up over the pole for my seat on the front deck of my boat. I put in a couple of eye bolts to run the line through. I'm using weedeater trimmer line sprayed with silicone for the planer line. For clips, I'm using the extra line releases that came with my Offshore Inline boards and i bought a package of shower curtain rings at Wal-Mart (they look just like the releases and rings in the Off-shore package at Gander). Total cost is about $10 and I've caught my first ever browns plus a walleye of 7.5 lbs - my biggest ever (then I released him of course...) the first time I used the setup. My buddy and I ran two lines off the planer board on one side and two off the inline boards on the other side of the boat. One morning all fish came off the planer board lines, the next day all came off the inline boards.
  21. Went out of Stony this morning 6-9 am. Caught one brown and one 7.5 lb walleye fishing in 5-12 fow, both by 7:15. Water was back down to 46-48 south of the mouth.
  22. Any difference in catch rate b/w using Hi Vis and Clear main lines (I'll still be running a fluorocarbon leader)?
  23. I'm looking for ideas on how to do a temp install of two manual downriggers on my boat w/out drilling holes on the gunnel. I don't have a rail or gimbals. I've seen a couple of pics where guys mounted the riggers on 2x6s but I can't see how they mount the 2x6 on their boat, I was thinking of using a seat post but would still need to secure it on the sides of the boat I think. Any ideas appreciated.
