I need to book two charter boats at the same time, out of the same port (west side) on Memorial day weekend. First off, will this be possible (not sure of tournaments, etc that weekend) and if so, who do you guys recommend? Thanks for any info you can share.

The only time I've ever witnessed them was at Catharine creek in the middle of April. It was an unseasonably warm spring and they were as far up as the power station. The ugly critters were everywhere you looked - including hanging from trees As for the inlet, you could probably find them after any high water event in May, within the first couple miles upstream of the fish ladder.

Nice fish btw bulldog. That second steely is a bruiser. Tim, I agree with all but the fish on the far right which you can fully see. Not trying to argue just become informed or help inform others. Click on the pic to enlarge it. Those are Atlantic markings (a bit larger, v-shaped, and extending further down on the body than a typical coho). The fish also appears to have less than 13 rays in the anal fin.

Take another look at the fsh on the far right. Looks like Atlantic markings to me.

Completely water dependent, and the fish don't stick around long. Your best bet is the power station and below.

I will start it off - went out last night from about 11:30-2:00. There were around 10 people fishing for salmon. I witnessed 3 solid king hookups with 0 landed, and 1 laker ~10 lbs landed. Not really sure what the laker was thinking as the water was piss warm. The action is obviously not fast and furious yet, but keep this thread going with your reports. Its heating up!

I also think about this issue all year and am willing to contribute time and effort for this stream. I like your ideas and I would love to contribute if you choose to try the petition again, or go a different route.

A lower limit/C&R doesn't sit well only with the people who choose to be ignorant and consistently abuse the fishery. I don't understand why this amazing stream isn't a higher priority for the DEC. In a state of put and take trout fishing, wild streams as this should be set on a pedestal.

If anyone is bored after dark, take a ride down to the docks at sandy. There is yelling and fighting, tight-lines every 6 inches, people camped out on the docks as close to one another as possible and surrounded by garbage, etc. What a mess of ignorance that place is. One of you should attach that floating dock to your boat and haul the platform of idiots out to 500 fow.

Sounds like a lot of people are marking plenty of fish around the genny without much success. Is this typical for this time of year? Where are the majority of the fish marked - bottom? How deep? I'm looking for some insight on how to fish these beasts from the piers. Last year they didn't seem to hit unless I was dragging bottom but that gets expensive at 5 bucks a cleo!

I was out on the Charlotte pier fishing from about 8 to 9 pm last night. Saw no fish, hooked no fish - throwing glow wobblers and cleos. Saw a couple of other guys on the Summerville pier but not sure how they did. A couple of friends and I will be fishing Charlotte or Summerville for much of Friday night. Give me a shout if you want to meet up!

I'd also like to add that Skamanias are actually late winter through spring spawners, even though they enter the streams before the other strains. Domestic rainbows are simply rainbows which have been altered, or tricked into spawning in the fall. This is done through hatcheries controlling the amount of light the fish see during the day, as well as the temperature of the water. This is why we see these fish so colorful early in the season - they are in full force spawn mode. I have seen plenty of steelhead with the same beautiful colors, but usually not for a good 4 months - when they are getting ready for the spawn. I think that if domestics were to get natural reproduction for enough years then they would eventually go back to the spring spawn also.

That would make things better but the main creek has the most potential for reproduction. Miiiles of gravel.

Stream improvements for rainbows? Never. All they care about is controlling the flooding I agree 99% with what you said Ray. They don't need to shut down certain areas of Catharine though - they need to shut down the whole thing from fishing for a couple of years! So much potential, so many stupid fishermen.. I could go on and on about that stream forever.

Thanks for the advice Ron. I caught on to the sarcastic answer, hence the Will be out this weekend, weather permitting. Still a newb but will post how I do.
