  5. Orleans County Legislature and Tourism Attempting to Keep the Oak Orchard State Park and Boat Launch Open March 3, 2010 It was standing room only Monday evening at the Lighthouse Restaurant in Point Breeze (Kent), NY as neighbors and members of the Oak Orchard Neighborhood Association met with Orleans County Legislator Chairman Dave Callard, District #4 Legislator, Ken Rush and Deputy Jim Halstead. The recent announcement regarding the closing of the Oak Orchard State Park & Boat Launch on Archbald Road and Mr. Callard’s "State of the County" message from February 24th prompted the invitation by the newly formed neighborhood association, also known as OONA. Callard shared with attendees that Orleans County Tourism Director, Wayne Hale and Ken Rush are scheduled to meet with state officials this week to determine the feasibility of Orleans County acquiring the state park & boat launch. OONA members displayed their support by presenting a letter from OONA Preservation & Environmental committee chairman, Dave Tufts. "Loss of this park and boat launch would be a blow to our local businesses and serve to under utilize this important resource that we have in the Oak Orchard Harbor." Callard & Rush also commented on the County’s position in 2010 to enhance the Oak Orchard region and tourism in Orleans County. Steve Gramiak, OONA President and proprietor of the Black North Inn and Bill Karcher, Vice President and proprietor of the Lighthouse Restaurant raised the issue of poor and dilapidated signage and reflectors along the Lake Ontario State Parkway (Seaway Trail) and local roads. 13. New to Captain’s Cove is InvisaSwivel (MADE FROM FLUORO CARBON) These Swivels are great to use with leaders. Available in sizes: 12lb, 25lb, 35lb, and 55lb Features: Invisible in Water Self Lubricating Slow Sinking Flexible Durability Corrision Proof Protects your Guides Order yours today by calling or emailing us Here’s a little more about this NEW product! InvisaSwivel is a clear fishing swivel that was developed for the avid fisherman who wants to catch more fish. Our stealth design is invisible in water so fish cannot see the swivel like conventional swivels that are made of metal. Also metal swivels are heavy and corode which effects there ability to properly remove line twist. Another great feature of the InvisaSwivel is its ability to self lubricate due to the space age material they are made of. These swivels will also protect your guides from nicks by gliding softly through causing no damage like a metal swivel would cause. No more guides cutting your line!! A conventional swivel (made of metal) can only be bent 3-4 times before they will break InvisaSwivels can be bent hundreds of times and show no signs of fatigue or memory. Corrosion (H2O) plays a huge part in metal swivel failure, because it eats away the metal the minute they hit the water. InvisaSwivels are not affected by salt or fresh water so corrosion is not even a issue. Increase your odds and catch more fish using an InvisaSwivel it’s the clear choice. My husband and I are selling a piece of property on Perch Creek, across from Green Harbor Campground and Marina on Lake Ontario in the Town of Carlton. Sales will continue on a first-come/first-served basis until the end of the hunting season or until all DMP's have been issued. 19. We are pleased to announce that Orleans County Tourism will host one of two workshops with speaker Chuck May who will share the experience of the Great Lakes Small Harbors Coalition in Michigan. October 27, 2009 1-4pm Tillman's Village Inn Registration: call New York SeaGrant, Oswego 315/312-3042 or [email protected]. Discussion will focus on how the Michigan experience can be transferred to New York's shallow draft harbors to maintain Great Lakes access and influence the federal budget process for dredging projects. Wayne Hale, Jr., Director Orleans County Planning Department Orleans County Tourism Orleans County Marine Park 14016 Rt. 31 W, Albion, NY 14411 1-800-724-0314 585/589-3187 Fax 585/589-8105 On behalf of the Great Lakes Small Harbor Coalition, NY Sea Grant, and our hosts, the Orleans County Tourism Office and Oswego County Department of Community Development, Tourism & Planning, we would like to invite you to join us at a workshop to discuss the goals and objectives of the coalition, and how it can help NY Small Harbors (both recreational and commercial) address their management and dredging needs. The workshop will be held on both October 27 from 1-4 pm at Tillman's Restaurant (http://www.tillmansvillageinn.com) in Albion NY, and again on October 28 from 1-4pm at the Oswego Public Library (http://www.oswegopubliclibrary.org) in Oswego NY. There is no cost for attending the workshop but pre-registration is requested so we can plan accordingly. The Great Lakes Small Harbors Coalition was formed as a successor to the Michigan Small Harbors Coalition which was created in 2007. The Coalition's primary objective is to advocate for a better way to appropriate federal funds for dredging small Great Lakes harbors and maintaining navigational access for recreational boaters and other harbor users. By broadening its membership and inviting member harbors from all eight Great Lakes states, the Coalition acknowledged that maintaining access to small harbors is a regional concern, not that of any one state, and thus requires a regional solution. While the Coalition in its previous configuration as a Michigan organization was able to successfully help generate millions more federal dollars for harbor dredging, we feel that as a Great Lakes regional organization, the Coalition will carry even more potential to leverage federal resources and give small harbors a more prominent and unified voice in budget and policy matters. In other words, we feel we can accomplish much more working together as a Great Lakes regional entity than we can singly or by state. Please register by October 23 by calling NY Sea Grant at 315-312-3042 or emailing [email protected]. Please be sure to indicate which workshop you will be attending and how many will attend. An overview of the Great Lakes Harbor Coalition and draft agenda are attached for your review. We look forward to having you join us for this very timely and important discussion. Sincerely, Chuck May, Chair pro-tem, Great Lakes Small Harbors Coalition Dave White New York Sea Grant David G. 20. Bill Hilt's doesn't say who weighted the fish or where it was weighed. Here's what appeared in his article about this:..."And speaking of the LOC Derby, every year we hear about the big fish that didn’t get away ... but the person wasn’t entered in the derby. It happened again earlier this week when Traci Johnson of Youngstown was fishing near the red buoy marker on the Niagara Bar. Johnson normally gets into the derby every year. This year, because of a recent move, she opted not to fish it. The end result was her catching the king of her life, tipping the scales at better than 40 pounds. She was using a flasher and fly to take the lunker fish. Here is a link to the complete article: http://www.niagara-gazette.com/archives ... 22856.html
