  1. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s): Time on Water: Weather/Temp: Wind Speed/Direction: Waves: Surface Temp: Location: LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 31 Total Boated:27 Species Breakdown:Steelhead, Coho's, Kings Hot Lure: Lemon Ice, Spinny, all Spinnys and Atomik Flies Trolling Speed:2.6 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 180-300 Lure Depth: 30-70 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS Started out friday in 70 ft of water and couldnt get all the rods in the water before we reeled our first coho, start of a GREAT day and a half of fishing. Friday morning from 7-1 went 16-18 with a mix bag of coho's and steelhead all 6-10 lbs, nothing huge but kept us busy. A mix between riggers and dipsey's with the hot lure both days being lemon ice spinny and a matching atomik fly. Could not find a king in the morning and the screen was blank finished the morning with our best bite around 235 with riggers 30/50 and wire out 150-230. Went back out around 6 pm and only having a few hours headed right back out to 235 hooked up where we left off with a triple with all steelies that were triplets at 10 lbs we started to angle for port and the starboard side rigger goes ripping line, as I start moving rods the left side starts firing and stripping out line uncontrollably. We boated our only two kings of the day a 26.8 and 22.8 lb kings. All and all a great day and we went in thinking tomorrow cant get much better. Sat morning started out a little late due to some adult beverages the night before, got out around 6 and headed right back out to 235. Hooked up with a keeper steelie and then a starboard rigger hits again stripping out an excessive amount of line like the previous day, i said it would be nice to duplicate yesterday's last minute double and at that time the port side slams the wire., I grab the wire and could only hang on. About a min of straight stripping line the port rigger fires and an areial steelhead shows his face then 5 seconds later the right rigger fires with a quadruple on with two nice fish on the wire with only 3 people on the boat and nobody driving.were at a stalemate on my wire when he decides to make a run for the boat, I am reeling as fast as humanly possible and suffice to say he was a little quicker than me, I lost the battle and we boat the other king which is a 22.8 lb king again. We hooked op one more time with a mature king topping the scales at 22.4. The lake started to get a little snotty around noon and the skies were starting to look a little dark so we ended the trip. Only been on the lake fishing salmon for a few years now and have learned a tremendous amount from reading your outstanding posts from this sight and still have a lot to learn. This trip was the most productive and a great time especially with a few friends to enjoy with. We had several doubles, 3 triples and a quadruple, talk about stress on triples and the quadruple although a good kind of stress, looked like a circus on the boat. Everything we threw out took fish on the wire although lemon icespinny/atomik flie took around 10-12 alone with it being the deep at 230 down on a number 3 with the most productive water being 225-250. These guys have never caught anything this big so there are two fish going to the taxidermist. No issues all trip until we came in going around the breakwall the prop hit something pretty solid and chewed up two of the three and when I pulled the boat out of the water and put a wrench on the plug to pull it, the whole plug receptacle just snapped and out comes the plug/plug receptacle on the ground(anybody ever did this and how to fix?) otherwise a GREAT trip. Will post pics. Sorry bout the long post ====================
  2. Thursday and Friday was polluted between Olcott and Wilson.
  3. Would have been better than the smelt run in Cayuga this year! Nick, at one point my buddy just started counting and in a few seconds he gave up after around 30-40.
  4. Harbor Inn in Olcott, not sure of the number but I believe its on www.olcottfishing.com. We stayed elsewhere in Olcott and next time I will stay at the Harbor Inn, its a block or two from the town marina and looks decent. Where we stayed the people were nice but we were not to happy there. If you PM me I will give you details. Dont want to bash the place online, nice place, just not for us. Paul
  5. Tbromund, We were fishing out of Olcott Thurs, fri, and sat and only kept 12, had some friends from Iowa so had to send them back with fish. On Sat I didnt have a rod move from 6-11, real slow but like YT said still better than other things. I saw Billy's report and like him we had some big boys drop off and had a bunch of little tykes. While we were out on Sat we came in around 1 and the boat behind us had a 27lber in the cooler. The East wind started on Fri and never really got into them, tons of bait everywhere though. Did anyone else see all the smelt floating this week, what was up with that?
  6. Thanks guys for the input. Going from Olcott west, thanks for the input on where to stay guys, gonna make calls tomorrow for reservations, anyone else gonna be in the area end of next week. Will be on channel 68.
  7. LB88, I might need you to help me, Not sure if you remember but mine is very sticky, If motor is all the way down or up it takes a little finesse to get it going, havent jumpered so not sure if its the solenoid or switch, with the motor in gear works everytime-which leads me to the switch.
  8. Dale, Thanks, With all the great reports from last week thats a no brainer, im just used to fishing the Oak. have you been out much Dale? The boat is running excellent and finally got the gelcoat looking like new again after wet sanding. I think we are going to stay in Olcott and head west. I saw a couple of motels in Olcott, does anyone have any input on where to stay, would like to keep the boat in the water and somewhere close to have a beer. Anyone else going to be up there the end of next week? Paul
  9. Going up a week from Thursday and fishing through Saturday with a few friends. I ussually go to the Oak but havent heard much talk yet of the Oak. Do I change my routine and go west to Olcott or stay at the Oak for kings. If I go to Olcott where is a good place to stay and also have a few beers. Anyone have any reports from Oak Orchard. Paul
  10. I was a all Chevy man with my vehicles and in 07 changed my path a bit and tried a new Tundra and am very glad i did so. I love the truck, I know Toyota has had many problems as of late but I have not encountered any issues and can not speak enough about the new Tundras. I pull a 24' Penn Yan a couple of hours to Lake Ontario and the truck pulls the boat with no problems. If you are thinking of buying a Tundra, go test drive one, I dont think you will be disappointed. Paul
  11. What did you buy Nick??? Looking at Cayuga maybe on Sunday, Heard the South end is doing decent right now, we have an open seat Nick.
  12. Glad you had a great day on the water LB88, how did the boat run for the maiden voyage of the year? Were you north of the salt plant again? Sorry I couldnt join ya, had to do the unpacking thing. Looking forward to Lake O shortly. Paul
  13. I second Swarthout Marine, Excellent people to deal with! Firsthand knowledge, uh LB88. I got a 350 complete engine and heard it run before the guy pulled it for me and he stayed late. Excellent price. Paul
  14. Tom, Is it to late to still order shirts? if not I would like 2 xl's and 3 med's. Thank you Paul
  15. Coup, nice report. It was nice meeting you and your father a few weeks back. Sounds like your getting into them. We need to get together one of these weekends and get out, maybe even exchange a little hunting land for Iowa bowhunting, as you have a nice area up there, we see alot of deer going up there to Hughes. I have a few friends coming from Iowa along with my father this weekend and will be up at the Oak on Monday for a week of fishing Ontario. NICE!
  16. Thanks KW, Thanks for responding I think we are just going to stay put out of henderson, Prabably try our luck for Walleyes but in the end catch alot of smallies and work the trench for salmon(just isnt the same for salmon on the east end of the lake) We will be up next thurs and fri if any one is around look us up, staying at the sunset in Henderson Harbor(Beautiful area) with the lake not turning so late Walleyes will be scattered, any info around Henderson for walleyes, calf island spit, galloo?
  17. Troy Boats name is Mud Chicken(Sorry Woody, havent got around to changing) a 24 ' White and maroon Penn Yan. We will be up there early afternoon next monday fishing monday evening, tues and wed. Hopefully we run into each other-good luck fishing!
  18. Anybody with any reports out of Henderson, We will be up in a week and a half for a couple of days of Walleye fishing. I talked with a buddy who said come back the middle of Aug. as the lake hasnt turned yet and decent Walleye fishing is two weeks after that. Anybody out at Calf Island Spit or off Galloo doing anything. do we cancel and go to Erie? Have some guys coming from Iowa and will be down at the south end of the lake for 3 days salmon fishing out of the Oak then two days out of my old stomping grounds Henderson but its not looking good. Any help.
  19. Raider, I will be there on that monday for 3 days before we go up the east side of the lake for walleyes for a couple of days. I have a few friends meeting me up there along with my father. We will be staying at Captains Cove and might be able to be found at the BNI on occasion. Were fishing out of my 24' Penn Yan. Stop by and say hi, i will be on CH 68. Paul
  20. I have a 24 ft Penn Yann, with the long transom I had to get the long kicker bracket due to the height of the transom and the marina has asked several times if this is what I really want as it is a little pricey mounting it to include the mount and the stering bar and fuel line hook up. Not knocking the marina at all just a little skeptical as if its going to be worth it. 4 stroke 9.9 kicker motor cost 875.00 ( I bought seperate)and installation to include controls with steering bar and hooked into my fuel lines 10 hrs X 68 dollars an hour. I know in the long run it will, just want some reassurance and my boat back. Anyone else that has a long transom and what issues /problems did you go through mounting the kicker motor
