  1. Chowder, We went out Monday morning launching at Clute Park and started right at the West side seeing if we could get into the browns/ landlocks. Trolled a few miles past the salt plant with nothing moving. 40 to 120 fow staying mostly around 80 30-60 down. Trolled back to south end and went up the east side north of Hector Falls with nothing moving. Never marked anything. Went back to the west side trolling South, changed our spread from sticks and spoons to a few spinnies/flies on wire and took 3 lakers right at the pump house. We ended around 130 with only 3 lakers but it was the first time on the water this year and the boat ran as good as could be expected so it was a success. I was told to go North and we pondered that but didn't want to start the big motor, so we tinkered on South end. We stopped and were going to launch at the marina and the launch only had a foot of water and would have dropped off the launch prior to getting the boat in the water. Water is quite low! 2. Did anyone make it out on the South end today? Looking for any reports... Got the boat all ready to go for the morning, gonna be out tomorrow launching either at the marina or Clute park. Anyone else out in the AM??? Ch 68. Paul
  3. They are flat black in color and are a downrigger rod, 12-20 lb. I bought 2 yesterday while I was there for spring browns.
  4. We were going to go out Sunday but the wind has changed our minds to Monday. Would really like to get up and get into the browns at Sodus but maiden voyage of the year will keep us close to home.
  5. Capt. Vince, having troubles with PM so if you dont get my message by sat morning please give me a call. 315-778-6801. Thanks, Paul
  6. You work in the hunting/fishing department? Either way, might be in tomorrow with the GF, she had to teach a class this evening. A guy I work with also works there part time, Jeff P. is his name. Will try to put a face with the name tomorrow. Paul
  7. Thanks Tim! Went there after work to see what else they might have and bought 4 ladder stands for $37 a piece. Bought a few extras also. 50% of then another 50% off that price on alot of hunting items, nice deal!
  8. They all have their pro's and cons. Have new Iphone 4s, owned for a few weeks now. Getting used to Itunes was different, I dont like how the text balloons are set up and with the Droid it had a green light if someone had called or text. other than that I love the iphone, just getting used to it though. The Droid seamed to have a mind of its own at times by freezing up or typing on its own and the worst thing was making calls on its own(butt dialing). Facetime with my son who lives in a different state is well worth it for me, I bought him a Ipod and we talk daily through video so we can see each other daily . Paul
  9. I have had a summit around 10 years now and absolutely love it. With that said, I was having a meal and watching MNF in Iowa two years ago during the rut and met a guy. As we were talking, he asked if I am from around here, I told him I grew up in Iowa and living in NY. I told him I am out here deer hunting. He asked if I use climbers. I said I do and swear by the Summits. He said he is the Father in law of the guy that owns Lone Wolf. He gave me a card and said to contact him and he would give me 50% off a new climber. I called last year and low and behold I bought a Lone Wolf 50% off that was a demo(Used in a commercial). I told the owner I would try it out and give an honest review. The review I gave him was the Lone Wolf is very quiet although I am so use to my Summit and still like the Summit a little bit more. The Summit is wider which is a big advantage with heavier clothes bow hunting. Also the seat on the Lone Wolf was so uncomfortable that I googled issues with Lone Wolf and many bad reviews with the seat. I did what alot of others stated they did to correct the issue, bought a replacement Summit seat from Cabelas and installed, no more issues with comfort. I am getting more comfortable with the Lone Wolf and like it but still love the Summit. I have permanent stands on the land I own and other land I hunt in NY. In Iowa I go out each year bowhunting and strictly use climbers and am happy with both, if I bought another though I would go with another Summit. Sorry bout my long rant.

  11. Nice report, glad you had some action! We will be up early sat morning and will try to get ahold of you on the radio. What were the temps in the area. Still sounds like a deep bite. The chatter is starting to quiet down. Paul
  12. The Yellow sticks (Eagle Claws) have a tendency to break.+1
  13. We will be up at the Oak Saturday staying at Captains Cove through the following weekend. Give us a shout ch. 68. Paul
  14. Thanks Guys, I am going to try the Walkers release and in the mean time going to run the Scotty's off the back of the ball like Glen said. Paul
  15. I bought a used Moor sub troll and am using the coated cable that came with it as there are no issues with the cable. From the probe to the ball connection there isnt anything to hook up my scottys release to keep it 6" or so above the ball. What is everybody else using? On the cable I took off of my downrigger there was a blacks release crimped and the scotty's release was hooked on the DR line inbetween Where the blacks hooked to the line . My question would be to cut the downrigger line and install the blacks again or is there a better method to attach my scotty's. Hope I didnt confuse anyone to much. Also if I cut the line where can I find crimps either around Elmira area or the Oak as I will be there next weekend. Is there a special tool to crimp with?
  16. Thanks for the reports Yankee! We will be up for a week at the start of the LOC, hopefully everything settles down by then. F'85-www.attheoak.com/taylor/lat-depths.html (my computer didnt allow me to copy link so if it doesnt work) or go to attheoak.com and go to landmarks and click on water depths. This will show you approx depths for the lat.
  17. Would invest in something a little stronger. I had Tite loks that came with the boat and they are good for planers but would not go as far as dipsy's. Several(all) height adjustment thumb screws were bent and a couple of mount bolts were beat as well. This year I bought Big Johns rod holders and am very happy I did so as my rod holders wouldnt have lasted this year. Dipsy's just put to much stress on those rod holders. The investment on new rodholders were worth every penny considering the price of a dipsy/spinnie/Atomik fly, not to mention rod/reel.
  18. I second Skipper, I like to net on the side of the boat also, by moving rods to the back and the other side of the boat from where the fish is coming to. The back of the boat is to congested with my rigger lines and kicker unless the fish is caught on a rigger. No slowing down or pulling lines unless we know its a major then we will pull the lines on that side and slow down just a tad.
