  1. How do you get the stupid bones out of your salmon/steelhead fillets?
  2. Does anyone know the dates for the 2011 Orleans County Rotary Derby?
  3. Is this boat still for sale? Do you have any more pictures? If so, please send them to [email protected]
  4. Does anyone on here do the snowbird thing. My wife and I are retiring in two years and are very interested in wintering in a balmier climate. We are primarily interested in fishing communities as opposed to golf or other traditional "retiree" activities. Gulf coast Fort Myers south into the keys.
  5. Love the rigger and rod holder bar! Is it custom made? I have been looking for a solution to shallow deck to gunnel boats.
  6. What are you uing for a die to punch them out?
  7. Tom, I cannot begin to thank you sufficiently for the information you have given me so far. I really look forward to reading this and other posts from you. Please get that book in the works! I have been involved with other forums for anglers in the past but no offense to the others Lake Ontario is where I fish and the guys on here seem to be the least possessive about knowledge. You all are class acts!
  8. Another question arises. Is it advantageous to try to match the color, design or other characteristics of the dipsy to that of the spin doctor. For example would a wonderbread dipsey be used ahead of a wonderbread spinny?
  9. Jeepers I am sorry I posted anything now. I wasn't trying to start any controversy or dreate dissent and disagreement. All I wanted was to clarify for my own knowledge. If I have produced hard feelings as a result of my inquiries then I apologize deeply. I bought from ATOMMIK because they were closest to me and this is all very new to my wife and I. I meant no slight or anything like that as far as BIGWEENIES products.
  10. Read my previous post Orvis "sold out " a long time ago once fly fishing became a yuppie sport. They were importing flies tied in Kenya and Sri Lanka and labeling them as "domestic" (which at the time they could do as long as the materials originated in the US. Shame too because we tied wonderful and durable flies for them and I was proud to be associated with them. Again once upon a time Jim
  11. Tom, I had ordered about $100 worth of combos from you last year for this past season, has no success with any patterns I tried this summer except for wonderbread/wonderbread and that only on my last outing. I want to get better with this method but there is so much and I know so d@mn little. I don't have unlimited bucks for tackle so have to try to purchase stuff that has a strong possibility of working (realizing that with my undeveloped skill and knowledge base it is all pretty much a crap shoot and there are no guarantees). Are you going to offer the above referenced combination on your site prior to next season. Also may I email you? Jim
  12. I have a 2005 Starcraft that I bought as a new leftover in 2006. I have really enjoyed fishing with this boat but have some issues with the performance as configured from the factory. The boat has the stock 4cyl with no performance enhancements. My problem is that the boat is VERY difficult to get on plane and top speed at WOT @ 4500 RPM even on flat calm water with only two people on board appears to be 25-28 MPH. I could probably live with this but I have had other 191's pass me even with more pepole on board the other boat. I have installed Bennet hyd trim tabs as advised by a marine mechanic and while this has improved some stability issues on plane it has not enhanced performance as far os top speed or hole shot. I am seriously considering changing from the stock prop and installing a whale tail to improve stern lift but what prop, larger/smaller and what pitch?
  13. WHAT?? That was urine? They told me at BNI that it was unsweetened cool aid. I guess there was a little wang in there. As far as the clothespins I did not have any and have been forced to substitute with document sping clips (they not only sting but they flatten your nipples to the point that you cannot go shirtless without pointing and derisive comments made behind hands over mouth. A couple of times at the dock I have even seen grown men point and fall to the deck wetting themselves as they laugh hysterically. Come to think of it maybe that is where the urine comes from. I have to date not received any "official" spankings but I have had my azz kicked a couple of times so maybe that counts. Welcome Captain Scott. Back in the day (more than 40 years ago I tied flies commercially for Orvis. That was before the John Harder era and the "domestic" flies tied in Kenya and Sri Lanka materials cost true domestic tiers more than the imports cost Orvis of course they forced tiers to purchase "suitable" materials from them at retail then required that we accept a wholesale price for our products). Pretty much soured me on Orvis since then.
  14. Saw a lot of references to this combination on the boards this summer but could not find a purple mirage fly on Atommik's web site. Can someone please assist?
  15. Thanks MuskyBob and BlueEye. We have had a blessed year on the Lake O that's for sure. Don't know if we will get out again this Fall because we are spending the next two possibly three weekends moving trailers up to New York. Yep we decided to end our long affair with Lake Erie and the walleye and perch because salmonids are so much more fun to catch. So next sumer we will be in our 40ft trailer instead of the 23 with our own private bedroom ahhh creature comfort.
  16. Fishing Report Your Name / Boat Name: ============== TRIP OVERVIEW ============== Date(s):Sept 18 Time on Water:4.5hours Weather/Temp: sunny/55-65 Wind Speed/Direction: negligible Waves: flat Surface Temp: 58 Location: Johnson's Creek LAT/LONG (GPS Cords): =============== FISHING RESULTS =============== Total Hits: 7 Total Boated: 5 Species Breakdown: Kings Hot Lure: Atommik Super Wonderbread glow combo spinny and Fly , Magnum Wonderbread spoon Trolling Speed: 2.5-3 Down Speed: Boat Depth: 35-65 Lure Depth: 15-50 ==================== SUMMARY & FURTHER DETAILS ==================== Launched late out of Oak and too many boats for my wife's comfort zone so we moved west to Johnson's Creek and the was somewhat less traffic. Started marking fish in 30 FOW as soon as we came off plane turned boat north and set up four rods out two riggers to wire dipseys with spoons. Port rigger had ASWGC and fired after only five minutes rigger at 30 ft. Boated 22 lb king. This turned out to be the smallest fish of the day. Reset that rod and twenty minutes later POW we had a double and managed to get both fish in the boat this time they were a 24 and a 26 lb pair. Had to turn south as we were getting out of fish and after turning reset rods and port rigger fired again this was a HUGE fish and while my wife fought it I cleared rods and we got fish to the boat twice befor it finally broke the hook in the fly and got away. Re rigged fly and reset all rods. Port rigger fired again and we boated another 26 lb king. Reset rod turned north again an then starboard wire rod fired we boated that fish and it was 28 lb and change (biggest fish of the day). Reset rod had viscious hit as soon as I had deployed it but nothing there. Port rigger fired again and we ended up boating a nice fat 23 lb 12 oz king. Had to get back in as we had company coming for supper and had to go grocery shopping before they came Almost limited out! Have to say for bigger fish we had best day of the summer. Both the wife and I were worn out. We were going to go out again on Sunday but I busted a prong off of my trailer plug so had to park the boat. If we don't get out again THANK YOU LAKE ONTARIO FOR AN ABSOLUTELY STELLAR SUMMER. 38 kings, 4 Atlantics, 8 coho, 16 brown trout (including the #2 BT of the Orleans Derby), 14 Steelhead
  17. Coming up to fish this weekend and wanting to run a high dipseys outside of my wire lines but the last time I ran mono I could not get the dipseys to release so I want to run braided lines. Just wondering how bad the fleas have been at the Oak?
  18. Stinger Wonderbread magnum took the #2 Orleans Derby Brown of my boat this year. Wonderbread actually took three other browns that day and then four more the following week. NBK came in second followed by Michael Jackson.
  19. New tactic. Does anyone have any contact information regarding the Orleans County Rotary Derby you know like a phone nuber, email address anything??
  20. Does anyone know how leaderboard placeholders who are unable to attend the awards banquet are notified other than the final results that were posted to the Orleans County Tourism website?
  21. I have no desire to charter just want to make sure that I know the rules of the road and am certified to pilot my small vessel. I won't pose as a captain nor use that title. I just want the knowledge and seamanship. I wouldn't want a Charter Captain's job those guys work way hard for their money. I do love to fish. One thing I have learned about myself is that if I try to turn something I am that passionate about into a profession then I am no longer able to enjoy it. I still like to have the rod in my hands and land fish.
