  1. I picked up a spool of Mason Redicore thinking I'll put it on a Accudepth Plus 57lc, after talking to a buddy we figured if I ran this to the knot or to the knot plus 5-10 passes and a big king hit I would be out of line in no time. So. My plan is to add some additional backing to the dacron that came on the spool but no my reel isn't going to be big enough. What reel are you guys using for this type of set up and how much backing do you think I need. Anyone use the Pfluger Contender? Thanks
  2. Sorry to hear about that mishap....I've heard a few horror story's about Stamina as well, backordered items than charging guys for the stuff, late shipping and the list goes on and one. I did need some spinner blades from them so I bit the bullet and ordered from them and everything went fine...i guess I was lucky. On a happier note, I placed a couple large orders from GLoutdoors.com got free shipping and it was at my house in two days, even got a personal email from Captain Scott. Great prices and great guy, I'll be ordering from them again soon.
  3. Well I have a tournament Ranger Walleye boat rigged as rigged can be, what's one more screen on top of the 3 I already have. I just won't use it while walleye fishing most of the time, figured I'd save it some sun and rain and rough water pounding while not being used so it lasts longer. I think I have the perfect spot for it
  4. Sold Pending Payment for all 4 reels to momay4000. Thanks Kevin
  5. Sorry I'm thinking of going with the Depthraider, I can get if for 400 out the door and just talked to someone who has it and likes it alot, he has the fishhawk on another boat but discussed the "why" on why the depthraider is better.
  6. I have two like new 47 Accudepth Diawa's only used on a few trips. $35 each I'll pay shipping. I also have two used 27's as well, used a few seasons $25 each if you want all 4 $110 I'll pay shipping.
  7. Thanks guys, even though it will only get used once or twice a year I want to have a very succesfull Salmon trip to Ontario this year, I'll be there for 5 days and I know things can change in a heartbeat so I think it's worth the investment. Does anyone know if the headunit display can easiely be taken off the bracket and unplugged so I can store it indoors when not in use?
  8. Between Depth Raider, Cannon and Moore which do you guys prefer and why? Not factoring in price just based on experience, longevity of how long units last and accuracy, updated info etc. Might be buying one just hearing alot of mixed review on each unit figure I'd throw it out there even tho I'm sure this horse has been beating a few times. Sorry I'm a newbie Salmon guy. Thanks Kevin
  9. I just ordered some 15's off of ebay but they are not shark weights just black painted lead balls with two eyelets. search downrigger weights you'll see them, got 4 shipped for 132...to the door.
  10. I agree Cisco's are the best rod holder on the market I have triples on my boat and i'm going to upgrade from Ram's on the rear of my boat to the new cradle style holders. They are pretty busy but they are worth the wait.
  11. I plan on ordering directly from them, probably sometime next week, August 20th can't come soon enough, it's a pain just trying to get all my gear together, first time salmon fishing on my own boat with my own stuff. I think the fishing will be the easiest part....cheaper too
  12. I plan on buying 7 or so spin docs in some suggested colors I found on this site and through a couple friends, should I get some dodgers/flashers as well. When I fished with a buddy off Olcott we only ran spin docs with fly's and spoons. Can I get away with just running the doc's? Thanks
  13. Old pete lives 20 minutes from me, his spoons and paint work are good for off the shelf products but for custom stuff downriver is the guy
  14. www.downrivertackle.com guy's name is Jim. I'm actually on his homepage, his paint work is the best I've seen if you need anything painted he's your guy. he's out of Michigan and services a ton of pro's. if you want to see some stuff he did for me, PM me with your email address.
  15. I've ran the Amish outfitter boards in very rough water true 6 fters on my buddies 30 ft baha cruiser in a tourney, they work the best and they are the standard on Erie charter boats and other boats that run big boards.
  16. I use two Amish 22 inch bags on my 21 fter, try to run the bags a little further back, I tie mine up mid ship on short leads so they run 2 ft from the back of the boat. I don't have any problems with steering and I only run a kicker so I have less thrust holding my course vs the main motor
  17. Number 4 or number 5 willows, Colorado blades, I like 6 or 7's for open water fishing, don't rule out the big indiana blades as well, BPS or Silver Streak makes some nice big blades, I've had alot of luck on them. I like orange beads in a couple different shades, pink/white combos. Orange and pink in a faceted bead with white backed blades can be deadly, the rainbow trout colored blade works well on just about any color bead pattern, blues/white/pink has pulled alot of fish in deep open water. Anything that resembles a smelt will pull big fish, if you not getting big fish slow down even down to 1.4-1.7.
  18. Thanks for the link, I'll pick up a couple of those. Alot of my walleye buddies who run riggers alot like Black's Releases. What are some of the most popular Salmon rigger releases? I know I'm getting the black's for walleye do I need another set for Salmon or should I just keep the same ones and tighten them up a little bit? I ordered some 15 pound balls one of my buddies said the heavier the better. Another buddy said Moonshine spoons are good early and late in the day, do you guys run them?
  19. You can use worm harnesses of inline weights as well as dispey divers and jet divers as well, bottom bouncing is another effective method and excels on sunny days when fish are in the mud.
  20. Smart Fish? I'm not up to speed on Smart Fish, can someone give me a link?
  21. Thanks for the tips on the colors, much appreciated I will get those for sure. yesterday I picked up 2 47's for the wire (ordering 30 pnd maline 1000ft) and a 57 I picked up a spool of Mason Redicore in 27lb to put on it. Do most successfull guys run the spin docs and flies off the riggers then spoons on the wire and leadcore? Thanks again for all the help.
  22. You might want to take a look at Amish Outfitter Big boards, every charter captain on lake erie uses them and alot of Ontario guys run them as well. Frank Kitrick charters out of St Catherines and out of Lorain Ohio for walleye and steelhead, he has planer bungies and a slew of other neat boat/fishing related products and the best trolling bags on the market, I only use his stuff. www.amishoutfitters.com definetely worth a look.
  23. I have a 21 ft Ranger 621 walleye boat so I will just be pulling the boat after fishing and putting it back on the trailer, my buddy who fishes Olcott goes up there every year twice a year for who knows how long will be there with me, he's renting a house right around the corner from the launch. I talked to another salmon fishin buddy and he said run the malin 30 pound as well, I'm going to pick his brain on some riggins specifics for the dipsy's, I have a spare set of dipsey rods I'll just put twili tips on them. Using your method the wire will run about 5% deeper than braid 103 back on a 3 1/2 setting will be it down about 40 ft. I know the greens, white, blues and a mixture of all work well on the flies. Any color spin docs that work better than others? What type of flies, my buddies run Howie's but I know there are alot more out there. Any suggestions on brands? I'm thinking about buying a probe what is the most popular, some of my buddies like the Cannon. Thanks again,
  24. Okay I knew the fleas might have been an issue, I've ran wire on my buddy's boat with dipsy rods and twi tips on them. I suppose I can buy two more dipsy reels to put wire on them. What brand of wire should I get, I know there is stainless and copper, 7 strand. Can you post a link to the exact stuff I should buy, do I fill the whole spool or should I use some sort of backing, what kind of backing. Thanks again guys, the help is appeciated. If anyone needs walleye advise I can help you out there.
