    Oneida Bite

weeds have settled quite a bit since all that wind from a week and a half ago. The best bite is the shallow night bite. Dark till 10 or so has been pretty steady.

    hungry walleyes!

The night bite is definately on. Water temps on the north shore of Oneida are holding around 53. This fish from friday night had a 9 inch silver in his belly and still wanted more.( 26 1/2 inch fish ----9 inch bait?)
  3. im sure there are fish to be had but its not time yet Thanks, I guess I'll wait. Maybe a good weekend to go to Jersey ...The sea bass and tautog are running hard.
  4. LANDSHARK,...any news on the picton trolling bite? I'm thinking of going up to Merland park this weekend or next.
  5. Landshark.....Thanks for the tip. The glow sticks are a one time use and aside from the cost I'm running all the local suppliers out of them.
  6. 4 walleyes last night after dark. Black and silver#11s 50 feet behind the boards in 10 feet of water. I I have been using glow sticks wiretied on the tattle flag...and if you run two boards off the same side you can easily see if a board drags back. Maybe covering ground is the key right now . Surface temp last night was 60.8*
  7. Night bite is definately starting...Last night on the north shore surface temp was 63 and the eyes were hitting #11 black and silver sticks in 10 feet of water...

    Picton Trooling?

Can anyone tell me about when the walleyes move into the bay at Picton? I'd like to go up and try trolling . Thanks in advance.
  10. your welcome. I see Todd Frank out there once in a while...pretty hard to miss that rig.The Oneida fish are getting bigger each year. Here is an 8' 2" jigged out of 7 ft. of water last weekend. Look at 43. 11.31.06 X 75.53.55.12 on a map. Fish that and anything that looks similar. Good luck.
  11. I live on Oneida and fish it at least 3 days a week...The bite has been good although we aren't trolling yet other than pulling some spinner harnesses around the offshore humps. The program for me has been black jigs w/gulp 3 inch shad on and around the shoals. I havn't fished for kings this year but have been running for browns at least once a week out of mexico point and doing well on rapalas and cleos tight to shore.
  12. I've never fished Cayuga but thought I might head down to try trolling tomorrow. Can anyone tell me how the conditions usually are out of Taughannock with a 8-12 knot west wind . Also how deep the fish have been. Thanks in advance.
  13. Nothing like last weekend. Left Wright's landing at 6:45 and trolled east for two hours throwing every color and size combo stick bait off the boards. Nothing! Water was gin clear with temps in the high 30s. Finally switched to spoons and bumped up the speed and hooked up on a orangr/silver cleo 150 ft. behind the rigger. Switched to all spoons and took two more off the boards with same cleos 100 ft behind the board with a snap weight 10 back. Much tougher than last weekend. If any of the captains are reading this could you give me your opinion on whether you think we were just triggering impulse strikes with the speed and erratic action of cleos or was it something else. Thanks in advance.
  14. Left Wright's Landing at 9:30 and picked up a small brown off the east wall. Temp was 36.5. Trolled east and temps slowly got better. Once we got to the shallow rocks off Alcan Point the boards started going down like bobbers. Temps there were 37.5 to 39. Went 5 for 6 all on orange #13s.
  15. I just called the DEC on erie blvd. in Syracuse. The officer stated that it is perfectly legal, but you must put the lure un the water before attaching it to the main line and you may not exceed the 15 point hook limit.
  16. I saw a guy in a walleye tournament running this rig.....Let out the lure and attach the planer board....let the board out 20 feet or so then attach a pinch pad release....then hook a fifty foot line using a snap swivel with another lure on it. when a fish hits the inside line you reel in to the release, unhook the line from your main line and bring the fish in by hand. It doesn't seem any different than a seth green rig but I have not seen it used before, and it would only be useful for smaller fish (hand lining), but seems like a great walleye search tool. Anyone know if this is a legal rig? Thanks
  17. I fished out of wright's landing on Sunday. Great weather, bad fishing. I trolled out of the harbor and headed east with the dirty water. Ran boards with every set up i know. Water temps between 33 and 34.5. Came back and fished straight out off the east wall at the mud line edge which was 30 feet and picked up 1 brown on a green reef runner running 22 ft at 1.7. Never found any better temps..maybe this week's weather will help.
  18. great. I assume the harbor is open water isn't it
  19. I mean the ramp to launch for browns
  20. Does anyony know when Wright's landing opens...no answer at their phone yet. Thanks
  21. Rustyrat, that's an impressive list of fish. Are you running the smaller dodgers in front of your flies?
  22. I really appreciate the help. Good luck on Sat.
  23. Thanks. I'll take a look at Cayuga. Any idea on set ups for this time of year?
  24. I am an avid Oneida Lake walleye troller but last year thanks to some great info on this site i fished Lake O with good success. Now that the shoreline is getting skinny on Oneida I would like to try trolling for lakers or browns down on Seneca. Can anyone give me a genaral starting point for this time of year ( area, depths etc.). Any help would be appreciated.
