  1. Been taking some nice lakers the past 3 days on the northend using Sutton 88s most have been around 50' range over 100'. Early morning has been the most productive with all the boat traffic during the holiday weekend. Even caught a 20" & 18" Smallmouth Bass at the 50' mark. Tuesday night was also good. I landed 4 lakers in just over an hour of fishing. Georged
  2. Hit the water at 5:45PM fishing the northend. I boated 3 average lakers and lost a heavy one. All hook ups were in about 70-60 ft of water at the bottom using Sutton 88s. I didn't see many fish in the deeper water. Georged
  3. The Eire canal system holds some of the largest fish you will find in your area Carp. Since you have access to the canal in Seneca Falls you are in luck. You may have to try some different methods to get quantity and quality of fish though. If you would like to try I suggest you visit the American Carp Society web site. Look at the tournament results for the Northeast Regionals from the Seneca River a part of the Canal system. I visited there when it was happening. This spurred my interests and I fished there a couple of times this year catching carp close to 20Lbs. Carp have a bad rap in the USA, but the rest of the world does not. I know the canal system holds Carp close to 40lbs. Some of the larger Finger Lakes tributaries offer some big trout in the spring. Naples and Catherine Creek Some of the tributaries of Lake Ontario also offer good chances for big trout and salmon in the spring and fall. I have a boat, but I still stream and pond fish during the season. Large size is not always the target, but sometime putting a plan together and catching the targeted species is just as enjoyable. Sincerely, georged
  4. When is the derby and what lake is it fished on? Sincerely, Georged
  5. That sure is a great rainbow. Sounds like the rest of your day went well also. I fished the north end later in the day only SM bass and pickerel on Sutton 88s. I was see alot of fish but I belive they were mostly SM bass. I have never been fished at the the south end but it seems that the action is better and from what I have seen quite a few large fish are taken there. Georged
  6. I landed a 5 lb trout on friday morning at approx. 150' down in Canandaigua lake on a Sutton 88. This laker had an open bleeding wound approx. 2" in diameter close to it's tail. Could this have been a lamprey mark?
  7. Hi All : I have had a passion for fishing my whole life and have fished for various species using various methods. I live in Canandaigua NY and I am only a mile or so from the state launch. I started fishing for lake trout 3 years ago with decent success. I still have alot to learn though. I use a Seth Green Rig, Pull Copper and just started downrigging. I have 2 teen age sons who like to fish, but are not fond of trolling, so I fish for trout mostly by myself which is not that easy to do. I would like to find a few other Canandaigua lake fishermen who would like to share information and partner up to fish once and a while. I am usually on the lake 2 or 3 times after work on weekdays and Sunday mornings weather permitting. I have a small vintage boat and trailer so I do not travel to other lakes for the time being. My exploration of Canandaigua Lake has only been at the northend and I still have not covered all of that yet. Thats it for now.
  8. I was wondering if any of you know the guy who builds custom rods and reels for fishing copper wire. I was at the fingerlakes trollers flea market this past March in Watkins Glen and I saw someone with a 3ft fiberglass roller tip rod with a wooden handle and a metal hand reel. He said thet he made them. I am now interested in purchasing one. If you know this person please forward an address, phone number or email. It is greatly appreicated.
  9. I have had some luck with Sutton spoons ( hammered 28s ) for rainbows but I fish out of the north end. Don't be surprized if you catch a few big smallmouth in the process.
  10. A Penn 68 reel will handle 600 feet of copper. You can find them used on Ebay. If you can not find a roller tip rod you can purchase a twli tip which is specifically made for wire line.
