  1. My youngest son an I got out about 1:30pm Saturday. Fished the North end. Marked many fish in the top 20 ft of water, but could not get them to bite. We tried flat lines, riggers and seth green rig. I believe planner boards may have worked. The boat must have been spooking them. We eventually tried pulling copper and caught 3 average lakers. Sunday was slow, just 2 lakers on copper and an old wire fishing rod and reel with cow bells I caught off the bottom. Georged
  2. I was on the north end of Canandaigua. No fish in the boat, but It was a great night to be out fishing. What did you get them to bite on? I tried various flutter spoons and a Blue/Sliver/Green Howie Fly/ Flasher combo. Good Luck. Hope your dad is OK. georged
  3. I fished Keuka lake on a coworker boat out of Branchport 4-7pm. We fished sticks at the top, wire/dipsey at 30-40' and the riggers at various depths from 35-100' with various spoon patterns. We marked alot of fish at bottom and inbetween. We missed one on the top line an landed an average laker from 100' in 150' on a Monkey Puke Mag. We hunted for Browns most of the time with no action. Water temp at the lure and surface was 42 or so. My first trip to Keuka.I normally only fish Canandaigua my home lake. Georged
  4. Sounds like you had a good day. Do you mainly fish flasher / fly set ups? Which brand flies? I can't wait to get back at it myself. George
  5. I think the ice may need to melt first Nick. I also can't wait to get back out on the lake trolling. Where are you renting the slip? I trailer my boat, it's a smaller boat and I live near the launch. See you out on the water soon. georged
  6. Ray: If you see everything as you write it you must find life very amusing, even your fishless days are interesting. You may not have to chip away any ice at the ramp Tues. or Weds. but I here the winds are going to pick up. george
  7. Does anyone know what the date is for the 2009 Finger Lakes Trollers Flea Market at Watkins Glen?
  8. Ray: Sorry you lost your fishin pal today. The time you guys spent on the water will be remembered for a lifetime. I commend you for your wintertime trolling. You seem to have very successful outings from what I read in the forum. What were catching them on and how deep were they? Georged
  9. I thought you fished from a larger boat last week. What is your laker set up for the canoe? What did you catch the laker on? How does the heater work in the canoe? I give you alot of credit for lasting 3 hours in 15 degree weather in a canoe. Your the man. Sincerely, Georged
  10. Stan: What a way to start the new year. Your lakes out west are so serene with the mountians in the back ground. I am sure all of us here who have not been able to get out on the water because of winter enjoy seeing your beautiful west coast trout. Georged
  11. Either of the dates would work for me. I can't wait to get out on the lake again. Georged
  12. Do you troll during the winter regularly? Sounds like it was well worth it by the numbers for fish you caught. I have always thought of giving it a try. georged
  13. Chicong: I also fish Canandaigua lake alot. I normally use a seth green set up ( multi leader rig ), but I started to pull Copper this year after a friend urged me to try his Copper set up. I had success in a short time and also used this method until the heat of the summer sun kept me from wanting to pull. I used Sutton 88 single hooked spoons that were a heaver gauge than a flutter spoon type. I know weight is important. A friend lent me some Blade Runner spoons which are a copy of the pfluger record lure that you use. I also used some no name spoons that are silver and shaped like a daredevil spoon with a single hook that I purchased at Seneca marine at Watkins Glenn. All worked if put in front of the fish. I spoke with a fellow fisherman who sent me some twin minnow lures, similar to a flatfish with a treble in the rear and a small spinner at the front hook location. He said these were a great copper pulling lure. I will try these this spring. I use a penn 68, 600' of wire and a light action roller tip rod. I use a mono 30 lb test leader about 30" long. I was told by others that a braid leader may work better because it is more durable and does not stretch. I also have purchased a old style wire trolling rig from the 60s ( large manual reel and a short metal rod) I will try this this spring also. You may want to try the seth green rig if you do not have down riggers on your boat. You can fish various depths and multiple lures at the same time. Maybe I'll see you on the water next year I spent at least 50 trips on Canandaigua this past season. Best of Luck. georged
  14. We travel to Rochester every weekend to help my elderly mother with errands etc. The afternoons are usually set aside for carp fishing with my sons. The carp fishing has been good the last few weekends. I have attached a few photos of my son with some of yesterdays catch. The largest is around 7 lbs, not big by carp standards, but we fish in a smaller body of water. Using light tackle makes it lots of fun. Sincerely, Georged
  15. I got out for 1.75 hours late this afternoon on the north end. What a beautiful day for November. Most likely my last outing for the year. I went 3 for 4, all average size lake trout. Winds were light out of the north H2O surface temp was 54F. The fish were caught around 70 FOW on a Silver Miller size 22. Sincerely, Georged
  16. I did not have the chance to get out to fish yesterday so I took the afternoon off today and fished from 1pm to 4:30pm. The lake was mostly calm on the north end. I went 5 for 5. All lake trout except for a 15" SM Bass. 1 trout was caught on a Sutton 88 and the rest of the fish hit a Elmer Hinkley 88. The trout were caught in 60-80 Ft and the bass at 40 ft. Largest trout was 24". I saw some beautiful screens of fish, but could not get any of them to bite. Sincerely, georged
  17. The finger lake streams are closed for trout fishing now I believe. It is open in the finger lakes all year.
  18. I fished the north end from 4:45pm to 6:30pm. The lake was calm and skies were overcast. I went 2 for 3 on lake trout. Average size fish. They were near the bottom in the 70-80' range. They all were caught on Sutton 88s. Georged
  19. FYI - I got out on the north end of Canandaigua lake saturday about 10 am. I fished until 2 pm. I went 7 for 8 with 3 lake trout 1 rainbow and 3 SM bass. All were on Sutton 88s I fished other types of spoons and a Howie Fly / Flasher set up also. Most fish were caught in 70-80 ft of water near the bottom. I fished all around, but most came from the east side of the lake. Good luck to all who fish in the LOU Canandaigua Tourney tomarrow. Georged
  20. Thanks for the info Bob I plan on grtting out in the am on saturday. I will target those depths with my rig. Georged
  21. I maybe able to make it around 11am or so.. I found out that our niece is getting baptized on Sunday and my wife and I were asked to be the god-parents. I'll be in my 1972 14' Orange Starcraft most likely covering the northern portion of the lake. Sincerely, Georged
  22. Glad you finally got a few into the boat. I normally fish out of the north end of Canandaigua lake 3-4 times a week, but daylight has been shrinking after work so this week was limited to once for about an hour. I also fish with a thermocline rig and I pull copper at times. Are you using treble hooks or singles? How deep were you when you were getting these bites? I try to go as slow as possible for lakers, but I still bump the speed up to get the lure to swim properly if needed. Good luck! Georged
  23. I would also be interested. Georged
  24. I've caught a few lakers on the north end with an o&m spoon size 50 White / Black & silver tonight in the 70' range tonight. Last night I used a Murray spoon dark Burgundy / White size 2 to get a few in the same depth range. I tried a Howie fly Blue/silver with a dodger/flasher for the last 3 trips with no luck. I am sure it will work in time. Has anyone else had any luck on the north end recently? Georged
