  1. Lol, did you venture out Sunday, or stay home like me?
  2. Wasn't sure how Chaumont would look with a NW wind. I know a SW wind can get pretty choppy. I got more stuff done on the boat and around the house today, so it was a win win anyway.
  3. Lol, I've done enough of those "shakedown" trips on the Gulf of Mexico south of Galveston TX. I don't need any more fillings rattled loose. It didn't take much to convince me that today was a good day to stay at home.
  4. I agree, I have plenty of yard work to get caught up on anyway. I was just curious about the conditions. Tuesday is looking like a great day for a shakedown cruise, so I'll head out Tuesday. If conditions were decent I was just going to stay in the bay today, but why bother when I can wait till Tuesday and actually do some fishing. Thanks Jimski2, and good fishing!
  5. I'm willing to part this boat out if someone wants the kicker motor, downriggers, or dual planer mast.
  6. It's been such a hectic spring so far that I haven't been out on Lake O yet. I might finally do a shakedown trip today but I don't want to wrestle with choppy, windy conditions. I will launch at Chaumont Bay this afternoon if I decide to go. If anyone can tell me what the sea conditions are on and near Chaumont Bay I would greatly appreciate it. I'll also check the hardware store web site. If you hit the water today be safe and good fishing! Thanks in advance.
  7. Congrats on some great fishing! Thanks for sharing.
  8. Yes, mine is made by Happy Troller. Thanks again for all the feedback.
  9. I'm keeping the Humminbird 859 fish finder, so I lowered the price to $5,500. It also comes with a pack of 4 flares that expire November 2016 and a first aid kit.
  10. I'll take a look at the brand tomorrow, but Happy Troller sounds familiar. I'm hoping to do a more detailed shake-down of the boat this sunday.
  11. Thanks for the additional feedback. I guess the only way to know is to try it out before I make a decision. It's been on there for several years, which makes me think that if it didn't work, a previous owner might have already removed it long ago.
  12. Funny, Les, Lol! I hope to get the boat out this Sunday and do a test run with the riggers. In the Army (I'm retired now), we don't call them safety lines, we call them "dummy cords" G-Daddy, I will look into those vinyl liners if needed. They might help preserve my "image" a little better than dummy cords , thanks for the suggestion.
  13. Thanks for the new replies! Those back pressure issues are what I keep hearing about. I prefer bags(1st choice) or buckets, so I will probably remove the trolling plate. It has the lanyard to raise and lower the plate, but with my 2 year old motor, I don't know if any work was done on the out drive when they replaced the motor. I'd rather play it safe and stay away from the what-ifs and unknowns.
  14. Thanks for the info Les. These are (possibly) factory installed rod holders on my 1987 Bayliner Trophy 2160. They are in good condition and appear to be stainless. The gimble mounts are made by Penn, so they are good quality as well. They aren't sloppy loose, but wiggle without the rigger on them. I haven't used them out on the water yet, but I was trying to figure out how much wiggle is normal and how much should be considered excessive.
  15. I got a great deal on 2 manual Penn downriggers with swivel bases on gimble mounts. I've never used gimble mounts before and I am surprised at how loose they fit inside the rod holders. Is that normal or should they fit tighter and not wobble? I'm guessing they won't wobble with the rigger weight in the water under trolling conditions, but that's just a guess. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!
  16. Just though I would pass this along. It might have more to do with near-shore fishing, but strong currents will most likely have an impact on down speed off shore too. Be safe and good fishing! 17. I just bought a 1987 Bayliner 2160. It has the original manuals for the 5.0L OMC Cobra motor but not a boat owners manual. I emailed Bayliner customer service on Saturday (not during business hours) and they emailed me a PDF copy of the owners manual for my boat first thing Monday morning. I emailed back to them to say thanks and they took the time to reply to second email as well. They were very professional, courteous and fast with their response time, so I wanted to spread the word that they still value customers who buy their old discontinued models. Very impressive compared to other companies that I have dealt with over the years.
  18. Thanks for the replies. Since the boat came with the plate, it gives me another option to use. I'll try it out, but I use buckets in my other boat, so I'll have them as another option as well.
  19. I've never used one before, but now I have Bayliner Trophy 2160 that came with a trolling plate installed. The boat has a 5.0L I/O stern drive. Just wondering if it causes any issues with the motor or outdrive. Could it cause any other performance problems? How well do they really work? Just looking for pros and cons from anyone with personal experience with trolling plates. Thanks in advance!
  20. I'm just east of Watertown (13619). I got a PM from another member right after I posted this, so you are 2nd in line. I'll let you know if the other member doesn't want it.
