  1. Sweeet video Paul I cant wait. I noticed in the video that you had some Okuma "Clarion" reels and was wondering how you liked them. Looking at replacing some reels this spring. We have a few Catalinas now that we really like, but they mustve been discontinued. Cant seem to find to many 30D's. John Hans Happy Daze (Lagerhead)
  2. Payment sent for John Hans. Forgot to put size XXL. Can't wait until we have weather nice enough to wear on the water! Thanks again.
  3. I did alot of research this fall on kicker brackets and mounting devices due to our unique transom. after a lot of stumbling around, I found a bunch of usefull info and pictures on the Sea Swirl Stripers owners Club site. A guy on great lakes angler turned me on to it. We were able to custom make a new one out of stainless that I know will be very stout. seeing other peoples ideas and boats really helped the process. 4. We recently got a new boat this past summer and were looking to put a kicker motor on. The only problem is that the style of our boat does not leave a lot of options open for the most popular type of mounts. I have looked at many models on the net but I'm still not satisfied with what Ive found. Recently talked to Garelick and they told me personally that they dont suggest trailering any boat with that type of adjustable mount. Have also looked at mounts that bolt to the top of our swim deck. The motor we are using is a 10 hp honda. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Here are a couple pics. Thanks in advance, John Hans
  5. Thanks Ray, I'll check that out. Was yours a shakespere brand?
  6. Recently got a new boat that has one of these seperators installed on the vhf antenna. The Fm fadio works fine but the vhf radio doesnt seem to transmit. We can hear people talking, but when we ask for a radio check theres no response. Didnt know if the seprerators go bad or what, never heard of a antenna going bad. We just installed a new vhf radio so I'm pretty sure its not the radio. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with these devices or how well they work
  7. Greg, I sent you an email. Please check it
  8. Got on the water Fri afternoon around 3 pm and it didnt take long to hook up on a hawg wild diver. Turned out the first fish would have been the big fish of the trip if it hadnt got off about 20ft behind the boat, It was my brothers first king he had ever had on, pretty bummed I would guess it was probably around 20lb. Action was steady all evening between wilson and the red barn in around 170ft. Ended up going 10 for 15 with big fish being 18lbs. Seemed like everything worked if you were over the fish. Sat morning went right back to the same spot and started getting fish, action was real steady until the east wind that was already blowing kicked up a bit, could only get them to take it going with the waves. Around 9am it really seemed to shut down, ended up being 8 for 9 and big fish was 14lbs, that fish was actually the best fighter of the trip. Went back out Sat evening when the wind died down but went between the power plant and the microwave tower in 160ft of water, went 4 for 4 with big fish being 17lbs and headed in to watch the end of the penguins game. Sun morning went back to the power plant and ran into shaker city and only pulled two decent fish, ended up going 7 for 10 but did have one good rip. Ended the weekend going 29 for 38 fishing was great, Overall riggers and divers with spoons and flies were pretty even but I think some of the bigger fish came off flies on the riggers. I know my brother now understands what all the hype is about, hopefully we can get back up sometime in Aug to see if we can get a big boy. GREAT WEEKEND! John H.
  9. Defiance1, We have had good luck with the Trollmaster servo throttle controller. Allows you to adjust and hold within a couple of tenths of mph. We've had ours for about four years. Ithink there are several styles to chose from now and can be purchased through any major distributor,ie Cabelas, bass pro. John
  10. Thanks Nick, I was actually wondering which one to get. Now I know
  11. Definitely gonna have to pick up one of those books, sounds like theres alot of good info in them for all great lakes fish. Thanks for the reply. John
  12. Great tip Nick, can't beat the savings there. Really appreciate the weight to depth ratios, was wondering if there was some sort of chart for that with deeper depths or have you learned the ones listed by trial and error. John H. Lagerhead
  13. Just wondering what color and #test Ande line you guys like to use? Pink green Clear Will be running on downriggers; Used 30lb Berkley Big Game last year thought it might be alittle overkill. I've only heard good things about Ande. Any comments are appreciated. John H. Lagerhead
  14. Hey Nick, Yes I do like Lager beers, but my younger brother who rarely goes fishing with us actually named the boat after his favorite bar in college; Lagerheads in California Pa. LOL
  15. Just wanted to finally introduce myself on this site. Been learning and enjoying all of the great info shared here. I've never visited a site that people and charter captains are so willing to share so much. My Dad and I are primarily walleye fisherman that fish out of Conneaut, Oh and are from Conneaut Lake Pa. Took a spring 08 charter on Thrillseeker with Capt Vince, Was hooked ever since. Made four trips to Olcott last spring and summer, once with the boat StormWarningII(friends). Big fish of the trips was a 23#er (cant wait until May). We fish out of a 19 1/2' Slyvan Excursion Named Lagerhead. Also my login name.
