  1. Are you kidding me Andy............I had boys........how would I know what a hair zingy is! I had a ball watching Joey catch fish.........Vic won't be able to land a fish for years, that kid is quick when a rod fires off!! John I'm going to try the floro leader with a slide diver to see how that works!
  2. Hair zingie????????????????
  3. Green green green seems to work best for me this year that with some silver or white on spoons. Wire performs better than the riggers for lake trout. I switched to e-chips this year because I can run them at faster speeds. The riggers have spoons on them so I can run cheaters looking for silver fish occaionally like yesterday wire produced silver fish I set the wire at 240 & 210. I'm new to lead this year so I would pick Mower's brain on them. Like Chowder stated keep your rigeers betwen 60 & 40 feet they'll pick up lakers especially early in the AM. The bite for me on the last few trips to Cayuga picked up late in the AM so being there at daybreak isn't critical. I'm only been at this a few years so that's where this website is so valuable because these guys are more than willing to pitch in and help a newbie out.
  4. Looking for some thoughts on 7 strand vs the new 19 strand wire. I frequently cut 20' off every few weeks to get rid of the curls however I still lost several rigs this year, it's tough to see your dipsey, e-chip, & fly donated the the depths so I think it's time to change the wire. Is the 19 strand more durable? Does anyone else have trouble with breakage or it just me? Ken
  5. I'm in this year. I now have time I'm on welfare (retired). I'll be fishing with the infamous SLIDERBITE ! You all realize bringing Vic along gives us a HUGE advantage. I'm not worried about you two, but if Vic brings along Eskimo Joe I think you guys will have to compete in the Pro division! -Andy Chowder warned you guys!
  6. Had the pleasure of fishing with Vic Leone (Sliderbite) and his son Joey (Eskimo Joe) in the LOU Tournament. Fished in deep water south of AES we boated several lakers in the 7 to 11 lb class, one brown, and finally located LLs in 250' of water at 60', unfortunately it was about 11:30 and the weigh in was at 1 PM. Joey landed all of the fish other than the brown without help from either myself or his dad. Considering he is only 8 years old and bringing in 240" of wire is quite an accomplishment. The attached pictures say it all, so Joey has the trophy and he's not giving it up without a tussel next year. Thanks to all who set this up and it was a pleasure to meet you guys!
  7. Just got back from Oneida, didn't fish seriously because of the heat. I'll be on Cayuga this weekend!
  8. Fished out of Long Point. There was a good spoon bite early in 200 FOW. We ran spoons at 40' and landed several lakers in thr 7 lb class. Things died out for us until 10:30 then a short burst produced several lakers in the 7 to 10 lb class. I took my 8 year old grandaughter and attached are pictures of what an 8 year old looks like Lake Trout!
  9. Mike...........................I'll be there on Sunday....................I'm not telling you how fast you're going!
  10. I'm in the learning mode and not only does the current change as does the temp. I chose 50 degrees and I had to keep adjusting my weights to find this particular temperature. What temp do you guys usually look for? I usually palce my riggers at different depths to cover more water now I'm rethinking that.
  11. Just north of Union Springs are what is called the twin buoys. This marks the channel that was dredged until the sixties for the salt barges. The flats around them are app 12' with great weed beds. Also at the channel edges it raise 4 or 5 feet creating some structure. The channel goes to the railroad structure in the village of Cayuga. This should give you a start, keep in mind this part of the lake is weedy so it holds plenty of bass, tons of pickeral, and some northerns.
  12. I was surprised how it varied! There was times it was right on to occasionally 6 MPH difference, I think alot had to do with what direction I was going. I need to play with it more. I calibrated the unit with my GPS near the surface. RR..was I correct in doing that? The fish hawk has a wheel for the surface but it varies from my GPS I think this has to do with the flow under the boat! BTW....I have a toy that you don't have. Tag your it!
  13. Thanks all....Big Dave the head shakes did my tackle in!
  14. I lost 2 ECHIPS due to breakage between the flasher & dipsey. I'm checking with Stinger on which fireline he's using. I need to change or go broke !!E The larger salmon came off echips down 70' I removed the cheaters to keep the smaller ones off. I didn't keep any fish didn't want to screw up a perfect day by cleaning fish, acxtually we don't eat many.
  15. Great day to be fishing! Worked just south of Long Point, the action was steady all morning. The best action that I had was in 200' to 325' just south of the point. The spoon bite was on until 10:00 then echips and flys took over. For me there wasn't one particuliar color than worked better than others. I was alone so counting and measuring was difficult but I boated well over 25 fish and many wannabe legal LLs, several browns and lakers, one LL about 4 lbs had the biggest lamphrey that I ever saw about 14". He's now into two parts. Traded notes all morning with 58 Johnson & Reel Hard, both seem to know their stuff. Great guys to be around. Just installed a Fish Hawk X4. I've heard stories about the upper currents differing from the underwater currents and now I know why. At 70' the temp was 50 degrees and I'm convinced knowing the speed at that depth does make a difference so at this time I can say there is value in having a probe. Anyway guys I enjoyed your company.
  16. John I'll be in the Long Point area today!
  17. Fleas???? The little bastards are just starting!
  18. We didn't do much better. We boated several LLs in front of the plant & 2 6lb lakers but the weed rafts chased us out.....too bad I think if we stayed there longer we would done OK but I hate combat fishing with weeds. We boated another big laker in the middle then moved to crowbar and found more small LLs. We didn't find much bait. Good to meet you guys I hope to get back out this weekend I'll probably go back to the Long Point area, we found some quality silver fish in deep water there Saturday unfortunately it was late in the AM.
  19. also looking to get in....I need a partner?
