Fished out of T-Falls with Lil Jake (Mark) & Red Eyes (Jeff). Let me start by saying nothing here is exaggerated or fabricated. The morning started with Jeff complaining of a sore back and he just wanted to go for the ride, however after the first release he could have competed in the 100 high hurdles...........a miraculous recovery I must say! The action on the surface was minimal which surprised us because the last trip we boated 40 or so fish on the surface. After we went deep with flys & dodgers with wire & riggers we boated several LLs in the 5 to 8 lb class. 60 to 100 ' produced the quality fish. The final count was 12 LLs, 3 lakers, and 1 brown not huge numbers but quality fish. I only landed one simply because those other guys are quicker, the next out I plan to tie their shoe laces together. The largest LL was 26" which I would guess he was about 8 lbs. Seriously, guys if you can get on the water between cold snaps Cayuga has some fine fishing this winter, be prepared to fish deep or on the surface there doesn't seem to be a consistent method. The lake was flat today that might explain why they were so deep. The bite turned off by 9:30 so plan on getting a early start. The launch is clear all the was to the lake but there is shore ice in the lagoon so turning to get out can be tricky. Ken PS: Any rebuttals are are totally false!!!

I also have the same trouble. I use otter boards which do not pull hard so not only it does not release it's difficult to tell if you're dragging a fish unless it's large.

I'll be up that way Thursday checking out the launch, if it's doable I'll be out this weekend........depending on wind & temp!

Any of you guys getting? Looks like I'm out of business for a bit. I shoot for the upper 20s with a east or west wind. Even though T-Falls has the bubbler as the ice sets in on the edges it tough to turn around and the shore ice is tough on the transducers. It has all the making of a tremendous winter season on Cayuga. The last time Lil Jake and I were out we put back close to 20 keeper size LLs. We would have had a mixed bag of Browns but my 1st mate had trouble reading a measuring stick.

Remember THOU SHALL NEVER AGAIN GET COLD, WET, OR HUNGRY AGAIN WHILE FISHING!!!!!

BTW Andy.......Jeff is going to install a new Garmin unit on my old rig so I'm curious to see how it works out. I'll let him do the field testing. I'm pleased withe the Raymarine X5 however it takes away the smoothness/luxury of hydraulic steering sooooooo who knows a X5 less than a year old might be for sale in the spring. What the hell it never stops!

Because of issues with the drive motors all new shipments are going out on warranty replacements. I sent mine back in early October and I was told I'll be one of the first ones replaced in early January.

Guys, Have the fleas eased up????

Had a steady day on Cayuga nothing spectacular. We kept 3 LLs in the 21" class released several and boated two Lakers in the 7 lb class. We stayed with a spoon program hoping to do something with browns or bows without success. Didn't find much north of T-Falls or around AES. Most of the action came around the point of T-falls several were caught on sliders with the balls at 70'. The down temp was all over the place, we would have 52 degrees at 65' then it would jump to 58. This is my first year with a probe. Is the usual in the fall or is it because of windy days. I suggest working south of T-Falls that where we marked the most fish & bait. Ken

I bought a few and have used them. I like the concept but I don't believe I'm getting the same depth on wire as the Luhr Jenson. I'm checking to see if there are rings like Luhr Jenson. On Cayuga I like to get into the 60' range.

Keep in mind if you have questions on toys or gimmicks Chowder is the man to get it from. He spends 1/2 his time jury rigging whatever it takes to catch fish or more accurately catch other fisherman. Rumor has it that he has a farm, I don't see how that's possible!

Vague question. What depth do you think you guys are getting with slide divers on wire and how much line are you letting out. Sunday was the first time that we got skunked on wire. Maybe it was a iffy day or is it possible that the slide divers don't get as deep as normal dipseys. Ken

The pattern are from the grates in the bottom of the cooler. Didn't mean to sound like it was a bad day. We boated only 7 fish and we were lucky to get 2 nice bows. We covered alot of water for 7 fish!

Tough day on Cayuga. Launched from Long Point and worked north from Sheldrake to the north side of Aurora. Did boat some bows in the 4 to 5 lb class, 2 lakers, & a few LLs. The fish that were willing to hit were in 150 FOW between 40 & 50'. Only one small lakers hit a wire rig which I thought was unusal. The fish & bait were scattered without any major concentrations. The few folks that we talked to reported about the same!

Check out the track systems, the track lenghts vary and there are solutions out there for all types of set-ups. A picture where you want to mount the holders will enable members to give you some guidance. I use Berts and love them. They move as you take the rods out and are strong. Note the rod holder in the center and there are different sized tracks

It was a fun day for me just watching Joey! He is quick to the rod, his dad won't be landing many fish for a while! Good to meet you too. I didn't expect much ftom the tournament other than to meet some great people and have some fun. Along with that I can say we were very lucky, there were much better fishermen there than I!

I only use wire with dipseys it out performs riggers especially in the summer. I set my line counters at 210 & 240 then adjust accordingly until I start catching fish. I'm like most on Cayuga I have boxes of flys & dodgers however a handfull is only necessary. I use e-chips because I'm able to troll faster. For flys greens and white flys are my choices and the same with the e-chips. http://lakemichiganangler.com/ is a great website to learn how to make them plus order material.

I phoned the company and unfortunately 500' is the largest spool that they make. Have you ever tied wire to wire? If so what type of knot is used?

Thanks Wayne, I'm strictly on the Fingerlakes I'll probably leave some of the old wire on for backing. Will let you know how it performs!
