When I was about 17, I lost a huge trout on opening day at Naples. That was 38 years ago. It was right near a concession stand and I had a crowd of about 50 people watching me. Some guy panicked and started jamming his net in the water. He ended up knocking the fish off. Everybody turned around and went back to their business. I was sick and I wanted to throw up and punch this guy in the mouth at the same time. To this day, there are only a few select people who I will allow to net my fish. I know that fish would have placed in the local Naples Derby that day.
And the pain eases a little bit but the memory of that big one never goes away.
