  1. Go to GLOUTDOORS.com and go to videos section. Buy the video on running copper wire and leadcore lines. It will explain everything you'll need to get started. Bob
  2. In early spring, I leave them naked. But once they move out deeper I fish my two rigger boat with one naked and one with a flasher to help attract salmon as well as browns. Bob
  3. I agree with the guys about amish outfitters and their trolling bags. Have had mine for four years and they look brand new. I'm a rec fisherman and I probably bought too much bag for my boat but I probably won't have to buy one for at least 10 years. Bob
  4. Fished 5/3-5/11 out of Sandy Pond south as far as the Salmon River and north as far as Montario State Park. When the weather cooperated the fishing was excellent, when it was bright, sunny and beautiful boating weather the fishing completely shut down. Caught fish on silver rapalas, gold rapalas, gold smithwicks, orange reef runners, alewife colored spoons and Billy V's SS habanero spoons. Nice week to be on the water and not be at work. We also tried walleye fishing for the first time and landed a few in Sandy Pond when the lake got rough one day. Nothing huge but they made one hell of a fish fry the next day for lunch. Bob
  5. Ray: You should write for Field & Stream's back page humor section. No one tells a better story. Thanks for letting us in on your adventures. Look forward to hearing about the rest of your year. Bob
  6. Ray/Everyone else interested in Stripers: The striper run is way behind this year compared to years past. One way to follow how the action is doing is to look up the NJ Star Ledger reports by Al Ristori. He's been covering the ocean fishing in NJ for 50 years. When he says that the stripers are in Atlantic Highlands hot and heavy then they will certainly be in the Hudson. Good luck to you guys! Bob
  7. This may help to keep you from driving all that way just to look at the water. http://www.crh.noaa.gov/product.php?sit ... ssuedby=LO Hope this helps and good luck. About five years ago I was in your shoes. Each year I add a couple new things to the boat and have immensely enjoyed the experience of learning the techniques of catching big water trout and salmon. Keep at it and don't get discouraged. You WILL make mistakes. Keep reading this site. Some great guys and they all have something to teach you. Bob
  8. I fish 12lb with 8lb leaders but I don't see you having a problem with 10 and 8. Most fish are in the 4lb or so range with the occasional jumbo.
  9. Try Smithwicks, rapalas and small spoons off the boards. As the water warms, worm harnesses will work too. Good luck. Bob
  10. I bought two cabela's gold linecounters two years ago and love them. Solid metal construction and real nice drag systems. Can't beat the combo price either. They go on sale once or twice a year. Bob
  11. It's a good time of year to fish for walleyes in that area and head north. Fish from 7 to midnight in 12-18 feet of water. Also, if it gets too rough you can also duck into Sandy Pond to find walleyes. Fish the weed beds along the sand dunes and along the sunken island in front of the Wigwam restaraunt. It's marked with bouys. Bob
  12. Good luck to everyone in the derby! I'll be fishing out of Sandy Pond/Mexico Bay area. I'll be monitoring 68 if anyone wants to give a shout out to "The M". Bob
  13. Can you tell us where it will be held? Thanks. Bob
  14. Go to this link for updates of the Salmon River. www.lakeontariooutdoors.com
  15. When not fishing Lake Ontario, I fish with my two nephews in NJ for trout, bass, catfish, ice fishing. Pretty much anything in season. I also have coached wrestling for 4yr old to eighth grader for more than 10 years. Bow hunting and gun hunting in the fall/winter, too.
  16. If you want steelhead at this time of year, I'd definitely head to the Salmon River. Try using plugs and egg sacks. If you want a website to check out what there doing right now on the river try www.lakeontariooutdoors.com Excellent site with pictures of what they catch in each report. Good luck and enjoy your break! Bob
  17. I'm no expert but I seem to catch many more fish using bait gels or sauce, even when using flies, spoons or stickbaits. I personally like the ones from Pro-Cure.
  18. Name: Bob Pugh Boat name: The M Boat name origin: Previous owner named it The Dottie Marie but all the letters have fallen off excepth The M. Bad luck to change it! Boat Make: 21' Bayliner Trophy Home Port: Sandy Pond Years on LO: 6 with boat but been fishing the lake with charters for 20
  19. Let's say I have a #1 dipsey rod, a full color lead core and a 600' copper rod to run on each side of the boat off of a planer board, what would the order be to run them to minimize tangles? Outside to inside. Thanks for the help. Bob
